The study used quantitative and qualitative approach. A sample size of 565 household heads was selected for questionnaire administration using systematic random sampling, representing 50% of the sampling frame. In-depth interviews were conducted on twelve (12) key informants from among the executive of neighbourhood associations. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyse quantitative data while content analysis was used for the qualitative data. About half of the residents (50.38%) perceived privacy as low or very low, with visual privacy being rated least (Privacy Perception Index, PPI = 2.34), followed by family (2.22), olfactory (2.12), aural (2.00), neighbourhood (1.79) and personal privacy (1.64). Positioning of spaces, orientation of openings, and absence of dedicated guest room, contributed to low perception of visual and family privacy. About 92% of the respondents agreed or strongly agreed to the use of privacy regulating mechanisms, with personal space and territorial behaviour being more adopted, while non-verbal behaviour was least adopted. The study concluded that perception of privacy was influenced more by housing characteristics than by residents’ socio-economic and cultural characteristics.","PeriodicalId":90388,"journal":{"name":"Urban, planning and transport research","volume":"63 1","pages":"204 - 233"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74063767","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Several scholars have claimed that central and northern Ethiopian cities share a common urban form tradition, and this study compares the morphogenesis of Dire Dawa, located on the country’s eastern border, to this morphological thought. The research employs a comparative analysis technique of Dire Dawa’s morphogenesis based on Conzenian urban form elements. The findings reveal that the spatial organization of the case areas of the city deviates significantly from the conventional morphological philosophy of northern and central Ethiopian cities. Thus, the establishment of new ones and the redevelopment and extension of existing urban quarters must consider urban form philosophy in the nation along with the identity and conservation of urban form features. This will enable a well-managed morphological blending that might incorporate significant new concepts with existing local knowledge without having undesirable consequences.","PeriodicalId":90388,"journal":{"name":"Urban, planning and transport research","volume":"53 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87616983","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, the purpose of this study is to assess the determinants of compliance with the standards that guide the siting of telecommunication masts in the Ghanaian context. The researchers obtained primary and secondary data from telecommunication operators and regulatory institutions . The results of the study showed that the level of compliance is influenced by the effectiveness of inspection and enforcement, land values and compensations paid for land, and rewards for compliance and penalties for noncompliance with the standards and guidelines. The policy compatibility analysis showed that the guidelines that guide the siting of telecommunication masts in Ghana is compatible with other sectoral policies that promotes environmental sustainability and the safety of human settlement. Through its decentralized agencies, the government should review and enforce the co-location policy to limit the proliferation of telecommunication masts in the cityscape.","PeriodicalId":90388,"journal":{"name":"Urban, planning and transport research","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88804896","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Ethiopia has taken on this challenge through its Integrated Housing Development Program (IHDP), a policy that incorporates slum clearance and resettlement through a government-led development of condominium housing targeting those displaced and other low- and middle-income households. However, construction of most condominiums has taken place at large-scale conglomerations on periphery of the city considered peri-urban. These sites are far from the city center where slum clearance took place and where most social and economic activity continue to be concentrated. Utilizing a survey instrument, this study examines the mediating effect of IHDP residents’ perception of access to public, urban facilities, and transportation condition, two dimensions of spatial equity. The analysis found that those living at peri-urban IHDP sites perceive lower levels of spatial equity compared to urban IHDP condominium residents. Moreover, peri-urban residents’ perception of spatial equity is a statistically significant mediating factor on the relationship between their location and lower levels of overall satisfaction living at their IHDP condominiums.","PeriodicalId":90388,"journal":{"name":"Urban, planning and transport research","volume":"255 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73119044","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

RAP was collected from the 5-year-old pavement and separated into coarse RAP (C-RAP) and fine RAP (F-RAP) aggregates using a 4.75 mm sieve. Asphalt content in the C-RAP and F-RAP was found to be 4.12% and 4.33%, respectively. The C-RAP was immersed in the toluene solvent for a different predetermined time and asphalt content was reduced to 3.05%, 2.12%, and 1.24%. Using this exercise, C-RAP containing four different percentages of asphalt (4.12, 3.05, 2.12, and 1.24%) was produced. Then, the cement concrete mixes were prepared in the laboratory by replacing Natural Coarse Aggregate (NCA) with C-RAP varying from 25% to 100% with an increment of 25% in each type. Manufactured Sand (M-Sand)/Crushed Stone Sand (CSS) was used as a fine aggregate. Altogether, 17 concrete mixes (one control and 16 mixes containing C-RAP) were produced while keeping the water–cement ratio unchanged in all the mixes and evaluated their fresh and hardened concrete properties. As the asphalt presence in the RAP is sensitive to the temperature, the strength of concrete containing RAP at different temperatures was also examined. The current study showed that the amount of NCA substituted by C-RAP and the quantity of asphalt present in the C-RAP influenced the properties of concrete. The study also established that NCA up to 100% could be replaced with the C-RAP containing low asphalt content. Using test results, empirical models were developed to estimate the properties of hardened concrete by considering the percentage of C-RAP, percentage of asphalt in C-RAP, and compressive strength of concrete as predictor variables. The developed models were found statistically significant, supported by .","PeriodicalId":90388,"journal":{"name":"Urban, planning and transport research","volume":"39 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84432808","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, power relations and the resulting dominance of selected actors complicate collaborative processes and the necessary integration between transportation and urban planning. Despite the previous problematization of power in planning, dedicated research is lacking on station districts. This article aims to tackle this literature gap through qualitative case studies of two station districts in Switzerland. The findings suggest that municipalities and public transport providers use power resources to assume institutional roles outside their traditional planning domains, partly as a tactical response to initiatives that they contest. For planning practice, the article proposes that process organizers grasp actors’ power potentials early and, if mobilized, integrate them in favor of broadly supported station district development.","PeriodicalId":90388,"journal":{"name":"Urban, planning and transport research","volume":"412 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84886925","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Human behavior is one key factor that needs to be considered to find solutions to these complex problems. Working in an interdisciplinary field requires scientists to engage in tedious studies of disciplines that are beyond their core expertise. This is also true for the selection of behavioral science approaches best suitable for the research question at hand. To provide a concise introduction to behavioral science, this article provides four clusters of behavioral science approaches. These four clusters, in conjunction with the further developed 4 DBC framework, can assist the analyst in systematically selecting the most suitable behavioral science approach. To illustrate the application of the framework, the examples of cycling and Practice Theory are used.","PeriodicalId":90388,"journal":{"name":"Urban, planning and transport research","volume":"11 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"91362437","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Three on-line surveys of 3,000 members of the public in total, which were conducted in January 2017 (Japan), March 2018 (UK) and November/December 2018 (Germany) were analysed using Principal Component Analysis and then with an Ordered Logit Model. It finds that acceptance of AVs was higher amongst people with higher expectations of the benefits of AVs, those with less knowledge of AVs, and those with lower perceptions of risk. It also finds frequent drivers and car passengers to be more accepting, but that socio-economic factors were mostly insignificant. Finally, there were significant cultural differences between the levels of acceptance between Japan (broadly positive), the UK (broadly neutral) and Germany (broadly negative). These findings suggest that AV promoters should raise (or at least maintain) expectations of AVs among the public; engage with the public to reverse the negative perception of AVs; address AV-generated fears; not bother targeting people by socio-economic group; target frequent car drivers and passengers with information about what AVs could do for them; and target countries where AVs already enjoy a positive image.","PeriodicalId":90388,"journal":{"name":"Urban, planning and transport research","volume":"118 1","pages":"514 - 535"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85554141","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This hydro-meteorological disaster (HMD) is continuing at different levels and turns extreme during monsoon period. This study assesses the bank line erosion of Charbhadrasan Upazila since 1988–2013. This upazila is highly susceptible to riverbank erosion due to uneven sand bar formation in the Padma River adjacent to this upazila, channel shifting and loose materials formation. This empirical study is composed of both primary and secondary data. Sixty-six villages of this upazila were eroded through Padma Riverbank erosion at different years beginning from 1988 to 2013. 1988, 1998 and 2004 floods were the most devastating floods in the study area in terms of bank slumping and erosion. Considering this concerning issue, some sorts of possible preventive measures are suggested to protect bank line erosion of Charbhadrasan Upazila. Insignificant preventive measures regarding bank erosion control are present sparsely but are not enough for sustainable bank line protection.","PeriodicalId":90388,"journal":{"name":"Urban, planning and transport research","volume":"65 1","pages":"502 - 513"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84466365","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study highlights the priority features that demand immediate attention in service supply and assesses users’ levels of satisfaction. A questionnaire was used to gather information from 500 respondents, and models for Factor Analysis, Customer Satisfaction Index and Importance Performance Analysis were used to assess the data. According to the results, clients were quietly satisfied with the service they received in 55% of cases. It suggests that the city’s transit system needs immediate attention if it wants to increase passenger satisfaction ratings above the existing level. Nine service quality attributes were identified by IPA’s analysis as belonging to quadrant one, which is a quadrant with high importance but low performance. As a result, the study recommends transit service providers, local governments, and other interested parties concentrate and allocate their resources on enhancing transit services that emphasize the qualities found in the first quadrant.","PeriodicalId":90388,"journal":{"name":"Urban, planning and transport research","volume":"71 1","pages":"483 - 501"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85003248","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
