Burdina, Anne Murphy Aizhan Budanovna Abibulayeva","doi":"10.15293/2226-3365.1701.03","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.15293/2226-3365.1701.03","url":null,"abstract":"This article analyses the information and communications technology competencies (ICTC) of Master’s degree students in Kazakhstan. It defines the ICTC. Research results suggest that the majority of Master’s degree students have a low level of ICTC. Of prime importance is the fact that the level of research and educational aspects of the ICTC of Master’s degree students in the study is lower than the subject matter aspect. The research shows that teachers and advisers are faced with certain difficulties in organising Master’s students’ scientific research and educational internship. This leads to the need to create additional tools to provide a means of controlling the ICTC-shaping process of Master’s students. The research found that one the most effective tools promoting optimization while working with Master’s students in scientific research, educational and research internship is blended learning technology integrated into the university’s virtual and educational environment. OPEN ACCESS 11176 ABYKENOVA ET AL. Today Master’s program is the most important stage in training scientific manpower. According to the European Higher Education Area Qualification for Master’s programs (the descriptor for the second cycle in the Framework for Qualifications of the European Higher Education Area corresponds to the learning outcomes for EQF level 7), a future Master has highly specialized knowledge in his/her field of study, has critical thinking skills in understanding issues in his/her study area, and has specialized skills in problem-solving in scientific research field. Master’s programs in Kazakhstan are developing in accordance with the procedures of the Bologna process; however we have our own individualities. In particular, there are two types of Master’s programs in Kazakhstan: a) research and educational Master’s program which trains researchers and teachers (a 2 years’ course), and b) field-specific Master’s program training specialists in one particular area (a 1 or 1.5 year’s course). The modernisation of the Kazakhstan system of education identified the necessity of training and linking academics to the system of school education. Thus, according to the State program of education development (2010) in Kazakhstan, the number of teachers having a Master’s Degree at professionoriented schools must reach 20% by 2020. It imposes certain requirements on the quality of teacher training of future Masters. ICTC has an important place in a Master’s degree students’ professional competence as a future researcher and educator. Previous research (Rogers and Twidle, 2013; McGarr and O'Brien, 2007; Lavonen et al., 2006; Lapchik, 2007; Gutiérrez and Serrano Sánchez, 2016; Keijo, 2014) address various aspects of shaping an educator’s ICTC. The scientific aspect of a Master’s student’s competency is examined in many studies (Kehm and Teichler, 2006; Lub et al., 2003; Pombo and Costa, 2009; Bailey and Sorensen, 2013; Harrison and Edwards, 2012; O'Reilly, 1996; ","PeriodicalId":91705,"journal":{"name":"International journal of environmental and science education : IJESE","volume":"17 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-11-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81050758","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

College-aged students were recruited and a mixed-method approach with three phases of data collection was implemented, including a focus group, a pre-educational survey along with an educational module, and a post-educational survey to all participants from the preeducational survey. The final sample for analyses included 163 participants. Paired-sample t-tests showed that the module significantly improved the participants’ objective knowledge and subjective knowledge of, and attitudes toward slow fashion; however, their purchase intentions toward slow fashion remained unchanged. Results also indicated that subjective knowledge and attitude positively predicted purchase intention toward slow fashion. Findings suggest that a 30 minute educational module in the power point format made a significant, positive impact on young adult consumers’ knowledge of and attitudes toward slow fashion. This study expanded the slow fashion research through the incorporation of an educational module which was found to improve consumer knowledge and attitude toward slow fashion.","PeriodicalId":91705,"journal":{"name":"International journal of environmental and science education : IJESE","volume":"135 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-11-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79487311","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Recent research reviews suggest that computer use continues to grow in mathematics and science instruction, and that it can positively affect students’ mathematics and science achievement. Hence, the most successful schools tend to have students that are relatively economically affluent and speak the language of the instruction. Successful schools also are likely to have better working conditions and facilities as well as more instructional materials. The ultimate goal of this study is to investigate the contribution of school resources towards the achievement in science among Malaysian and Singaporean eighth-graders. It focuses on the sound images that are characteristic of different time perceptions-accelerated, decelerated and frozen (vanished). The research is based on the hypothesis that the category of subjective perception of time expresses different concepts and is formed by means of different text categories, including those of acoustic evaluation. The authors arrive at the conclusion that linguistic means expressing acoustic evaluation, i.e. words denoting sounds and their properties, play a significant role in modeling psychological time in a literary text as they enable a reader to \"hear\" the flow of time in a character's consciousness.","PeriodicalId":91705,"journal":{"name":"International journal of environmental and science education : IJESE","volume":"31 1","pages":"2829-2839"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-06-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78851406","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Analysis of the value orientations of the students is of current interest, as they are understood as a social and demographic group of youth characterized by the process of self-determination in life consciously defining their own life values. Students’ life values show things that are important to them, that are worthy to be taken care of, that benefit them, or may be their aim or ideal. The purpose of the article was to study and reveal the most important worldview and life values of today’s Kazakh youth in economic, political, social, and cultural contexts as well as to reveal theoretical and methodological approaches when studying value consciousness of the youth and conducting empirical measurements with subsequent analysis of the situation. Methods of the study were the following: sociological conceptualization, comparative approach, sociological survey. The questionnaire relates to the current problems of concern to the youth of Kazakhstan. A list of values, that the respondents had to choose, was submitted. The study represents a test directed to identifying the state of development of Kazakh society in view of similarities and differences of the values. From the perspective of important external changes occurring in the world, value structure within the country should be clearly understood. Preservation of independence depends on it. Today independence is a presence of identity. The identity is formed on the basis of similarity of values, cultivated by the country. The results of the sociological study comprise of the following: analysis of the scientific methodology of the values as a conceptual basis for further study; identification of difficulties occurring in the process of studying the issue of values; interpretation of the students’ evaluative judgement of students’ values; constants and transformation of civism and patriotism in value consciousness of the youth. Practical application is in evaluation of the status and future directions of implementation of the state youth policy in Kazakhstan.","PeriodicalId":91705,"journal":{"name":"International journal of environmental and science education : IJESE","volume":"124 1","pages":"2481-2494"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85304475","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
