It was justifiable, therefore, to try to specify the impact on lifestyle, oral hygiene and mood, in specific groups, such as dental university students in Madrid, who were accessible to us.</p><p><strong>Methods: </strong>An anonymous and voluntary cross-sectional observational study was carried out in the first fortnight of December 2021, through an ad hoc online questionnaire, in dentistry students from the Autonomous Community of Madrid. Descriptive analysis of the variables was performed and the associations and significance were assessed using Chi-square and T-student.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>There were received seventy-two surveys. 82% were women and 18% men, with 23±3 years of mean age. 94% had good oral hygiene habits that improved with the pandemic. Their usual diet was varied and complete. Women consumed less meat (p=0.014) and more fruit (p=0.066), habits that they maintained, and men have improved with an increase in fruits (p<0.002), vegetables and legumes (p<0.003) in the pandemic. Tobacco (23,4%) and alcohol (54%) consumption decreased in confinement and increase in post-confinement. 36% increased their physical activity, initially low, especially in post-confinement.</p><p><strong>Conclusions: </strong>The students in the sample have good oral hygiene and eating habits, which they keep and even improve with the pandemic, including an increase in physical exercise in a significant fraction of the sample. Psychiatric emergency care may be the gateway to health services. Therefore, the aims of this study were: 1) to compare the profile of people aged sixty-five years and older seen for suicide attempts (SA) and those seen for other mental health problems in hospital psychiatric emergency departments; and 2) to establish the specificity of the Columbia Screening Scale (C-SSRS) in the exploration of suicide risk.</p><p><strong>Methods: </strong>We carried out a secondary analysis of a descriptive, multicentre, observational, descriptive study comparing all persons seen for SA (n=21) and a control group (n=27) seen for another reason, between January and October 2015. Non-parametric analyses were performed on sociodemographic and clinical variables, stressful life events experienced and C-SSRS.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>1) Among those attending for SA, 52.4% were men while those attending for another reason accounted for 18.5%. 2) 38.1% of those attending for SA were in mental health follow-up compared to 66.7% of those attending for other reasons. 3) C-SSRS screening discriminated between those seen for SA and those seen for other reasons.</p><p><strong>Conclusions: </strong>SA in older men may be the opportunity to initiate care and continuity of care in mental health services. In Colombia, there are no recent studies on the epidemiology of patients in this new epidemic. Therefore, aim of this article was to establish the demographic and clinical characteristics of patients with monkeypox and their relationship with the frequency of hospitalization and other variables of clinical notification.</p><p><strong>Methods: </strong>An observational, analytical, and cross-sectional study on monkeypox cases in Colombia between May and September 2022 was executed. Mann-Whitney U test was applied to contrast hypotheses between hospitalization and sociodemographic and quantitative notification variables; Fisher's exact test was used to contrast with the qualitative ones.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>Between May and September 2022, there were 1,260 cases of monkeypox reported in Colombia, 75% of the these were registered in Bogotá D.C. 99% (1,248) of those infected were male with a median age of 32.82% of the patients were from strata 2 and 3 (low to medium-low income). The source of infection was unknown in just over 80% of cases. Less than 1% belonged to ethnic groups. Only 3% required hospitalization. A significant statistically association was found between the frequency of hospitalization, being a woman (p=0.038), Afro-Colombian (p=0.024) and subsidized regime (p=0.009). No association of hospitalization was found with age, but it was found with the days from the onset of symptoms/rash to notification/diagnosis (p<0.05).</p><p><strong>Conclusions: </strong>Monkeypox cases are concentrated in the capital and other Andean departments of Colombia. Most of these progress without seriousness, without deaths. Men are the most affected population group. Women, afro-colombians and subsidized patients deserve special attention because they are more prone to hospitalization. The objective of the study was to assess the role of a home respiratory telerehabilitation program based on exercises and education in patients admitted to COVID-19.</p><p><strong>Methods: </strong>An observational cohort study of COVID-19 patients admitted to General Hospital La Mancha Centro from March to June 2020 was carried out, who were assessed and treated by the rehabilitation, physiotherapy and occupational therapy service. After hospital discharge, the functional capacity, quality of life, mental health and happiness of the patients were assessed by telephone consultation at two, fifteen and thirty days. A descriptive analysis was carried out and for follow-up the McNemar test was used for qualitative variables and Student's t or Wilcoxon paired samples test for quantitative variables.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>Thirty patients were included in the study. The mean age was 60.9 years, with 50% male and 50% female. 80% of the patients were admitted to the ICU, with a mean of thirty four days. 73.3% of the patients developed ICU-acquired weakness. The aims of this paper were to describe the sociodemographic characteristics of people affected by HHT in the Valencian Region (VR), to determine its prevalence and mortality rate, and to analyse the sources of recruitment and verification tests used by the Rare Diseases Information System of the VR (SIER-CV).</p><p><strong>Methods: </strong>Cross-sectional observational epidemiological study of HHT prevalent cases between 2010-2019 in SIER-CV was performed. The distribution of sociodemographic and clinical characteristics were determined, the prevalence and mortality rates, and the sources of recruitment and verification tests used by SIER-CV were analysed. Statistical analysis was performed using Stata (version 16.1) and Microsoft Excel Office.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>During 2010-2019, two hundred cases were identified, 55.5% were female. The mean ages were: 56.8 years at recruitment and 50.9 years at diagnosis. 48.4% of cases were diagnosed between thirty-six/sixty-four years of age. 25.5% died, with a mean age of 76.6 years, identifying statistically significant differences above the age of 64. The prevalence was 39.6/1,000,000 inhabitants and the crude mortality rate was 10.1/1,000,000 inhabitants. 95.5% of cases were recruited from the Hospital discharges database and the most frequent verification test was the clinical basis (45.7%).</p><p><strong>Conclusions: </strong>The increasing trend in prevalence coincides with a better knowledge of HHT, which favours its detection, and also with dying at older ages. To describe the situation of HHT in the VR facilitates its health management and contributes to the establishment of the relevant health policies for the HHT. This study aimed to explore the types of support provided in the SFSN for dependent older people in the Aljarafe Health District-Sevilla Norte (Spain) from a gender perspective.</p><p><strong>Methods: </strong>A qualitative biographical study was carried out, based on semi-structured interviews. The sample size met the theoretical saturation criterion. A total of twenty-four people participated in the study, fifteen women and nine men. For the qualitative analysis of the content and discourse of the people interviewed, Grounded Theory was followed.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>Four categories emerged corresponding to the types of support provided: cognitive, material, instrumental and emotional support. These categories corresponded to the prototypes that caregivers and patients built through the ideas and concepts they had about caring for dependent people. The different types of support provided reduced the discomfort of all members of the SFSN. Differences were evident in the speeches between men and women.</p><p><strong>Conclusions: </strong>Caring continues to be an activity that women usually do. The types of support analyzed show that the existence of a network is a guarantee of care and the use of SFSN reduces the overload of the caregiver by being compensated with the other members of the network. The aim of this paper was to assess the level of risk of suffering a psychosocial disorder in the professionals of the Epidemiological Surveillance Services of Catalonia (EVS) during the sixth wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.</p><p><strong>Methods: </strong>An epidemiological study of prevalence was carried out in SVE workers in Catalonia. The information was collected through a questionnaire of sociodemographic and occupational data and the Goldberg General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-28) from January to March 2022. A score equal to or greater than 7 on the GHQ-28 was considered positive and indicated a risk of suffering some disorder. The dependent variables were the score and positivity of the GHQ-28 test. The relationship between the GHQ-28 score and the rest of the independent variables of the study was studied with the Odds Ratio (OR) and its 95% confidence intervals (IC).</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>The mean age of the population studied was 37 years (SD=±11.4) and 75% were women. 53.8% of the participants presented a positive result in the GHQ-28. The participants with the highest psychosocial risk were workers with a history of psychological problems (OR 2.8; IC95% 1.2-6.7). The risk was also higher in women (OR 1.8; IC95% 0.8-4.1), participants with health professions (OR 1.2: IC95% 0.6-2.5), those who were taking pharmacological treatment (OR 2.4; IC95% 0.6-9.7) or those who were undergoing psychological therapy (OR 1.5; IC95% 0.6-3.6) at the time of data collection and workers who did not had a perception of work support and recognition from their work teams (OR 1.8; IC95% 0.9-3.8), although some differences were not statistically significant.</p><p><strong>Conclusions: </strong>The professionals of the SVE professionals presented, during the sixth pandemic wave, a high risk of psychosocial disorder. The aim of this paper was to evaluate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the epidemiological surveillance of HIV through epidemiological indicators.</p><p><strong>Methods: </strong>Data collected in the New HIV Diagnosis Information System (SINIVIH, acronym in Spanish) in the period 2013-2021 was analyzed. The epidemiological indicators analyzed were: 1) Reporting delay of new diagnoses; 2) Under diagnosis of cases, calculated per month of diagnosis and for each year of diagnosis; 3) Late diagnosis, cases diagnosed with less than 350 CD4 cell/mm<sup>3</sup>.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>Regarding the reporting delay of new diagnoses, in 2022 2,770 diagnoses were reported in 2020, 43.8% more than those reported in 2021 for that year. The cases diagnosed per month between 2016 and 2019 followed a constant trend. In 2020, a significant decrease in diagnoses was observed between March and May that was not recovered after correcting for reporting delay. When comparing the rates of cases diagnosed in 2013 with the successive years, a continuous decrease was interrupted in the last year of the study period. The percentage of cases with late diagnosis had remained stable in the study period (between 46% and 50%), and a decrease in this percentage was observed after correcting for reporting delay.</p><p><strong>Conclusions: </strong>The epidemiological surveillance of HIV suffered a significant reporting delay. A decrease in cases diagnosed is confirmed, partly due to lockdown and lack of access to the health system. {"title":"[Estudio cuasi-experimental sobre intervenciones enfermeras en la valoración, manejo y prevención del síndrome confusional agudo.]","authors":"Laura Lafarga-Molina, Josep-Oriol Casanovas-Marsal, Delia González de la Cuesta","doi":"","DOIUrl":"","url":null,"abstract":"<p><strong>Objective: </strong>Acute confusional syndrome (ACS) is one of the complications with the highest morbidity and mortality in hospitalization units, but it is a reversible situation if detected early, representing a clear challenge for nursing. The objectives of this study were to assess the interventions carried out by nurses for the identification and non-pharmacological preventive measures applied in acute confusional syndrome and relate them to the years of professional experience and training received.</p><p><strong>Methods: </strong>A quasi-experimental, prospective and analytical study was carried out through a self-administered structured questionnaire pre-post intervention (extracted from the JBI PACES program-Practical Application of Clinical Evidence System) on the identification and preventive measures applied in ACS. A total of 520 questionnaires (pre and post assessment) were distributed to nurses from the emergency department and the internal medicine unit of the Miguel Servet University Hospital in Zaragoza (Aragón, Spain) from January 2021 to April 2022. Statistical analysis carried out with the program Jamovi®2.3.13.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>180 correctly completed questionnaires (94 pre and 86 post) were received. For 100%, the ACS supposed an extra workload and significant differences were found between the ability to manage ACS with the years of professional experience (p≤0.028). 97.2% of the nurses applied non-pharmacological interventions.</p><p><strong>Conclusions: </strong>Despite being perceived as an extra burden in daily work, nurses perform non-pharmacological prevention for the management of ACS.
