Consequently, not all people are able to perform the hajj. Furthermore, hajj is a very long process of worship and, therefore, has given birth to numerous traditions from the departure until the arrival from the holy land. In line with the phenomena of hajj, especially in the context of Gresik East Java Indonesia, this study strives to explore how the tradition of hajj is performed. By using qualitative method, this research found some important findings. First, there are various traditions conducted by people of Gresik in terms of performing hajj: pamitan haji, sejarah haji, walimatussafar, dulkadiran, nuzulan, khatmil Qur’an, and tasyakuran. These traditions are performed because they are considered important especially for those who will embark on their hajj journey. Second, from the socio-economic perspective, the performance of hajj traditions can result in social discrepancy for the lower middle-class people. The implication is that for the people of Gresik who have only been able to aff ord the cost of the hajj journey, then the cost of the hajj traditions can be a peculiar morale burden because the cost of the hajj traditions is equal to the personal cost of the hajj journey.","PeriodicalId":102671,"journal":{"name":"Analisa: Journal of Social Science and Religion","volume":"92 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114246226","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The people who live in the village share various religious backgrounds, but they live side by side in harmony. This condition is achieved as the results of the education carried out by the Kutuk people since ancient times that has passed down through generations. Then, what kind of education pattern is being developed by the community to accompany every Muslim to be a tolerant figure? This research question is answered through a qualitative research with a case study approach that uses non-measurement techniques in data collection processes, namely observation, interviews, and documentation. This study confirms that Kutuk village is a miniature of tolerant village in Kudus district. This village has a lifelong pattern of tolerance education, children with the education in their families, youth with peer education in youth organizations and adults with their educational councils. The methods that were utilized in the process of transmitting the tolerance values are education bil hal (education with good behavior and good examples), education bil maqol (education via oral tradition), and education bil du'a (education with a prayer). These findings provide some options to the community about applicable steps to empower families and communities in assisting Muslims to be tolerant. It is the evidence in the village that amaliyah of nahdliyyin such as yasinan, tahlilan, and berjanjenan have contributed signifi cantly to educate Muslim to be socially and theologically pious adherents of Islam. Unfortunately, previous studies on this topic focused more on the process of transmitting these values through formal and informal religious based educational institutions. This research took a unique position to study the Islamic values transmission within non-religious based public school. This qualitative research employed the case study approach to examine the process of instilling Islamic values in public schools. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and study of relevant documentation. The collected data were analyzed using the inductive interactive techniques of the Miles and Huberman models. This study showed that 1) the values of iman-taqwa (faith-piety) and akhlaq mulia (good morals) were an important embodiment of affection-based educational programs in schools. 2) These values were instilled by the school through a habituation process, supported by the function of the principal and teachers as role models and the important role of Rohis (Islamic organization). The inculcation of Islamic values was not only carried out by religious education teachers, but also transmitted by secular subject teachers as well as extracurricular activities. The findings of this study confirmed that public schools in Indonesia were now transformed as important instruments for the transmission of Islamic values to young Muslims. This research suggests important recommendations on the need to develop the capacity of teachers in schools to make them agents of moderation of Islamic values. This aim is reached through reconstructing a multicultural theology based on biblical understanding. The multicultural theology is a biblical principle that be constructed in balancing between Old Testament and New Testament, between general revelation and special revelation. By exposing the general revelation based on theocentric dimension, we found general principles about how to make a good relationship among people in their differences, according to God’s perspective. At the same time, multicultural theology also exposes particular revelation principles centered upon the Christocentric dimension. This research is a qualitative study with a library approach. Data is analyzed by interpretation, critical thinking, and truth and healthy consideration based on the primary source. We found a Christian value to be a foundation to make the relationship in harmony with other people. For this purpose we are proposing a theological framework designed from Biblical principles, covering the following: (1) Cultural Mandate, (2) Human Nature, (3) Theological principles: God’s Sovereignty, God’s Providence and God’s Justice, (4) Incarnation, (5) Universal Soteriology (6) Present Theocracy, (7) Church Nature and (8) Eschatological Multiculture. Christian leaders are central people that must create a relationship with other people in harmony. Through this way, the Christian leaders can engage the religious radicalism by doing good things and togetherness in social work.","PeriodicalId":102671,"journal":{"name":"Analisa: Journal of Social Science and Religion","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-07-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127716493","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A number of studies show that Indonesian religious education currently faces challenges in managing the problem of religious radicalism, especially in the context of a conservative society. This research focuses on various religious problems in the community that teachers often encounter during their interactions in schools and communities, with specific reference to Islamic education. This research was conducted using the Focus Group Discussion method which involved 28 religious education teachers from DKI Jakarta, Banten, and West Java. This research explores recurring religious issues in Indonesian society that require further attention in developing religious education programs. Looking at it from the perspective of religious literacy, this study found that multiculturalism, tolerance, and prejudice are the most recurring problems in society. Recognizing the growing challenges to Indonesia's plural society, religious literacy can be used as an alternative destination for religious education. Religious education must be directed towards students’ correct understanding of various religious beliefs and traditions, in addition to strengthening the faith and practice of students' own religious beliefs.","PeriodicalId":102671,"journal":{"name":"Analisa: Journal of Social Science and Religion","volume":"75 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-07-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133419235","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The uniqueness was emerging when Islam as a doctrine has to confront a tradition living in a community. This study discusses how the sculptors in Prumpung Magelang negotiate and compromise betwen the two of opposite entities in the comunity, that is (1) religious doctrines (sourced from authoritative texts) about the prohibition of crafting the image of living being, and (2) cultural and artistic practices of making living being as perfect objects of artistic passion. This research attempts to explore and understand the creative reasoning model of some sculptors in the area of Prumpung Magelang when they have to appreciate their artistic passion in sculpture without having to confront the meaning of authoritative texts. This trend seems to be repeated in this current Indonesian Islam. However, what is commonly unknown, Turkish organization also takes part in this current mode. Particularly, it is with the Islamic transnational organization from Turkey operating in Indonesia as the actors. This article aims at discussing the Sufi elements within three Turkish based transnational communities in Indonesian Islam and their contribution to Islamic education as part of Islamic development in the current Indonesia. This is a qualitative research to the topics within the three Turkish origin transnational Islamic organizations, namely the Jamaat Nur, the Fethullah Gülen Affiliated Movement, and the Suleymaniyah. This article will then argue that Sufism has continued to be one of the contributing factors for the development of Islam and in relation to that the Sufi elements within the three Turkish Transnational organizations also contribute to their acceptance in Indonesia. These differences have an impact on different social interventions conducted by various parties, including among pesantren in Indonesia. Using qualitative method, this study explores the perspectives and analysis of pesantren on poverty and community empowerment in two pesantrens organizing socio-economic empowerment programs for subordinate groups namely Pesantren Al-Imdad in Yogyakarta and Pesantren Maslakul Huda in Central Java. This research results in three types of analysis, i.e. conventional, semi-progressive and progressive. The conventional analysis defines poverty as community’s inability to meet their basic needs, caused by their own mistakes of not having skills and enterpreneurship so that empowerment is viewed as a tool to direct the community in accordance with the pesantren’s decisions of empowerment programs. The semi-progressive analysis defines poverty as a multidimenstional problem, caused by structural and human factors so that empowerment is viewed as a strategy to increase the capacity of community and pesantren. The progressive analysis defines poverty as multidimentional problem, caused by structural factors and community is seen as a victim of unjust system so that empowerment is viewed as pesantren's alignments to subordinate groups by organizing joint forces to fight for the rights and interests of the community.","PeriodicalId":102671,"journal":{"name":"Analisa: Journal of Social Science and Religion","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-07-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123747459","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
