We examined unique pandemic grief risk factors, dysfunctional grief, Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) symptoms, general psychiatric distress, disrupted meaning, and functional impairment in a treatment-seeking sample of people bereaved from COVID-19 in the United Kingdom. A sample of 183 participants (91.80% female; M = 47.40 years) completed an online survey as part of an intake assessment for a grief support and referral service. Most reported clinically elevated PTSD symptoms (83.1%), psychiatric distress (64.0%), and functional impairment (56.8%). A smaller, but still concerning percentage (39.3%) reported clinically significant symptoms of dysfunctional grief. Disrupted meaning substantially mediated the relationship between risk factors and all four outcomes. Counsellors should address the breadth of psychological distress in those bereaved by COVID-19 and hone their skills in promoting meaning making in the wake of the trauma and loss generated by the pandemic.","PeriodicalId":9352,"journal":{"name":"British Journal of Guidance & Counselling","volume":"17 1","pages":"395 - 406"},"PeriodicalIF":1.2,"publicationDate":"2022-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89394422","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"心理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Techniques have great potential to run effectively and get maximum results. Because students in a school environment will tend to be easy to imitate the behavior of their peers. Peer modeling techniques will position students as observers who will observe other students as modeling objects. The aspect observed by the client is how the pattern of life and discipline applied by students is used as an object. The client will observe and then try to apply it in his life. The advantage of this technique is that the client will be more flexible and flexible in observing the object, because the object is his own friend. Observation results will also be more flexible because the object can be varied so that it can be adjusted to the client's self. In handling it, the application of counseling with peer modeling techniques is a potential solution. The role of the environment in this technique makes the client free to explore and observe the modeling object that has been determined. Accurate and maximum results will be obtained if the counselor, client and also the steps taken are appropriate and coherent. The research subjects were students of class IX MTs NU Mranggen for the 2020/2021 school year. The methods used in collecting data were questionnaires, interviews and observations. The result obtained in the first cycle were still medium, is namely 51% of the success indicator, while the second cycle is in the low category with a score 30%, so it can be concluded that peer modeling is effective in reducing academic procrastination.","PeriodicalId":9352,"journal":{"name":"British Journal of Guidance & Counselling","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":1.2,"publicationDate":"2022-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77231257","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"心理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Instrumen pengumpulan data yang digunakan untuk mengukur kecerdasan emosi dan verbal abuse adalah skala Likert. Kecerdasan emosi diukur berdasarkan aspek-aspek kecerdasan emosi yaitu mengenali emosi, mengelola emosi, memotivasi diri, mengenali emosi orang lain (berempati), membina hubungan baik dengan orang lain, pada verbal abuse diukur berdasarkan bentuk-bentuk dari verbal abuse yaitu mengucapkan kata-kata kasar, memfitnah, mengancam, menakut-nakuti, menghina, membesar-besarkan kesalahan orang lain. Populasi penelitian dan sampel penelitian ini ada 33 responden dengan kriteria sesuai tujuan penelitian. Analisis data yang digunakan adalah Analisis Regresi Linier Sederhana. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ada hubungan negatif antara kecerdasan emosi dengan perilaku verbal abuse pada koefisien Rxy = -0.434 dan p = 0.006 berarti (p < 0.05), hal ini berarti semakin rendah kecerdasan emosi maka semakin tinggi perilaku verbal abuse pada guru, sehingga terlihat ada hubungan negatif antara kedua variabel tersebut.","PeriodicalId":9352,"journal":{"name":"British Journal of Guidance & Counselling","volume":"6 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":1.2,"publicationDate":"2022-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89517803","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"心理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Suggestions were then subjected to thematic content analysis and classified as child-centred, teacher-centred or parent-centred approaches. Counsellors primarily suggested child-centred approaches for ADHD and teacher-centred approaches for LD. They highlighted the need for ensuring that schools accommodate to the realities of these students. Although some of the counsellors were more sensitive to abusive labelling and unnecessary medication, the majority of them were not against medication for ADHD. They felt less competent to cope with children with LD, and mostly suggested ways of keeping them from being alienated from family and friends.","PeriodicalId":9352,"journal":{"name":"British Journal of Guidance & Counselling","volume":"16 1","pages":"732 - 742"},"PeriodicalIF":1.2,"publicationDate":"2022-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83309674","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"心理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A qualitative cross-case comparative design, a functional equivalence sampling approach and telephonic unstructured interviews were used. We identified diverse ways in which cultural-contextual variables were linked in the two contexts. Thematic analysis yielded five major themes: role of culture, culture and career guidance, cultural ideation, pedagogy, and empathy. Findings also show how social justice as a lens reveals significant differences in how these aspects were constructed in Pakistan and the UK. The use of Social Justice theory for career guidance training of new practitioners and the formulation of culture-specific theories of career guidance are discussed.","PeriodicalId":9352,"journal":{"name":"British Journal of Guidance & Counselling","volume":"31 1","pages":"997 - 1008"},"PeriodicalIF":1.2,"publicationDate":"2022-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89148957","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"心理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Drawing on the idea that bereavement requires meaning-making, we engage in an interview-style conversation about how (1) we each made sense of our spouse's death, (2) experienced Post-Traumatic Growth (PTG) as described by Calhoun and Tedeschi [(2006). Through a “researcher as practitioner” lens, we conceptualise identity change using Dialogical Self Theory and engage in writing as a therapeutic narrative re-storying process. A four-factor Aspire model consisting of benefits, nature of work, employer value, and employer visibility was tested using structural equation modelling, with data collected from 2048 full-time college students from India over a period of five years. Behavioural insights were extracted using multivariate analysis of variance of Aspire factors across gender, programmes, course and graduating year.
