LU is a diagnosis of exclusion. As these lesions heal spontaneously, in the absence of tissue scarring, the therapy is mainly symptomatic and focuses on pain relief. Recurrence of LU associated with oral ulcers describes the clinical picture of complex aphthosis, which belongs to Behçet’s disease (BD) pathological spectrum. Our work aims to analyze the correct diagnostic approach to recurrent aphthous, focusing on the importance of a multidisciplinary assessment and immunogenetic investigation to identify the subjects at risk of progression towards BD. Methods: We present the case of a 12-year-old non sexually active Italian girl who was diagnosed with LU. After 15 months, she presented recurrent reactive non sexually related acute genital ulcer associated with a history of oral aphthous. According to clinical features and anamnesis, complex aphthosis was diagnosed. For diagnostic purposes, she underwent an immunogenetic analysis that showed HLA-B51 positivity. Results: In the absence of clinical and laboratory criteria to define the risk of progression of complex aphtosis towards BD, we think that besides a strict follow-up, in pediatric patients with a suggestive clinical history, it is crucial to adopt a multidisciplinary approach, comprehensive of HLA investigation, in order to guarantee an early diagnosis and a prompt therapeutic intervention. Conclusions: In children and adolescents with genital ulcers, it is essential to consider all the possible differential diagnoses to undertake a timely and correct course of treatment. Some studies described the positive impact of a training intervention on the knowledge and attitudes of nurses in detecting PVA. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of a training intervention focused on detection of PVA. Methods: A before-after design on a single group of nursing students (University “L. Vanvitelli” in Naples) was used. The training intervention about detection of the correct respiratory waveform through graphic monitoring was conducted in a single edition live course of 2 hours, for 25 participants. Measurements of correct detection of PVA through specific competency assessment tool (closed-ended question) were performed before (T0), immediately after (T1) and at 1 month (T2) from the training intervention between January and February 2020. Results: 19 Nurse students completed the training. A total of 50 questionnaires were distributed (T0; n=19; T1; n=19; T2; n=12). PVA were correctly detected in 67.5% (77) of cases. Statistically significant difference There were differences in trainees’ performance between T0 and T1 [77,2% (CI 95%: 68,7% - 85,8%; p=0.001)] and between T0 and T2 [75% (CI 95%: 65,3% - 84,7%; p=0.001]. No significant difference was recorded between T1 and T2 (p=0.83). The aim of the present study was to compare and contrast the outcomes of early vs late tracheostomy with regard to intensive care unit (ICU) patients’ weaning from respiratory support. Methods: This retrospective observational study, involved patients who were hospitalized in two general and one Covid-19 ICUs of two tertiary hospitals in Athens and were subjected to tracheostomy. Data were collected from the patients’ medical records in order to estimate the duration of patient weaning and the number of days from the patients’ intubation until the time of tracheostomy. In the present study the term early tracheostomy denotes tracheostomy performed within 14 days from patient intubation and late tracheostomy defines the tracheostomy carried out after 14 days. For Covid-19 patients, guidelines suggested that tracheostomies should be performed 21 days following intubation, due to the high risk of virus transmission. Results: One hundred and thirty-one patients who underwent tracheostomy participated in the study. Most tracheostomies were performed using the percutaneous technique. The group of patients tracheostomized within 14 days after their admission in ICU weaned faster from respiratory support compared to ones who were tracheostomized after 14 days. Conclusions: The most common distinction between early and late tracheostomy is 14 days, with early tracheostomy being more beneficial in terms of patients’ outcomes, and specifically ICU patients’ weaning. The aim of this project was to investigate nursing students’ attitudes on caring for people with HIV/AIDS. Methods: A convenient sample of undergraduate nursing students enrolled in four European universities was recruited. Data were collected by administering the AIDS Attitude Scale (AAS). Statistical analysis included the ANOVA test, the t–test for independent variables, and the Kruskal-Wallis test with a confidence level P <0.05. Results: The sample consisted of 594 students of which 162 (27.3%) were English, 246 (41.4%) Italian and 186 (31.3%) Greek. Study findings demonstrated that students’ attitudes toward HIV/AIDS patients were relatively positive, although the majority of them indicated fear of contracting HIV through clinical practice. Nursing students’ positive feelings for HIV/AIDS patients were also correlated with the strong willingness to take care of them. Conclusions: Despite being exposed to different teaching and learning experiences, a significant part of the participants believe that HIV/AIDS make nursing a high-risk profession. Furthermore, students’ misconceptions are not limited to clinical practice areas as they expressed concerns in sending their children in a class along with a child affected by AIDS and/or in dining in a restaurant where a chef affected by AIDS works. Students are in general well-disposed towards this patients’ population but there is still stigma associated with this condition. A new teaching and learning approach may help redefining students’ attitudes and in limiting the negative impact of misconceptions on the quality of nursing care. Further investigation in this area would help in shading light on the reasons why students are still biased in approaching AIDS/HIV patients. The use of a qualitative approach based on semi-structured interviews and/or focus group would be recommended. Methods: Observational, cross sectional, multicenter study conducted during the first phase of the pandemic (May-June 2020) involving the national population (n=889) subjects, through an online survey. Results: 889 people participated in the study. Among the greatest satisfaction perceived about the assistance received during the first pandemic wave, there are those towards the health assistance received in general (p=.049), towards people hospitalized (p=.046), and the treatment received for the COVID-19 test (p=.002). Among the greatest difficulties encountered there is also that of contacting the general practitioner (p=.032), to the treatment received from Local Health Authority (p=.006), to the treatment received from the call center numbers activated during the pandemic, as the toll-free number (p<.001) and the “1500” number (p<.001) and to the treatment received for relative (p<.001).
