When compared to other teeth, wisdom teeth and the cuspid are discovered to be significantly more impacted. Aside, impacted teeth have a likelihood of more extreme and significant issues, which include fostering the growth of cysts and other consequences because of their close association to the nasal and oral cavity, in addition to their debilitating nature and a likely functioning disruption they can cause. For the patient, managing it is crucial from a cosmetic and practical standpoint. Impaction on premolars is thought to occur at a rate of about 0.5%. We focus on the case of a 19- year-old girl who had an uncommonly affected maxillary second premolar tooth that was treated with surgical exposure and orthodontic traction.","PeriodicalId":91704,"journal":{"name":"International journal of dentistry and oral health","volume":"61 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"91310716","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Forty orthodontically removed premolar teeth were randomly allocated to Group 1(n=20) - (CPP-ACP) and Group 2(n=20) - (CaSP). All the specimens were subjected to FESEM and EDS analysis before the initial demineralization phase and after 14 days of the pH cycling phase, to observe and record changes in surface topography and mineral content (Ca/P ratio % wt.). Statistical data for the Intragroup comparison were analyzed by using Paired sample t-test, whereas for the Intergroup comparison, an Unpaired t-test was performed. Furthermore, the One-way ANOVA test was applied for comparing Intragroup data and the Post-hoc Tukey test was applied to compare Intergroup data. Group 1 samples showed an 11.3%increase in remineralization and Group 2 samples showed a 21.3%increase in remineralization, indicating a statistically significant (p < 0.05) 11% of greater remineralizing efficiency of CaSP. The use of Calcium Sucrose Phosphate (CaSP) tooth cream around the orthodontic brackets seems to produce significantly better remineralization effects.","PeriodicalId":91704,"journal":{"name":"International journal of dentistry and oral health","volume":"91 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88972153","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It has a stronger preference for females and is thought to have originated from periodontal membrane. Maxilla is less often afflicted than the mandible. This bone neoplasm is made up of highly cellular, fibrous tissue with varied levels of calcified tissue, which may resemble cementum, bone, or both. Depending on the degree of calcification, the lesions are either entirely radiolucent, mixed, or fully radiopaque with a radiolucent margin. Due to its propensity for recurrence and potential for malignant change, ossifying fibromas necessitate extensive surgery. In this case, a 20-year-old female had a large ossifying fibroma of mandible.","PeriodicalId":91704,"journal":{"name":"International journal of dentistry and oral health","volume":"43 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77427094","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Treatment options include antifungal drugs, surgical removal of infected tissues, and management of underlying metabolic disorders. Surgery typically includes the complete excision of the diseased region. These defects put the patient at risk for nasal twang, fluid leaks into the nasal cavity, and poor masticatory function. In such defects, the obturator prosthesis can create an oro-nasal seal. This case report describes the rehabilitation of post mucormycosis surgical defect using definitive obturator using cast metal framework.","PeriodicalId":91704,"journal":{"name":"International journal of dentistry and oral health","volume":"30 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90793543","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The patient presented with a skeletal class 1 base malocclusion, and multiple anterior crossbites, along with a compromised lower central incisor and gingival recession. Despite the option of extraction, the patient declined this approach, and the final goal was to achieve stable class 1 occlusion and an improved smile.The treatment plan utilized pre-adjusted edgewise appliance (MBT 0.022 inch slot), distalization of the canine, inversion of the maxillary right lateral bracket, and the cautious use of open coil spring in the upper and lower anterior segments. After alignment was completed, a root coverage procedure was performed on the lower right central incisor. The treatment lasted for 20 months, and the results showed successful alignment of both arches, canine protected occlusion, and improved periodontal health.Overall, this case report highlights the complex relationship between orthodontic treatment and periodontal health and the importance of careful treatment planning and patient communication to achieve successful and stable results. The non-extraction approach combined with root coverage procedure proved to be an effective treatment option for this patient, leading to an improved occlusion, smile, and periodontal health.","PeriodicalId":91704,"journal":{"name":"International journal of dentistry and oral health","volume":"55 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90124036","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A validated online questionnaire was distributed to final-year dental students at Universiti Teknologi MARA. The questionnaire utilized both scaled responses and closed-ended questions to gain data regarding students’ confidence levels in performing root canal treatment. : In this study, 93.4% of the students were confident in placing a rubber dam, 90.8% were confident in injecting local anesthesia and root canal irrigation. Procedures that were rated as least confident were access cavities and management of interappointment flare-ups. For the mean rate of self-confidence in performing RCT in the dentition, maxillary anterior teeth (4.24±0.63) ranked highest followed by mandibular premolars (4.11±0.72), whereas the least confidence was in treating maxillary molars (3.38±0.69). Higher scores of self-confidence were in the management of necrotic pulp (4.22±0.65), followed by vital pulp treatments (3.95±0.61). The main mishaps that students encountered were canal blockage (57.9%) and underestimation of length (52.6%). There is no statistically significant correlation between the confidence level and encountered errors. . : The mean overall confidence score of different endodontic procedures was high, which is 80%. Examining the confidence level of students is a crucial part of this study, which can help to enhance the quality of endodontic education in areas that need improvement.","PeriodicalId":91704,"journal":{"name":"International journal of dentistry and oral health","volume":"150 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80721322","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Facial disfigurement may occur as a result of a congenital anomaly, trauma or tumor surgery. The defects can be rehabilitated surgically or with the help of prosthesis. Many situations due to size or the location of defect or because of patient’s medical condition, surgical reconstruction is not possible. In these cases rehabilitation is done using maxillofacial prosthesis. This case report describes a complete prosthetic rehabilitation of mid face defect secondary to surgery. The intraoral maxillary defect was rehabilitated using velopharyngeal prosthesis and extraoral cheek defect was corrected using custom made two component hollow silicone prosthesis. The rehabilitation restored mastication, speech, swallowing, aesthetics as well as social and psychological status of the patient.","PeriodicalId":91704,"journal":{"name":"International journal of dentistry and oral health","volume":"4 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86185811","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
