In this article, we summarize aspects related to pregnancy counselling for kidney transplant recipients based on past research. Kidney transplant recipients tend to have overall higher rates of preterm deliveries, low-birthweight babies, and caesarean section than the general population. There have been instances of maternal complications such as preeclampsia, allograft loss, and urinary tract infections during pregnancy; in particular, hypertension is a common problem among kidney transplant recipients. Pregnancy counselling should start when a recipient chooses renal replacement therapy, and the counselling program should be tailored to the recipient's life cycle and treatment period. It is necessary to explain the essential conditions for pregnancy, such as the need to change to a safe drug, ensure stable kidney function, and wait one to two years after transplantation before conception. Medical staff should be informed about menstrual recovery after transplantation, contraception, and unexpected pregnancy. When a recipient becomes pregnant, it is necessary to convey information about the mode of delivery and breastfeeding. The contents of pregnancy counselling must be modified according to recipient needs, and detailed discussions are needed between medical staff and transplant recipients. Medical staff should support recipients and their family during the decision-making process before conception. It is essential for kidney transplant recipients to discuss the topic of pregnancy with transplantation physicians, so as to give birth safely and maintain their health with a donated kidney.","PeriodicalId":92765,"journal":{"name":"Clinics in mother and child health","volume":"17 1","pages":"1-3"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"69966118","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There was limited evidence on pregnancy outcomes of reduced fetal movement in Ethiopia. Objectives: The aim of this study was to assess pregnancy outcome of reduced fetal movement and its determinant factors. Methods: Unmatched case control study design was conducted. All mothers were recruited from delivery ward in Injibara General Hospital, from 1st February to May 30th 2019. Cases were mothers who were presented with reduced fetal movement and controls were mothers who were not perceived reduced fetal movement. Bivariate and multivariate logistic regressions model were fitted to identify factors associated with reduced fetal movement. An adjusted odds ratio with 95 % confidence interval (CI) was computed to determine the level of significant. Results: A total of 285 participants (95 cases and 190 controls) were included giving for a response rate of 100%. Impending preterm labor [AOR: 3.18, 95% CI :(1.48-6.84)], preeclampsia /eclampsia [AOR: 5.98, 95%CI : ( 2.99-11.99)], oligohaydraminous [AOR: 4.13, 95%CI: (1.64-10.44)], post term pregnancy [AOR: 5.61, 95%CI: (2.59-12.14)] increases the risk of reduced fetal movement. Conclusion : Women presenting with reduced fetal movement are at increased risk of poor pregnancy outcomes including still birth, preterm birth, low appearance, pulse, grimace, activity and respiration (APGAR) score and increased rate of cesarean section .Impending preterm labor, preeclampsia /eclampsia, oligohaydraminous and post term pregnancy are the predicting factors for reduced fetal movement. Many expecting families are unaware that in addition to traditional approaches, newer technologies enable an earlier determination of the fetus’s sex. This may be because little research has been conducted on reasons why expecting mothers opt for an earlier identification technique. A company focused on DNA-based prenatal and pediatric tests, Gateway Genomics, aimed to specify the motivations behind early fetal sex determination by acquiring input from expecting mothers who purchased the SneakPeek® Early Gender Test, which can be utilized as early as 8 weeks into pregnancy. Following data collection and analysis, it was revealed that there were various motives that influenced the selection of an earlier fetal sex determination method. The most significant factors were curiosity and the ability to shop for and name the fetus.","PeriodicalId":92765,"journal":{"name":"Clinics in mother and child health","volume":"17 1","pages":"1-4"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"69966418","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the developing countries the unacceptably high maternal mortality overshadows severe maternal morbidity. In Ethiopia a woman is said “ gulbete dekama ” when she get pregnant to mean she is incapacitated and congratulated when she has successfully given birth as “enkuan fetari aterefesh” to mean ‘well survived’. Severe obstetric morbidity continues to be a neglected dimension of maternal health, unlike maternal death. This study aimed at assessing proportion and factors associated with obstetric near miss in Northwest Ethiopia. Methods: An institution based cross sectional study was conducted from March to April 2017. Data was collected using a pre-tested questionnaire with systematic random sampling technique among 501 participants and analyzed through SPSS. Both bivariable and multivariable logistic regressions were computed. A P-value less than 0.05 were considered statistically significant at 95% confidence level. Results: Overall, 116 (23.2%; 95%CI:19.1-26.64) of the mothers were having obstetric near misses. The mean age was 26.12 ± 5.6, and the median distance a woman travelled to reach at this facility was 40 kilometers. Age of woman[AOR=3.6; 95%CI:1.29-9.93], marital status[AOR=4.3; 95%CI:1.61-9.12], gravidity[AOR=3.9; 95%CI: 1.74-8.84] and [AOR=2.5; 95%CI:1.14-5.23], antenatal care[AOR=0.1; 95%CI:0.03-0.61], birth weight[AOR=2.2; 95%CI:1.01-4.95], length of hospital stay[AOR=7.3; 95%CI:3.76-13.01] and mode of delivery[AOR=3.5; 95%CI: 1.72-7.22] and [AOR=3.5; 95%CI:1.21-11.13], were significantly associated with obstetric near miss. Conclusions: The proportion of obstetric near misses was found to be high. Hemorrhagic disorders were the most common event of near miss. Risk of near miss was increased in mothers with extreme age, non-married, not having antenatal care, birth by cesarean section and longer hospital stay.","PeriodicalId":92765,"journal":{"name":"Clinics in mother and child health","volume":"17 1","pages":"1-7"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"69965914","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Our study aimed to determine in each trimester of pregnancy the factors associated with anemia and the outcomes in the mother and infant in a cohort of Algerian pregnant women. Methods: We conducted a prospective and longitudinal cohort study of 300 women from December 2013 to July 2016. All consenting women attending antenatal consultation and had undergone complete blood count were included in the study. Sociodemographic characteristics and individual’s obstetrical history were collected. Factors associated to maternal anemia were investigated during each trimester of pregnancy. Data on delivery term, delivery mode and birth outcomes were collected. We performed a bivariate analysis using the Chi-square test for proportions, Student’s t-test, or one-way ANOVA for continuous variables and multiple comparisons. Results: The rate of gestational anemia was 58.0%. The average concentration of hemoglobin, hematocrit, blood volume and platelets were lower in anemic pregnant women. Factors associated with anemia were: lower hemoglobin levels, lower BMI in the 3rd trimester, inadequate gestational weight gain, insufficient caloric intake in the 1st and 3rd trimesters and non supplementation with iron. Maternal anemia increased the risk of low birth weight in early and late pregnancy and the risk of overrun term in mid and late pregnancy. Conclusion: Various antropomethric, haematological and nutritional factors affected gestational anemia. Gestational anemia was associated with increased risks of maternal and fetal complications. Community-based interventions should be enhanced considering the identified associated factors.","PeriodicalId":92765,"journal":{"name":"Clinics in mother and child health","volume":"17 1","pages":"1-9"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"69966224","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is ‘He’ who created man on the earth, and instead of binding him to follow the divine path in the whole of his life like other creatures, gave him freedom of choice to follow it or do otherwise in the sphere of his life. The divine guidance regarding that sphere of human life in which man is given freedom has been revealed to him through the Messengers of God who came to the world in different ages and conveyed to mankind the message which was revealed to them along with the warning that if man does not follow it he has to face bitter consequences in the life-hereafter and sometimes in the worldly life as well. It was revealed through Prophets that the purpose of creation of human beings was that they should live in the world as the representatives of Almighty and that the Divine guidance should be followed in all spheres of life and those who they this will be rewarded in the life-hereafter and may enjoy a life of harmony and prosperity in this world as well. The revelations of Almighty conveyed through Prophet Mohammad (SAW) the last Messenger’s lays down only the abstract ideas but the practical guidance for all aspects and spheres of life. “O you who believe! Ward of yourselves and your families against a Fire (Hell) whose fuel is men and stones over which are (appointed) angles stern and severe who disobey not (from executing) the commands they receive from Allah but do that which they are commanded”. Thus it is the duty of the parents to pay full attention to proper training and education of children from their early childhood. We should have no stone unturned to save our descendants from the devils which lie in ambush to misguide them. It is the responsibility of the parents to encourage the child to be gentle, well-mannered and pious. This is what Allah says for the guidance of such people. “And those who struggle in our cases, surely we shall guide them in our ways, and God is with the gooddoers”","PeriodicalId":92765,"journal":{"name":"Clinics in mother and child health","volume":"17 1","pages":"1-4"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"69966775","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They are the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in children, especially in developing countries. The main objective of this study was to see mainly the virological aspects in ARI in children in Senegalese hospitals Methodology: We had conducted a prospective descriptive mono-centric study over a period of one year (from July 01, 2017 to June 30, 2018) at the Albert Royer National Children's Hospital in Dakar. Results: The hospital frequency for acute respiratory infections in children was 3.7%. The average age was 23.7 months with extremes between 1 month and 144 months. The peaks of consultations were found in August, March and April with respectively 22%, 15.6% and 12.8%. Fever, respiratory distress and pulmonary condensation syndrome were the main signs found on examination in our patients. Virologic tests were positive in 80.7%. The viruses most frequently found in the samples were the Rhinovirus in 33% of the samples, the respiratory syncytial virus in 24.8% and the coronavirus in 15.6%. Among the diagnoses retained, pneumonia was predominant and found in 61 of the cases, or a prevalence of 59.9%, followed by acute bronchiolitis with a prevalence of 16.51%. The average length of hospital stay was 10 days. Conclusion: Acute respiratory infections in children are still a public health problem in developing countries; children under the age of five years are the most affected, hence the need to strengthen programs to fight ARI. An estimated 9.4 percent of American children aged 6-17 were diagnosed with ADHD and 62 % of those children were prescribed pharmaceutical drugs to treat behavioral and emotional difficulties, according to a 2016 national parent survey that the CDC released. Today in 2020, about 3 in 4 US children receive treatment of some sort for ADHD, whether medicinal or behavioral (CDC, 2020). Many parents choose to avoid giving their children prescription medicines, leaving their children untreated. If ADHD or other behavior problems are left unattended, there can be consequences that are irreversible. Current popular treatment methods are suspected by many parents to be dangerous, believing their prescribed youth are being set up for a number of varied consequences later in life. While deemed generally safe, medicines used to treat behavioral and emotional difficulties when misused can produce irreversible long term effects that can otherwise be avoided. A need for root cause intervention and healthy alternatives to cumulatively toxic medications are needed as alternatives for those parents who opt out of the pharmaceutical route. The understandable choice for natural alternatives will be needed for those parents whose unshakable view of the pharmaceutical salts as “gateway” drugs deter them from altering their children’s brain chemistry, as pharmaceutical salts are aimed to regulate dopamine levels by introducing stimulants into a child’s system such as methylphenidate, amphetamine or atomoxetine, some by themselves and others in combination. Questions to be considered are: What factors can cause EB problems? What can happen if EB problems are left untreated? What alternatives are there to introducing stimulants into a child’s system?","PeriodicalId":92765,"journal":{"name":"Clinics in mother and child health","volume":"17 1","pages":"1-5"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"69966732","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
