We develop an analytical model to evaluate registration update cost, network throughput and average packet transmission delay inside and outside the hierarchical domain for the proposed structure. Numerical results show that our proposed mobility management mechanism can significantly reduce average packet transmission delay with slight higher overhead in handoff sensitive environment. We compare our result with other mobile IP based protocol like MIPv4, MIPv6 and H-MPLS for performance evaluation.","PeriodicalId":105735,"journal":{"name":"2008 Fourth Advanced International Conference on Telecommunications","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-06-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126103042","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This architecture is characterized by a stack of protocol layers where each protocol undertakes specific tasks by using the services made available by the layers below it, and providing new services to upper layers. However, by retaining the strictly modular architecture, where each layer keeps its independence and communicates solely with its adjacent layers, the implementation of the protocol stack may have a negative impact on the system performance. Recently, the cross-layer design has been introduced. This paper presents the reference architecture of a commercial 3G radio network controller (RNC) simulator based on cross-layer design done by actively exploiting the dependence between protocol layers to obtain performance gains.","PeriodicalId":105735,"journal":{"name":"2008 Fourth Advanced International Conference on Telecommunications","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-06-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125241272","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, an asymptotic approximation of the probability density function (p.d.f.) of the normalized nonlinear phase noise is derived by taking the inverse Laplace transform of its moment generating function and using the method of steepest descent. For comparison, the inverse Laplace transform of the moment generating function is also numerically evaluated using numerical quadrature. Comparison of the analytical and numerical results, for specific examples, indicates that the method of steepest descent is more accurate and, therefore, is preferable for semi-analytical calculations of the error probability.","PeriodicalId":105735,"journal":{"name":"2008 Fourth Advanced International Conference on Telecommunications","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-06-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117067253","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The service creation scheme is changing to realize these trends. This paper describes the end-user driven service creation method for converged service over telecom and Internet domain. The proposed SCE fulfills the general SCE requirements and also comes up with the network trend to user-centricity and the network evolution towards convergence. The advantage of our approach comes from web based service creation and execution environment to satisfy end-user's requirements and encourage user's participation. Using our SCE, end- users can create their own service applications and use them anytime and anywhere through their personal devices.","PeriodicalId":105735,"journal":{"name":"2008 Fourth Advanced International Conference on Telecommunications","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-06-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124022962","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the case of non-elastic traffic streams, the admission control is typically based on a formula derived by assuming that the traffic aggregate may be approximated by a Gaussian distribution and considering the loss probability, i.e. the buffer overflow probability, as the QoS parameter. In this paper we consider an alternative QoS parameter that is the bit loss probability that is the long term proportion of lost bits, which is more related to the current measurements (e.g. throughput or packet loss rate) than the loss probability. Therefore, we derive an appropriate computational formula for the effective bandwidth which, as numerical results show, is more accurate and, consequently, assures a more efficient admission control mechanism.","PeriodicalId":105735,"journal":{"name":"2008 Fourth Advanced International Conference on Telecommunications","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-06-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132260965","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

When introducing HSDPA in 3G networks the end user experience and system capacity with voice over IP applications improve considerably. When later on adding also high-speed packet uplink access (HSUPA), the system capacity and end user experience will improve even further. This paper analyzes with measurements the VoIP quality over current Release 5 HSDPA networks. The results show that even though the introduction of HSDPA significantly reduces the user-to-user voice delay, the performance is satisfactory only for selected devices, the overall end user experience is still significantly worse than with circuit switched solutions and not acceptable. The current limitations with VoIP in HSDPA networks with a too large delay can be improved by using the RLC UNACK mode, potentially decreasing the jitter buffer size and reducing the terminal processing delay. In the longer term, HSUPA and several features in 3GPP Release 7 standards will bring further performance improvements in both user plane latency and system capacity.","PeriodicalId":105735,"journal":{"name":"2008 Fourth Advanced International Conference on Telecommunications","volume":"523 2","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-06-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120976164","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This simple cellular model was adopted and extended by researchers in order to incorporate flat fading and path loss. However, the majority of these extensions preserved a fundamental assumption of Wyner's model, namely the collocation of User Terminals (UTs). In this paper, we alleviate this assumption and we evaluate the effect of user distribution on the sum-rate capacity. In this context, we show that the effect of user distribution is only considerable in low cell-density systems and we argue that \"collocated\" models can be utilized to approximate the \"distributed\" ones in the high cell-density regime. Subsequently, we provide closed forms for the calculation of the interference factors of \"collocated\" models given the system parameters. In addition, the asymptotics of the per-cell sum-rate capacity are investigated. Finally, the presented results are interpreted in the context of practical cellular systems using appropriate figures of merit.","PeriodicalId":105735,"journal":{"name":"2008 Fourth Advanced International Conference on Telecommunications","volume":"111 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-06-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121326165","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
