In order to charge the battery for EV, the safety and charging time must be contemplated. Also battery charger requires that it is a capable of the high power capacity. Therefore, three-phase AC-DC boost converter is suitable for the off-line battery charger. It can transform from the three-phase utility input to DC output without additional rectifier circuit. The power factor correction can be implemented by the phase control by the Park's transformation. With the hardware system of the charger, the battery charging algorithm is important for the development of the charger. The battery charging algorithm is required to reduce the charging time and prevent the overcharging. In this paper use the Constant voltage-Constant current charging method is adapted for safely charging battery. However, it takes a long time for fully charging the battery, so this paper presents the improved CC-CV charging method. It helps reduce the total charging time. It is described by comparison of conventional CC-CV method and verified through the experimental results.","PeriodicalId":101507,"journal":{"name":"2011 International Conference on Electrical Machines and Systems","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130624448","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This asymmetric field generates unbalanced magnetic pull (UMP), and the analysis shows that, the UMP value varies in the motor operation. Analysis shows also that, if the number of stator slot is odd, the UMP center varies in the motor operation. The paper presents an analytical model for analyzing the effects of the UMP induced by the axial-asymmetrical rotor. The numerical results of PMAC motors are also presented, and they confirm the effectiveness of the analytical UMP model presented.","PeriodicalId":101507,"journal":{"name":"2011 International Conference on Electrical Machines and Systems","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130682917","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Firstly, the mathematical model of the converter was deduced with the consideration of the harmonically grid voltage conditions. According to the expression of DC-link voltage, the control scheme based on the proposed PI+R current control strategy was designed to remove the DC-link voltage ripple. The expression of DC-link voltage is unrelated to the three-phase impedances, which means the operation performance of the converter would not be influenced by the variation of the three-phase impedances. The effectiveness is validated by the simulation results on a 1-MW GSC system.","PeriodicalId":101507,"journal":{"name":"2011 International Conference on Electrical Machines and Systems","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123483623","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As the IPS with stiff, high-order, nonlinear, strong-coupling characteristics is vulnerable to the system transients, a flywheel energy storage (FES) system is introduced, which is composed of an induction machine, a flywheel and a bi-directional converter. The FES is connected to the DC bus of IPS in parallel. The control strategy based on the field oriented space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) is proposed and a simulative model of the simplified DC IPS containing FES is established in PSCAD/EMTDC in order to test the efficiency of the FES. A short-time trip to the generator and a sudden application of load are simulated, and the static stability and transient stability are studied by applying constant-power load and fault to IPS, respectively. The study shows that the FES can switch its operating modes automatically by this strategy to adjust the DC bus voltage and to compensate the power unbalance between generators and loads. Using FES, the DC bus fluctuation can be restrained and the power quality and the stability of the IPS can be improved effectively.","PeriodicalId":101507,"journal":{"name":"2011 International Conference on Electrical Machines and Systems","volume":"23 6","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120924133","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Compared with the conventional switched reluctance machine, the fully-pitched winding machine realizes the electromechanical energy conversion by utilizing both the rising and the descending regions of the mutual inductances among the phase windings. Thus, the fully-pitched winding switched reluctance machine shows more advantageous than the conventional switched reluctance machine. This paper proposes a novel generating control strategy of a three-phase fully-pitched winding switched reluctance machine, by introducing the generating operation principle of doubly salient electromagnetic machine into fully-pitched winding switched reluctance machine. With the novel control strategy, the fully-pitched winding doubly salient generator can afford convenient voltage-adjustable control without rotor angular position sensor. It is of low cost, high reliability, favorable voltage control, and shows great competitive in the applications, such as wind power generation, wave energy generation, flywheel energy storage, etc. The simulation and test results verify the novel strategy of fully-pitched winding doubly salient generator.","PeriodicalId":101507,"journal":{"name":"2011 International Conference on Electrical Machines and Systems","volume":"115 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124164138","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
