ASD symptomatology is expressed variably—and to varying degrees—in the 1 in 59 affected persons in the United States [2]. The complexity associated with globalization has had defining effects and emotive connotations. At one end, the impact of globalization is seen as an essential component of the positive development of economic, political, social and cultural as well as environmental improvements globally. At the other end, it is seen as a source and root of contemporary tribulations, possibly contributing to segregation and alienation. This paper defines the idea of inclusivity within the globalized landscape. It discusses briefly the importance of inclusive education within the 21st century educational systems and also deliberates on its key challenges. One of the greatest obstacle faced by educational institutions globally is maintaining the balance between the neo-liberal agenda (which focuses on the competitiveness of schools in their market contexts) [1] and the educative agenda, that emphasizes the significance of social and moral values, shared social responsibility and action [2] .","PeriodicalId":93559,"journal":{"name":"Global journal of intellectual & developmental disabilities","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45992229","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This case-control study explored the association between perinatal and socioeconomic status with risk of autism. Method: It was a case control study among children who came from different areas of the country during the period of 2005 to 2015 for assessment in the outdoor facility of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University. One hundred children were diagnosed autism by Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS)-Generic. Among them 79 were boys and 21 were girls. Another one hundred children without autism were taken as control, 65 of them were boys and 35 were girls. Perinatal and socioeconomic risk factors were analyzed in these two groups, using medical records. Result: Mean age of the ASD children was 3.51+1.58 year and control was 3.80+1.53. Male predominance was observed in ASD children. After univariate analysis three significant variables identified to pose as risk for autism. These were parental advanced level of education (P=<0.001), urban residence (P=<0.001) and neonatal jaundice (P=<0.001). Variables like male sex, occupation as service holder and low birth weight at birth approached significance at the 0.05 level. Conclusion: Results suggested that parental profile as well as perinatal environment are associated with risk of autism and this factor act independently.","PeriodicalId":93559,"journal":{"name":"Global journal of intellectual & developmental disabilities","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42665091","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Foster","doi":"10.19080/gjidd.2019.05.555671","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.19080/gjidd.2019.05.555671","url":null,"abstract":"In a recent paper, my co-authors and I examined issues around the adequacy of both provision and quality of pre-school education in one province of Thailand, Prayukvong, Sornprasith and Foster [1]. As a final conjecture, I wrote (p.264), that, “one would speculate that, sadly, the opportunities and needs of disabled children, be they physical or mental disabilities, are likely to be somewhere rather low down the priorities list of many funders and providers, in a setting of intrinsic shortage. Any evidence to the contrary would be both interesting and a source of hope.” The thinking behind this comment was that, even where pre-school education is relatively good in S.E. Asia, prevailing social attitudes and resource constraints will probably mean that those children with disabilities are more likely to face the prospect of exclusion from pre-school and school programmes than are their peers of able body and mind. Other factors which may have traction in this setting along with disability, are gender (being female may be a drawback), being a member of an ethnic minority, or being a refugee, see Slee [2]. Nevertheless, the notion that a child may be denied education, at any level, simply because they have a disability must surely be seen as abhorrent in the 21st century, not least because it is they, more than any others who need help, perhaps specially crafted help, if they are to live a decent life enabling them to have selfrespect and to be respected by others.","PeriodicalId":93559,"journal":{"name":"Global journal of intellectual & developmental disabilities","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44297275","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
