Neuroinflammation (NI), an inflammatory response within the brain or spinal cord has been shown to accelerate the development of Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease. Conventional pharmaceutical drugs to treat NI can be expensive and promote financial burdens for chronic treatment. The goal of this study was to identify possible natural product alternatives that control NI and stable cell morphology. One viable alternative is curcumin, a chemical compound found in turmeric (Curcuma longa). Another alternative is fish oil, a natural product enriched with omega-3 fatty acids. Pretreatment with curcumin or fish oil significantly attenuated lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced cytokine release from acute and chronically treated BV-2 microglial cells and reduced Caspase 3/7 expression in HT-22 neuronal cells.","PeriodicalId":93072,"journal":{"name":"American journal of biomedical science & research","volume":"56 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136084216","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are three key parameters in the model: the nociceptor activation temperature, the subjective threshold for flight initiation, and the human reaction time. We explore mathematical formulations for inferring the three parameters from data measured in exposure tests using the method of limit. We find that the simultaneous inference of the three parameters depends on the experimental design in the sequence of exposure tests. When the beam power density and beam radius of exposure tests span a rectangular region along its two diagonal directions, the three parameters are robustly estimated. Future experiments should consider this pattern of beam power density and beam radius when designing exposure tests. In the case of fluctuating subjective threshold, the medians of three parameters are still reliably estimated when the relative uncertainty in subjective threshold is small or moderate.","PeriodicalId":93072,"journal":{"name":"American journal of biomedical science & research","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135860784","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Total Knee Arthroplasty (TKA) is a surgical procedure in which an artificial joint or prosthesis replaces the damaged knee. A significant proportion of the patients experience AKP after surgery. The pain is described as a retro patellar or peripatellar pain. Bone defect repair is a difficult problem in orthopedics clinic. Bone tissue engineering has brought hope for the repair of bone defects. However, the clinical integration of bone tissue engineering scaffolds is still very low. The major obstacle is the lack of accompanying vascularization of the engineered bone construct, resulting in cell necrosis and bone failure in the area within the implant material. This small review briefly summarizes the novel bone tissue engineering scaffolds with good curative effect in repairing bone defects.","PeriodicalId":93072,"journal":{"name":"American journal of biomedical science & research","volume":"188 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135916547","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Objectives: To compare frequency of pin site infection rate between Schanz screws and k-wires in Ilizarov fixator for tibial fracture. Material and Methods: This Randomized control trial Study was conducted in the Department of Orthopedics, Lady Reading Hospital Medical Teaching Institute Peshawar Pakistan from September 2022 till March 2023 on 166 patients aged 20 to 60 years of both gender undergoing Ilizarov fixation after isolated fracture of tibia were enrolled using non-probability consecutive sampling technique, after approval of hospital ethical committee and written informed consent of patients. Patients were randomly divided into two groups using computer generated random sequence number. Patients in group A were stabilized using K-wires and patients in group B were stabilized using K-wire and Schanz screws. Pin site infection was noted in both groups at the end of 12 weeks. Data was entered and analyzed using SPSS 22. Results: In our study 166 patients were enrolled, 83 patients in each group. Mean age was 35.83±7.1 years in group A and 37.7±11.6 years in group B. There were 66.3% males in group A and 69.9% males in group B, females were 33.7% in group and 30.1% in group B. Pin site infection was more common in K-wire group as compared to Schanz group i.e., 18.1%versus 7.2%, p-value 0.036. Conclusion: Schanz screw is associated with decrease pin site infection rate as compared to K-wire in Ilizarov fixator for tibial fracture.","PeriodicalId":93072,"journal":{"name":"American journal of biomedical science & research","volume":"92 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136375128","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
