Chinese Firms’ Corporate Political Capabilities in Overseas Markets

Multinational enterprise managers increasingly face the challenge of maintaining their firms’ international operations under geopolitical uncertainty. In response, MNEs need to build firm-specific organisational capabilities to address geopolitical challenges and manage the conflicting interests between the host and home countries. While corporate political capabilities can vary at the country level, firms differ in their relationships with the home-country government. In my dissertation research, I investigated the role of the home-country government in shaping firms’ corporate political capabilities in overseas markets. This research provides new frameworks and tools for international business practitioners to manage business-government relations at home and abroad.
