Prior to this, Aceh was a tense region and home to the longest armed conflict in Southeast Asia – underway since 1982. The people of Aceh were fighting to realize the concept of self-independence. However, the movement came to a stop when the devastating tsunami hit Aceh on December 26th, 2004. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the root of Acehnese wars. The paper will provide the current political, social, economic and cultural achievements since Aceh entered into a new chapter of peace. Using qualitative approach, the theory of inequality and conflict and Fanon’s ideas, this paper offers a comprehensive perspective on learning from Aceh wars and conflicts. This study found that the motive of wars in Aceh can be divided from group motive, private motivation, failure of social contract and environment scarcity. Moreover, the research confirms that social and economic progress in Aceh has not been as successful as its political achievements. Furthermore, in terms of culture, progress has been ambiguous. This paper aims to provide a better understanding of how to maintain peace in Aceh by addressing social, political, economic and cultural issues with the goal of attaining prosperity and well-being for the people of Aceh.","PeriodicalId":102671,"journal":{"name":"Analisa: Journal of Social Science and Religion","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128122150","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It means that none of single country in the world is corruption free. This study analyzes anti-corruption policies and educational strategies enforced by Indonesian and Japanese Government. Data was collected through documentation and literature review, and to some extent, cultural behaviors of both countries were observed. This study used the theory of legal system by Lawrence M Friedman as an analysis method. The main research questions are: first, how are the Government’s policies enacted to eradicate corruption in Indonesia and Japan? Second, what educational strategies are implemented by both countries for combating corruption? Third, how Islamic perspective deals with anti-corruption practices? The research findings indicate several points: firstly, Indonesia has very complex social and cultural background if compared to Japan. Indeed Indonesia has some weaknesses such as weak of economic conditions, high levels of poverty, lack of political will, weak of cultural order, lack of honest and discipline attitudes, and lack of law enforcement. Indonesia’s anti-corruption policies enforced today is Act Number 31 of 1999, while Japan enacted several interrelated law compiled in Penal Codes (PC). Secondly, the implementation strategy for anti-corruption education in Indonesia is preventive, detective and repressive strategies. Meanwhile, Japan applies integrated strategies in social, political, economic, cultural, and education dimension. It is expected that the results of this study can contribute to the prevention and eradication of corruption in Indonesia more comprehensively, not only through legal means but education, especially higher education through internalization of moral and Islamic values of anti-corruption in all aspects of live .","PeriodicalId":102671,"journal":{"name":"Analisa: Journal of Social Science and Religion","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126773977","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To address this important issue, a series of books have been published in the English language from 1990s (and especially from 2000s). Most of these books deal with the relationship between Islam, Muslims, and democratization with a sub-region in Asia: South Asia, Southeast Asia, and Central Asia. While others deal with same issues with a focus on the future, very few deal with the relationship between Islam, Muslims, and democratization in the context of Asian cultures from the perspectives of theory and empirical country studies from all three Asian regions. In this backdrop, this essay—by making an assessment and review of the literature, produced in the last decade, on this theme—focuses on the compatibility paradigm in South and South East Asian Muslim societies at the empirical level, with a focus on Pakistan, Bangladesh, Malaysia, and Indonesia. To achieve this objective, the essay follows the analytical and comparative methodology, and evaluates these four important books: Zoya Hasan (2007); Shiping Hua (2009); Mirjam Kunkler and Alfred Stepan (2013); and John Esposito, Tamara Sonn, and John Voll (2016). A due support is taken from other related works (books and journal articles) as well in substantiating, supporting, and strengthening the argument(s) put forth in this essay.","PeriodicalId":102671,"journal":{"name":"Analisa: Journal of Social Science and Religion","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115500185","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This research is based on two research questions: how the practice of moral education in Japanese schools is and how the model for improving character education in Indonesian schools is. This is a qualitative field research with phenomenological approach, in which the data were collected in Japanese schools by using observation, indepth interview, and documentary. The data were analysed descriptively and continuously. The Japanese government gave one hour  lesson for moral education in a week.  With the moral education, Japanese younger generation is expected to be able to adapt to the social environment and have the ability to think, to make effective decisions and to act independently. In addition, they are also expected to have  ability to identify issues they face, and be able to interact with others in international relations and play an important role in international world as well. Japanese moral education has been using the interactive and communicative approach, promoting moral discovery by learners themselves, avoiding the application of indoctrination approach, and no test or  final exam,  for every course of study in moral education (zero test).  In addition the most important thing is that moral education in Japan  applied an  integrated and connected approach among  three centers of education: school,  family, and  community .  All of three educational environments have very important role  as laboratory of  moral or character education.","PeriodicalId":102671,"journal":{"name":"Analisa: Journal of Social Science and Religion","volume":"124 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133135803","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study argues that the most consistent and significant influence of successful transition among male and female youth are micro predictors compared to mezzo and macro predictors. This study found that male and female youth are treated differently during their school-to-work transition. Conservative culture has negative influences on the successful transition of female youth while a positive transition is experienced by male youth. Education is a key strategy in reducing the negative impacts of conservative culture and promoting successful school-to-work transition particularly if both male and female youth are to attain stable employment.","PeriodicalId":102671,"journal":{"name":"Analisa: Journal of Social Science and Religion","volume":"68 5","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134196372","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Oceanic versesare certain selected ayats or verses of the Qur’an that contain words of ‘ocean’ and ‘sea’ in several terms such as bahr , bahri , bahru , bihar , bahrayn , bahran , abhur , and bahiratun . These verses have been examined in classical and contemporary studies by putting together earlier exegeses with modern scientific records and field observations but not in terms of established theories, nor through socio-economic paralellistic approach. This paper focuses on the semantics and ontology of oceanic verses and paralellistic approach as they were revealed and found in 42 verses in the Qur’an. Keywords in those verses were studied to enable us to build and lead us to practical benefit in science, technology and methodology. The interpretation of Qur’anic verses pertaining to ocean phenomena offers an alternative interpretation on several relevant issues, including fire/energy within ocean; two oceans that do not mingle; the darkness of the ocean deep; the ocean boundaries; the layers of the ocean; and the abundance wealth and benefits from ocean for mankind. Indonesia is blessed with the ability to combine the Qur’an containing plenty of oceanic guidance and its geographical position as the most strategic archipelago on earth. Cascading the oceanic verses into daily da’wah and weekly Friday sermon is a necessary means to reap the ontological benefits of the blessing Qur’an and of dwelling in the largest marine continent of Indonesia.","PeriodicalId":102671,"journal":{"name":"Analisa: Journal of Social Science and Religion","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123819979","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The location which is far from the center of government and close to the territory of another country can, to some extent, threaten the border society’s nationalism. Through a qualitative approach, this study examined the role of the Islamic education subject (PAI) and the local tradition (Saprahan) in strengthening the nationalism of the border people. The results showed that at least there are three teaching materials of Islamic Education (PAI) relevant to the values of nationalism i.e., democracy, tolerance, and unity and harmony. Such materials have a strategic role in providing nationalism reinforcement for students at a senior high school level. Meanwhile, the Saprahan tradition which has been held fast by Temajuk people showed that their nationalism principles are contained therein, i.e., unity, equality, and performance. The tradition also has a social function for the inhabitants of Temajuk to meet their basic and secondary needs.","PeriodicalId":102671,"journal":{"name":"Analisa: Journal of Social Science and Religion","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131989749","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This article shows that the Balinese Hindu in Cimahi can perform flexibility of Hindu doctrine as well as Hindu ritual which mean they do not totally follow the core of its culture, that is Balinese culture. This article is stemmed from a qualitative research toward Hindu community in Cimahi of West Java province whereby they maintain their religious tradition embedded with an old temple namely AgungWiraLokaNatha temple. The researcher productivity is measured through the amount of scientific papers published. This study aimed to prove some factors affecting the research productivity. Specifically, this study aimed to empirically examine the effect of researcher characteristics, subjective well-being, knowledge sharing, and research competence on research productivity.With stratified proportional random sampling technique we obtained a sample of 100 researchers in Office of Research and Development and Training scattered in central and local units. Data were collected using questionnaires to measure research productivity, subjective well-being, knowledge sharing, and research competence. Data were analyzed descriptively and inferentiallly . We used analysis of variance (ANOVA) and path analysis which were processed with SPSS 16 and LISREL 8.80 (Student) for the inferential analysis. The results of ANOVA concluded that the productivity did not differ significantly by gender. However there were significant differences in the research productivity based on the academic qualification and the functional job of researchers. The results of path analysis concluded that subjective well-being and research competence had direct positive effect on the research productivity, knowledge sharing had direct negative impact on the research productivity but knowledge sharing had indirect positive effect through the research competence on the research productivity. Research compentence contributes the highest effect on the research productivity. From this study we recommend that the institution need to improve the research competence on quantitative research method with regard to statistical tools to collect, process, and analyze the research data.","PeriodicalId":102671,"journal":{"name":"Analisa: Journal of Social Science and Religion","volume":"473 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123386109","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This research tries to answer two main problems, they are: how are the reasoning or ideology developed by Liberal Islam Network (LIN)?; and how are LIN’s main ideas and their metamorphoses? The research applies qualitative method with hermeneutic approach. The data is collected by library research or text documentation. The data is collected on August 18 th to August 29 th 2015. The research finds that the ideas of Liberal Islam Network show significant liberal signs. From the ontology of text, in reading religious text, LIN’s assumptions are “the critics over the truth”. LIN applies humanistic approach in reading the religious texts. This is confirmed by LIN’s defense toward human’s dignity. From the aspect of theoretically analytical tools in reading religious texts, LIN applies social sciences, which are socio-historical analyses. LIN uses symbol or semiotics analyses to read the religious text. The main notions of LIN are: First, Islam changes, it is not static; second, context is the first and history is the latter. Here, in reading a religious text, LIN wants to place context (socio-history) proportionally; third, LIN intends to hold God in our ground and history. The metamorphoses of LIN’s ideas are: firstly is to oppose theocracy; secondly is to endorse democracy; thirdly is to endorse gender equality; fourthly is to contextualize religious doctrines; and fifthly is to support pluralism and freedom of thinking.","PeriodicalId":102671,"journal":{"name":"Analisa: Journal of Social Science and Religion","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126028613","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
