The efficiency of behavioral-cognitive therapies (BCT) was demonstrated in several problems in childhood, especially for anxious disorders (e.g. Rapee et al., 2000), obsessive-compulsive disorder (e.g. March and Mulle, 1998), mood disorders (e.g. David-Ferdon and Kaslow, 2008), and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (e.g. Barkley, 2006). However, communications and scientific articles are lesser than concerning the BCT for adults. This thematic issue aims to highlight the French-speaking expertise and evidence-based practice in BCT and psychoeducation concerning mental health problems affecting the child, the teenager, and his/her family. Scientific articles from various Francophonie countries cover a wide scope of issues including symptom reduction and quality of life related to varied themes such as anxious disorders, ADHD, autism and Tourette syndrome. Besides, this editorial will discuss clinical issues related to adaptation of techniques and protocols of intervention that need to be done. Finally, future prospects are underlined. (1993). La version originale de cette échelle a montré son utilité pour identifier les parents dont les stratégies de discipline sont contreproductives et notamment pour quantifier les effets de certaines interventions comportementales. Nous avons testé les différentes structures factorielles proposées dans la littérature avec des analyses factorielles confirmatoires, sur un échantillon de 801 parents d’enfants d’âge scolaire (4 à 13 ans). Les résultats indiquent que le modèle à deux facteurs proposé par Irvine et al. (1999) est le meilleur pour notre échantillon. La structure est invariante selon le sexe du parent et de l’enfant, tout comme selon l’âge de l’enfant. Les indices de consistance interne des deux facteurs <em>laxisme</em> et <em>réactivité excessive</em> sont satisfaisants. Nous avons pu proposer des valeurs de référence pour les mères et les pères, ainsi qu’en fonction de l’âge des enfants, qui seront utiles au clinicien pour évaluer les pratiques de parents consultants. Des liens entre les facteurs et les difficultés de l’enfant évaluées avec le Questionnaire Points forts–Points faibles (SDQ) ont aussi été mis en évidence, les corrélations les plus élevées étant celles impliquant la <em>réactivité excessive</em>.</p></div><div><p>Several decades of research have emphasized the importance of parenting in the development of behavioral problems in children. Prevention and intervention for these difficulties require the assessment of parental practices with reliable measures. This study investigated the psychometric properties of the French version of the Parenting Scale (PS; Arnold et al., 1993). The original version of this scale has shown its usefulness by allowing the identification of the parents whose strategies of discipline are counterproductive, and by quantifying the effects of certain parenting programs. The study included 464 mothers and 347 fathers of elementary school-aged children (between the age of 4 and 13) from Switzerland and Belgium. Parents completed the PS and a measure of child behavior, the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ; Goodman, 1997). Eight different factorial structures were identified in the literature and tested with Confirmatory Factor Analyses (CFA). The results indicate that the two-factor model — <em>laxness</em> and <em>over-reactivity</em> — proposed by Irvine et al. (1999) best fitted the data. Indeed, it led to the lowest values of RMSEA and SRMR (1999). Furthermore the TLI and CFI indices were greater than .90, supporting a satisfactory fit of the data. Results from multi-group CFA analyses indicated that this factor structure did not vary across child sex and age, or parental sex. Selon <em>the Expert Consensus Guidelines</em>, la thérapie cognitive-comportementale (TCC) combinée à la prise de médicaments est considérée comme le traitement le plus efficace (March, Frances & Carpenter, 1997). Toutefois, selon <em>the Pediatric OCD Treatment Study</em> (2004), 47 % des enfants ayant un TOC sont réfractaires à la TCC combinée à la prise de médicaments après 14 semaines de suivi. Fontaine, Berthiaume et O’Connor (2018), ont mis sur pied un manuel de traitement inspiré du modèle adulte de la thérapie basée sur les inférences (TBI). La TBI cible les composantes imaginaires des obsessions et des compulsions dans le récit de l’enfant et identifie le doute obsessionnel pour diminuer les symptômes du TOC plutôt que d’utiliser des techniques d’expositions avec prévention de la réponse (O’Connor & Aardema, 2011). L’objectif de cette étude est d’évaluer la faisabilité et l’effet de la TBI auprès d’un enfant. Cette étude présente l’étude de cas d’une enfant de 12 ans atteinte du TOC. Les résultats montrent une réduction complète des obsessions et des compulsions à la fin du traitement, alors que ces dernières étaient considérées comme sévère à l’évaluation prétraitement. L’amélioration clinique des symptômes du TOC s’est maintenue à l’évaluation de suivi huit mois. La présente étude de cas évalue la faisabilité et évalue l’effet de la TBI chez l’enfant montrant des résultats prometteurs. Ainsi, une étude de validation de l’efficacité de la TBI devra être conduite ultérieurement en tenant compte des limites méthodologiques et des pistes de réflexion suggérées.</p></div><div><p>Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is characterized by the presence of obsessions and/or compulsions that affect child functioning and causes significant distress. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) combined with medication is considered the most effective treatment (Pediatric OCD Treatment Study [POTS], 2004). However, 40 % of children with OCD are refractory to treatment and obsessions or compulsion symptoms remains (Pediatric OCD Treatment Study [POTS]), 2004). In response to the large percentage of children who do not respond to traditional CBT, Fontaine Berthiaume and O’Connor (2018), have developed an inference-based therapy inspired by the adult model. This therapy focuses on imaginary components of the obsessions and the narrative of the child, rather than the irrational beliefs that maintain obsessions. The main aim of the study was to evaluate the feasibility and the effect of inference-based therapy on OCD symptoms in children (Fontaine Berthiaume & O’Connor, 2018). In order to test our hypothesis, we examined a case study of a twelve-year-old recruited at a pedopsychiatric hospital in Montreal. Les mères, confrontées à de nombreux facteurs de stress, sont effectivement susceptibles de présenter des symptômes d’épuisement. Afin de mieux cerner cette problématique, cette recherche s’intéresse aux facteurs explicatifs de l’épuisement maternel auprès de mères de jeunes enfants. Cent vingt mères ayant au moins un enfant entre un et trois ans ont complété des questionnaires comprenant une fiche anamnestique et cinq échelles : le Maslach Burnout Inventory adapté à la maternité, la Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, l’échelle parentale de provisions sociales et l’échelle de stress de la vie quotidienne lié à l’interface famille/travail. Les analyses ont montré que 34,2 % (<em>n</em> <!-->=<!--> <!-->41) des mères de jeunes enfants présentent un certain degré d’épuisement. Les facteurs principaux en lien avec ce syndrome seraient : le fait de ne pas avoir d’activité professionnelle, la perception de difficultés financières, un mauvais sentiment de compétence parentale et la symptomatologie dépressive. Cette étude préliminaire permet de mettre en évidence l’importance de l’épuisement chez les mères de jeunes enfants et souligne la nécessité de développer des programmes d’intervention et de prévention.</p></div><div><h3>Introduction</h3><p>Having a child is a fulfilling experience for most parents that can be experienced as stressful or even exhausting. If this happens, the parent may exhaust his energy reserves to the point where he or she is no longer able to be emotionally available for his or her child. If this persists, deprived of his or her strength, the parent develops a particularly negative and devaluing regard on most of his or her personal accomplishments. As a result, the parent would be suffering from parental burnout (Guéritault, 2008). Despite the fact that job-related burnout has been widely studied we have little scientific work on parental burnout. As in job-related burnout, parental burnout could manifest itself in three dimensions: emotional exhaustion, depersonalization (emotional distancing for parents) towards others and decreased personal accomplishment (Maslach, Jackson, & Leiter, 2010; Roskam, Raes, & Mikolajczak, 2017; Schaufeli, Enzmann, & Girault, 1993). Although the Maslach model has been widely used to assess burnout, there is currently no clear consensus on its definition. Despite these divergences, several researchers’ report that the central core of burnout corresponds mainly to this exhaustion dimension, the burnout dimension who is most correlated to daily stressors (Malach-Pines, 2005; Schaufeli & Enzmann, 1998). In this way, studies of family stressors reveal that these stressors have the greatest impact on parenting and progeny development.
