Cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury rat model was established by middle cerebral artery occlusion. All animal models were divided into the following four groups: sham, model, TLJN, and edaravone groups. The brain infarct volume, concentration of IGF-1 in brain tissues and serum were detected at 24 h, 3 d, and 7 d after cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury. The results showed that compared to the model group, the brain infarct volume of TLJN group was significantly reduced, and the expression of IGF-1 of cerebral cortex was upregulated in TLJN group. The rat model of spleen yin deficiency syndrome was set up through combination with improper diet, overstrain, and consumption of body fluid. Then, the polymerized β-amyloid 1–40 was injected into both hippocampi of the rats. The treated group was administered with ZBPYR. Taking the control group as a standard, the changes of proteins in the hippocampus were compared between the model group of AD with spleen yin deficiency syndrome and ZBPYR-treated group by two-dimensional gel electrophoresis. The altered protein spots were analyzed by matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF-MS). Compared with the control group, 9 protein spots of the hippocampus in the model group of AD with spleen yin deficiency syndrome and 2 spots in ZBPYR-treated group were found to be changed totally. The differential protein spots were identified by MALDI-TOF-MS. The results showed that in the model group of AD with spleen yin deficiency syndrome, the level of annexin III was higher, but the levels of tubulin beta chain 15, dihydropyrimidinase-like 2, and guanine nucleotide-binding protein beta-1 subunit were lower than that of the control group. These differential proteins did not show significant changes between the ZBPYR-treated group and the control group. It is concluded that changes of several proteins in the hippocampus may involve in the pathogenesis of AD with spleen yin deficiency syndrome together. Annexin III, tubulin beta chain 15, dihydropyrimidinase-like 2, and guanine nucleotide-binding protein beta-1 subunit are possibly related to pathological changes of the hippocampus in AD with spleen yin deficiency syndrome. ZBPYR may produce its effects by regulating these proteins in the hippocampus.

","PeriodicalId":101287,"journal":{"name":"World Science and Technology","volume":"13 3","pages":"Pages 480-487"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1016/S1876-3553(12)60013-1","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79168540","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Syndrome differentiation and treatment were considered the characteristics of TCM. However, disease differentiation and treatment, which were included in the theory of “formula corresponds to the syndrome complex” by Dr Zhang Zhongjing, were neglected. In the modern technological environment, disease differentiation and treatment is the expansion and extension of syndrome differentiation and treatment. It is also an important way of promoting TCM development. Composite Denshen Pilulae (CDP) successfully passed Phase-II clinical trials of the Food and Drug Administration in the United States. One of the important reasons for this occurrence is that CDP adopted chronic myocardial ischemia of coronary heart disease as its indication, which met the international and modern practice of medicine. Clinical practice calls for enrichment of disease differentiation and treatment on the basis of further development of TCM syndrome differentiation and treatment. A favorable atmosphere needs to be created for innovative thought on this subject.

","PeriodicalId":101287,"journal":{"name":"World Science and Technology","volume":"13 2","pages":"Pages 226-231"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1016/S1876-3553(12)60008-8","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73357193","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Via a local cytochrome P450 enzyme and an endogenous active material, stress reaction between the brain and vascular or visceral smooth muscle was modulated, specially implicated depressive comorbidities. Evidence provided by publications and recent experiments of this research group showed that firstly, 40%–50% depression is comorbidity of functional gastrointestinal disorders; a frequent comordibity of functional hypothalamus amenorrhea and depression; depression increases 3- to 6-fold of nocturia than in healthy people; myocardial and cerebral ischemia induce depression. Comorbidity just mentioned especially refers to simultaneous disorders of the brain and vascular or visceral smooth muscle. Secondly, a traditional Chinese medicine formula is as effective as an anti-depressive, prokinetic and vasoactive, which highlights the therapeutic mechanism of modern anti-depressive serotonin and noradrenaline reuptake inhibitors. Absorbed bioactive compounds in hippocampus, intestine and vessel wall were detected after oral administration of the formula and forced swimming rat. Thirdly, both sides of the BSM axis are the same, suggesting the common pathophysiological mechanism. Among the four axes, only “brain”, one side of the axis, is the same and the other sides are different. Fourthly, the pivotal role is that one of the important pathogenetic mechanisms involved in liver visceral manifestation of TCM theory and stress disease is the disorder of the BSM axis. The validation and improvement of the BSM axis hypothesis contribute much to the study of depression, stress diseases and liver visceral manifestation in TCM.

","PeriodicalId":101287,"journal":{"name":"World Science and Technology","volume":"13 2","pages":"Pages 221-225"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1016/S1876-3553(12)60009-X","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89149592","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
