Periodontitis is a highly prevalent disease in developed and developing country across all age group & gender. Majority of population in the developing countries suffer from different stages and grades of periodontitis which causes alveolar bone loss, tooth mobility and tooth loss.A cross-sectional study was conductedon 2220 dentate person including both male & female aged from 20 to 65 reported in the Department of Periodontics in 3 months It was observed estimated prevalence of periodontitis increased with age which is much higher among subjects with poor oral hygiene practice and females are suffering more than male. The current study collected significant data for prevalence Inadequate and/or improper maintenance of Oral hygiene confirmed as the most important predictor for periodontitis. Severity was found to be increased with increasing age also more in female than male.The effect of age and gender on the progression of periodontitis seemed to be less important when good oral hygiene is practiced.","PeriodicalId":91704,"journal":{"name":"International journal of dentistry and oral health","volume":"24 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84343183","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Bone cement is a potentially new repair material that has been investigated recently in dentistry because of its properties like low cytotoxicity, excellent biocompatibility and resistance to a moist environment. In Endodontics, bone cement can be used as a furcation repair material, retrograde filling material and in apexification. Modified bone cements are introduced by adding fillers, adhesives, antibiotics, and nanoparticles that make it well suited as an endodontic repair material. This review paper highlights the importance of bone cement and its possible applications in Endodontics.","PeriodicalId":91704,"journal":{"name":"International journal of dentistry and oral health","volume":"46 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86915973","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Among them cigarette smoke has known to have detrimental effects on salivary immune defence mechanisms. The effect of passive smoking on salivary AMP’s and correlation to dental caries in children has not yet been reported. Thus, this study was aimed to assess the correlation between passive smoking and dental caries in exposed and unexposed children. A randomized cross-sectional study was designed & Self-reported questionnaire was filled by the parents of the participants to obtain the data. Participants were divided into passive exposed (PE) and unexposed (UE) group based on exposure parameters. Clinical examination was performed and DMFS were marked for each subject. Unstimulated saliva was collected for 1 min and SFR was measured by analysing saliva in the graduated tubes after which the saliva was subjected for analysis of salivary cotinine and LL-37 concentration through ELISA kit. The mean DMFS and Salivary cotinine levels were elevated in Passive smoking exposed individuals, showing a positive correlation between DMFS and Salivary cotinine levels to passive smoking, but, the mean salivary LL-37 levels were reduced in passive smoking exposed individuals, showing a negative correlation between Salivary LL-37 levels to passive smoking. There was also a dose-dependent relationship between caries experience and smoking exposure. Reduction of passive smoking is important not only for the prevention of various systemic ill-effects, but also for the promotion of health.","PeriodicalId":91704,"journal":{"name":"International journal of dentistry and oral health","volume":"97 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73241722","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The treatment of mandibular segmental defects must consider the missing component’s anatomic; the gold standard of mandibular reconstruction replaces the defect with vascularized bone unless the perioperative risk is extremely great owing to comorbid conditions. To achieve bony healing and restore the mandibular contour, rigid fixation of the free flap bone segments to the remaining mandible is important. The reconstruction made it easier to meet a wide range of treatment requirements. The most common reasons for reconstructive surgery today are defects after tumor surgery due to benign or malignant neoplasms of the oral cavity. First-line or adjuvant radiation plays a major role in today's multidisciplinary head and neck cancer treatment. When exposed to radiation, the mandible, in particular, is susceptible to osteoradionecrosis. So, this article review is to review the history of oromandibular reconstruction, the biomechanics of the mandible and summarizes the various reconstruction options available for the mandible, including defect classification, goals in reconstruction, donor sites, current reconstructive options, dental rehabilitation, and persistent associated problems.","PeriodicalId":91704,"journal":{"name":"International journal of dentistry and oral health","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67389498","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of this work was a finite element analysis (FEA) of the stresses in BI and in the adjacent bone after immediate and delayed loadings in the atrophied bone of mandible. It was found out that von Mises stresses exceeding Ti6Al4V strength were generated in the neck of the existing commercial BI regardless of the level of osseointegration. The modifications of BI dimensions and shape were required to prevent locus minor and to guarantee their long-term stability. Osseointegration caused only small differences in the value of maximum stresses in the cases, when modified BI was applied in the free-standing abutment indications. Involvement of modified BI in the framework system with tooth or SDI caused reduction of maximum von Mises stresses well below the yield strength of Ti alloy and that of compact bone both in immediate and delayed loading cases. The work emphasizes the benefits of BI for unconventional solutions in the treatment of extreme atrophies of the residual ridge crest distal parts of the mandible.","PeriodicalId":91704,"journal":{"name":"International journal of dentistry and oral health","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67389555","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The causal structure of the role of physicians and dentists in healthy longevity is not clear. Objective: The purpose of this research was to clarify the socioeconomic factors underlying three health factors and the relationship among these three health factors. In addition, a main purpose of this research is to clarify the causal structure between subjective health after 3 years and healthy longevity, which is a dependent variable that is defined as the survival days for the next 3 years, as an observation variable, based on the presence of a physician and/or dentist by gender. Method: For the survey method, a self-administered questionnaire was mailed to 16,462 suburban elderly residents in Tama City, Tokyo, in September 2001. Responses were obtained from 13,066 residents (response rate of 79.4%). A similar survey was conducted in 2004. We analyzed a total of 7,905 subjects, including 3,754 males and 4,151 females aged 65 to 84, for whom we were able to clearly determine the need for long-term care after 3 years and their survival days for the next 3 years. Following these subjects for three years from 2004 to 2007, we confirmed the death dates of 278 men and 160 women. Results: According to this study, elderly people with desirable socioeconomic factors tended to have a family dentist. A causal structure was shown, indicating that three health factors are advisable based on socioeconomic status, and as a result, healthy longevity, including both a high level of subjective health and a reduced bedridden status, was maintained. This related structure could explain 64% of healthy longevity. In addition, a similar tendency was shown by gender. Future research will require the use of oral care and health indicators such as blood pressure and blood glucose levels. It is also expected that the external validity would be enhanced by analyzing the causal structure through intervention studies including a randomized control group.","PeriodicalId":91704,"journal":{"name":"International journal of dentistry and oral health","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67389125","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
