Through an ex-post reflection on the first author’s recent experiences, we provide a framework and vocabulary that opens up new ways of understanding academic capability building and the academic knowledge creation process. We suggest that applying IB knowledge to our own profession may help us to better understand our own knowledge creation process.","PeriodicalId":93253,"journal":{"name":"AIB insights","volume":"17 3","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139529337","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We explain the various factors pertaining to these components mediated by content relatability but moderated by country culture and content genre in enhancing performance. We argue that relatable movie content in a conducive country environment, such as regulatory structure and norms, cross-border trade-related norms, and socio-economic structure, will persuade production houses to launch movies there, leading to a higher likelihood of its consistent global reach and success.","PeriodicalId":93253,"journal":{"name":"AIB insights","volume":"52 33","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138588129","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This article explores the incorporation of Generative AI (GenAI) into IB curricula, examining course fit and faculty readiness, while presenting actional recommendations across three dimensions: Engagement, Collaboration, and Academic Integrity. We propose methods for interactive learning and lesson engagement using GenAI’s conversational interface and prompts engineering. We also propose leveraging GenAI as a multifaceted tool to enhance international teamwork and collaboration and cultivate cross-cultural and linguistic connections. Additionally, we outline measures to prevent its misuse and mitigate the inherent threats it poses to academic integrity and assessment.","PeriodicalId":93253,"journal":{"name":"AIB insights","volume":"44 5","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138593297","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In response, MNEs need to build firm-specific organisational capabilities to address geopolitical challenges and manage the conflicting interests between the host and home countries. While corporate political capabilities can vary at the country level, firms differ in their relationships with the home-country government. In my dissertation research, I investigated the role of the home-country government in shaping firms’ corporate political capabilities in overseas markets. This research provides new frameworks and tools for international business practitioners to manage business-government relations at home and abroad.","PeriodicalId":93253,"journal":{"name":"AIB insights","volume":"169 ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139250313","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While corporate social responsibility (CSR) and SL are linked by a social contract between corporation and society, they are distinguished from one another. It is often assumed that CSR guarantees SL, but evidence shows that, when members possess unequal socio-political power within a community approving SL, CSR can be counterproductive to SL. In a deliberatively democratic society, corporate political activity (CPA), as a nonmarket strategy other than CSR, can also harm SL, as it manifests corporate power that contradicts political egalitarianism.","PeriodicalId":93253,"journal":{"name":"AIB insights","volume":"57 5","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139258809","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A large body of research examines how GVC governance varies across industries, however, GVC governance dynamics within industries receive less attention. This study bridges the gap between GVC and international business theories to focus on GVC governance heterogeneity as a source of competitive advantage. Through mixed-methods including grounded theory, structural equation modelling, and comparative case studies, the research reveals the interplay between network-orchestration and network-dependence as lead firms shape GVC governance transitions. Insights can help managers optimise complex GVC governance structures, particularly in the context of digitalisation.","PeriodicalId":93253,"journal":{"name":"AIB insights","volume":" 3","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135241398","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It addresses how firms are affected by random (crisis), regular (election), and firm-induced changes in their political environment. The three key findings of my dissertation are that internal and external institutional pressures are not independent of each other; firms´ international and national diversification act as safeguards when political events occur; and non-pivotal corporate political activities are oftentimes underestimated. In its entirety, the dissertation not only sheds light on various political challenges, but also on firms’ strategies in addressing those challenges.","PeriodicalId":93253,"journal":{"name":"AIB insights","volume":"56 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135729110","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

How does impact investing influence sustainability in the global value chains of MNCs?
