We have developed some Web application components using Java technology and configured a classroom with wireless network access and a Web camera for our purposes. In this classroom the students interact between them and with the professor through an Internet enabled PDA, using the different modules described in this paper. We include our evaluations about the performance and usability of the system in a computer science related course of the University of Tokushima, other practical uses and the future research and development work.","PeriodicalId":104410,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Workshop on Wireless and Mobile Technologies in Education (WMTE'05)","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-11-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128998638","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is designed to make it simple to annotate content with multimedia such as images and audio recorded on these devices. This paper presents a prototype system that uses wireless markup languages and Java MIDlets. User evaluations have been conducted, and are being continued in our iterative design approach. We report the results from questionnaire evaluations, observational studies and interviews.","PeriodicalId":104410,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Workshop on Wireless and Mobile Technologies in Education (WMTE'05)","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-11-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132419848","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We took into consideration the affective aspects of this guidance in order to model and implement a personal affective-and context-aware electronic guide. As the emotional states experienced by the visitors are very different and diverse, we propose considering engagement as an indirect measure of the emotion intensity felt by the visitor. We examine three levels of engagement: unengaged (detached), engage-able, and engaged. The next step is to respond to the different categories of engagement in order to scaffold the visitor to the highest level of engagement that is, for a beginner, the engagement with the artistic part using appropriate recommendation, because our aim is to help the visitors to learn more about the painting and art in a mobile manner.","PeriodicalId":104410,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Workshop on Wireless and Mobile Technologies in Education (WMTE'05)","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-11-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131908164","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Further conversations are often triggered by asking questions in conferences. How to use the mobile devices computing power to increase the amount, raising the quality of interactions, and facilitating presenters in collecting audiences' questions in conferences are important. In this paper, a system named ''Ask the Author\" which is applied in helping audiences ask questions prior conference, during the conference and post conference. An experiment of the system had been studied at the Computer Supported Collaborative Learning (CSCL) 2005 conference held this year and some useful and elaborative observations were discussed.","PeriodicalId":104410,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Workshop on Wireless and Mobile Technologies in Education (WMTE'05)","volume":"348 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-11-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123217501","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Dillenbourg","doi":"10.1109/WMTE.2005.2","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/WMTE.2005.2","url":null,"abstract":"There is an ever growing number of mobile learning applications based on location-awareness, However, there is still a lack of information concerning how it might impact socio-cognitive processes involved in collaboration. This is what the following empirical study aimed to address. We used a mobile and collaborative game, running on tablet PCs, to test two conditions. In one experimental condition, groups could see the positions of each member; while in the other location-awareness was not provided. All users could use the tablet PC to communicate through annotations. We found no differences between the two conditions with regard to the task performance. Neither were there any differences in terms of cognitive workload. However, players without the location-awareness indications had a better representation of their partners' paths. They wrote more messages and better explicated their strategies. The paper concludes with remarks about how this can be taken into account by mobile learning practitioners.","PeriodicalId":104410,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Workshop on Wireless and Mobile Technologies in Education (WMTE'05)","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-11-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121632159","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In our work, we rather focus on the need to look at the communities where the learning takes place and is contextualised. This opens for a complementary usage of mobile technologies to promote anytime anywhere access to other people and the contextualisation of learning resources. In this paper, we present some initial scenarios illustrating different forms of mobility. We then identify key dimensions to understand mobility of learners across multiple communities and draw some initial implications for design of mobile technologies.","PeriodicalId":104410,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Workshop on Wireless and Mobile Technologies in Education (WMTE'05)","volume":"69 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-11-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121934240","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, new challenges arise for the development of ubiquitous computing learning applications capable to provide appropriate content and services according to the individual needs of each learner. In this paper, we describe the implementation of a centralized system with a multi-model based approach to support the personalization of such applications. These models contain information about the application, the user's characteristics, the usage behavior and the situational environment.","PeriodicalId":104410,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Workshop on Wireless and Mobile Technologies in Education (WMTE'05)","volume":"172 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-11-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122104829","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Our conclusion is that while e-learning has only just been accepted by educators and is increasingly being put into extensive and effective use for learning, m-learning, especially its main delivery system, mobile phone learning, will have a long way to go to before it can or will be effectively, extensively used or accepted for learning purposes, by either educators or the general public, unless the problems raised in this article are solved.","PeriodicalId":104410,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Workshop on Wireless and Mobile Technologies in Education (WMTE'05)","volume":"99 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-11-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132156232","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
