Most of the current food suggestion applications offer just generic advices that are not tailored to the user's personal taste. To tackle this issue, we propose in this paper a novel food recommender system that provides high quality and personalized recipe suggestions. These recommendations are generated by leveraging a data set of users' preferences expressed in the form of users' ratings and tags, which signal the food's ingredients or features that the users like. Our empirical evaluation shows that the proposed recommendation technique significantly outperforms state-of-the-art algorithms. We have found that using tags in food recommendation algorithms can significantly increase the prediction accuracy, i.e., the match of the predicted preferences with the true user's preferred recipes. Furthermore, our user study shows that our system prototype is of high usability.","PeriodicalId":91246,"journal":{"name":"DH'15: proceedings of the 5th International Conference on Digital Health 2015 : May 18-20, 2015, Florence, Italy. In the context of connected vehicles, this work extends current infrastructure to include real-time driver monitoring and feedback. Rather than leaving the driver out of the process, the goal is to obtain a vehicle where the degree of autonomy is continuously changed in real-time as a function of uncertainty ranges for driver biological state and behavior. The evolution and dissemination of mobile technology has created exceptional opportunities for highly detailed and personalized data collection in a far more granular and cost effective way. However, turning this potential into practice requires algorithms and methodologies to transform these raw data into actionable information. We have developed a robust driver monitoring platform consisting of automotive sensors (i.e. OBD-II) that capture the real-time information of the vehicle and driving behavior as well as a heterogeneous wearable body sensor network that collects the driver biometrics (e.g., electroencephalography (EEG) and electrocardiogram (ECG)). Accurate synchronization and storage of such multi-source heterogeneous data were also developed and validated. Finally, The task of characterizing driver distraction using EEG signals was investigated in two different road conditions as a proof of concept.","PeriodicalId":91246,"journal":{"name":"DH'15: proceedings of the 5th International Conference on Digital Health 2015 : May 18-20, 2015, Florence, Italy. The goal of this review is to survey efforts and accomplishments performed on e-health systems in Egypt, assess their potential impact, and guide future implementations and evaluations. The review shows that Egypt has still a long way to go in realizing a fully integrated efficient e-health system, but there is an undeniable hope that it has started on the long tedious journey towards e-health system.","PeriodicalId":91246,"journal":{"name":"DH'15: proceedings of the 5th International Conference on Digital Health 2015 : May 18-20, 2015, Florence, Italy. [3] Close to 20,000 of them are undergoing dialysis treatment [3], while a number of them opted for renal transplantation. Kidney transplant patients have to closely monitor their health for at least six to twelve months after surgery in order to prevent rejection or infections. This includes tracking medicine intake, recording vital signs and symptoms, among others. With the aid of technologies such as mHealth, health monitoring for kidney transplant patients would be more convenient. Kidnew: The Kidney Transplant Patient Personal Health Buddy is a web-based and mobile information system that aims to assist kidney transplant patients in tracking their daily health condition by monitoring their day-to-day activities. It provides doctors real-time access to patient records and generates statistical graphs for making decisions. Kidnew is a functional prototype that has gone through user-acceptance testing. Results showed that patients and doctors are satisfied with its overall design, functionality, and usability.","PeriodicalId":91246,"journal":{"name":"DH'15: proceedings of the 5th International Conference on Digital Health 2015 : May 18-20, 2015, Florence, Italy. A key element a game for health shares with a game from the entertainment industry is the ability to engage over long periods of time: the longer a commercial game engages the more popular it becomes, improving its revenue; the longer a game for health is played the more extensive an intervention, improving patient outcomes. As such, having worked on a number of successful titles for over twenty years we explored transferring player engagement techniques in games for entertainment over to games for health. This we achieved in a series of rehabilitative games for different patient conditions and demographics. We present our findings as a number of design and implementation practises that bring a heightened sense of engagement and replay value to games for patients that do not distract from the main health benefit.","PeriodicalId":91246,"journal":{"name":"DH'15: proceedings of the 5th International Conference on Digital Health 2015 : May 18-20, 2015, Florence, Italy. In this study we explore the effects of patient preference on message acceptance and also explore what happens when messages are framed in terms of patient experience. Smokers (n=113) viewed a quitting website in which material was expressed either as a factsheet or as patient experience (PEx) and where the material was either matched or unmatched to their own preferred quitting methods. Across a range of measures, we found strong evidence that preference matching was effective in motivating smokers to engage with the material and we found modest support for the role of PEx in reducing message resistance.","PeriodicalId":91246,"journal":{"name":"DH'15: proceedings of the 5th International Conference on Digital Health 2015 : May 18-20, 2015, Florence, Italy.
