Therefore, there is no standard treatment up to date. Case presentation: We present the case of young man (34 years of age) with a locally advanced PEA treated by definitive radiotherapy to the scrotal and groin region. This patient had a complete recovery and the positive outcome continues today, ten years after radiotherapy, with relatively minor late effects including telangiectasia and fibrosis. Conclusion: The patient enjoys a very good quality of life including penile erection. The presented case describes an unusual, very positive, therapeutic response of a locally advanced carcinoma of the epididymis.","PeriodicalId":92691,"journal":{"name":"Mathews journal of case reports","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45124959","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Our data describe the clinical features and laboratory results of a COVID patient with congenital analbuminemia (CAA) and coronary artery disease. To the best of our knowledge, it is the first case of recurrent acute coronary syndrome in a young adult with CAA. Moreover, COVID-19 has never been described among the 90 cases of CAA reported in the literature. Mild clinical manifestations observed in such CAA patients can be explained by the elevated biosynthesis of other plasma proteins, including serum globulins. Indeed, the high serum complements C3 and C4 resulted from CAA disease protect patient from the risk of intravascular coagulation and cell death during COVID-19 infection. On the other hand, the statin therapy of hypercholesterolemia which is mostly observed in CAA patient reduce the incidence of severe clinical manifestations and improve prognosis in COVID-19 patients by modulating the immune response to inflammation, improving endothelial function, inhibiting oxidative stress, and exerting","PeriodicalId":92691,"journal":{"name":"Mathews journal of case reports","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49019300","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Many deaths in developing countries go unreported since many low-income families cannot afford to register their babies in the official government registry. A cross-sectional study was conducted in this study for the period of study. This study was carried out from 24/12/2021 to 11/ 3/2021 in two governmental hospitals: AL Zahra teaching hospital and the Al Hakeem hospital in Al Najaf AL Ashraf province. The study sample was children under five years old who were diagnosed with death and living in Al-Najaf province. This study’s findings show that the highest numbers of respondents, 50%, were married at age 13-18 years. 64% of the total number were from rural areas, and according to family income, 60% of respondents had a family income range from 501- 1.000.000 IQD. According to obstetrical history, 93% of women had died fetus 59% of them died in the third trimester. 30% of women had died children under five years of age. 63% of these events happened for different reasons. In addition, 61% of mothers had a medical history. However, 55% of fathers had the same medical history except for liver diseases. Also, there was 16% of parents had an incompatible blood group. For analysis (n = 396 pregnant women with 56 fetal-maternal clusters), plasma samples were diluted quantitatively with a matrix modifier solution and Pb levels were measured using an atomic absorption spectrophotometer (AA500FG). Compared to women with a normal Body Mass Index, underweight, overweight and obese women group had increased levels of plasma Pb (t-test, p=0.0395). Levels of plasma Pb were also observed in women with a family history of preeclampsia and diabetes mellitus (t-test, p=0.0050 and 0.0312, respectively). At delivery, plasma Pb levels were significantly higher in women as compared to prenatal period [means (±SD), 3.387 μg/L (± 0.965) in 37-42 weeks, 2.060 μg/L (± 0.980) in 20-36 weeks and 1.543 μg/L (± 0.709) in 10-19 weeks, ANOVA, p < 0.0001] and newborns showed higher plasma Pb levels than their mothers [means (±SD), 2.304 μg/L (± 0.644) versus 2.067 μg/L (± 1.067), t-test, p < 0.0001]. Globally, plasma Pb levels show no significant linear negative correlation to all of the birth outcomes (weight, height, ponderal index, Apgar score, gestational age, head circumference).","PeriodicalId":92691,"journal":{"name":"Mathews journal of case reports","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41441546","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An artificial skin scaffold has been constructed mimicking the bilayered structure of the native skin using electrospinning technique for wound healing. Polyurethane (PU) and Gelatin (Ge) were used for developing the epidermal layer and the dermal layer respectively. Ciprofloxacin HCl (Cip. HCl) a fluoroquinolone antibiotic was incorporated in both layers for rapid wound healing. Morphology of the skin scaffold was studied using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis and the chemical characterization was performed using FTIR spectroscopy. Water vapor transmission rate test and oxygen transmission rate test was conducted to evaluate the barrier properties of the scaffold. Thermal stability of the skin scaffold was evaluated using DSC and TGA while an understanding of the exudate absorbing capacity and degradation behavior of the scaffold was obtained from water absorption studies and in vitro degradation studies respectively. In vitro drug release study and drug release kinetics was explored to understand the release mechanism of Cip. HCl from the scaffold. Both the layers showed nano and micropores when analyzed using SEM. The dermal layer showed comparatively more water absorption capacity and degradation, hence providing a moist environment for the wound. The skin scaffold was permeable to water vapor and oxygen, and hence will speed up the process of wound healing. In vitro release for Cip. HCl showed a non-Fickian swelling type release with zero-order kinetics. Disk diffusion test conducted on the bilayers proved the antibacterial activity of the membrane. Hence the electrospun PU-Ge skin scaffold containing Cip. HCl is a promising candidate among modern day wound healing materials.","PeriodicalId":92691,"journal":{"name":"Mathews journal of case reports","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46728939","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A just, equitable and credible peer review process is important to all stakeholders and aspects in healthcare. While a judgment of competence is issued for most practitioners, a much rarer judgement of incompetence is typically ratified by the hospital’s MEC upon completion of a “peer review” process. Adverse outcome leads to disciplinary action and revoking the physician’s hospital privileges. Any adverse privilege action is then reported to the National Practitioner Databank (NPDB), which makes it very difficult for the surgeon/physician to get privileges at any other hospital [1]. Surgeons of all subspecialities are more frequently affected by these punitive actions than non-operative physicians.","PeriodicalId":92691,"journal":{"name":"Mathews journal of case reports","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45816314","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
