While performing the activities in the field, one perceives differences of behaviors and of knowledge among the apprentices. At this point, ubiquitous computing tools can extend the benefits to learning by considering the context in which the learner is. However, the design of Ubiquitous Learning Environments (U-Learning), which meets all these innovative features of continuous mobility, is not a simple task due to the peculiar characteristics of the supporting devices: heterogeneity, limited battery, scarce computational resources, among others. This work presents a set of recommendations for strategies for meaningful learning in a U-learning environment, arising from needs identified through a ubiquitous learning platform, through an experiment carried out at a Federal Institution in the Northeast of Brazil culminating in the proposal of recommendations of improvements in learning activities that allow greater assistance to the learner through the environment and to the teacher, favoring the characteristics for meaningful ubiquitous learning.","PeriodicalId":90007,"journal":{"name":"Literacy information and computer education journal","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43445118","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To understand these students’ academic challenges and their educational needs, a qualitative research study was conducted grounded a naturalistic inquiry approach. Individual in-depth interviews were the main sources of data, and language and academic performance records were collected to examine programs and services participants had received. Findings revealed that participants’ academic struggles were associated with their limited learning opportunities over years of previous schooling. The results suggest a critical need of adequate programs and services to address these students’ significant academic gaps.","PeriodicalId":90007,"journal":{"name":"Literacy information and computer education journal","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48174077","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In education, the application of active methodologies has been successful, especially in spreading computing concepts. With the perspective of blended learning in mind, this article shows the results of an experiment by Computing Licentiate students in a class taught to high school students at a public school in Recife. Gamification was used as a pedagogical tool and data was collected during the process to help investigate the impacts of using the proposed techniques in the teaching of programming for digital games.","PeriodicalId":90007,"journal":{"name":"Literacy information and computer education journal","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67675685","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nevertheless, the reasons behind it continue to be obscure. Available statistical findings do not provide a very clear picture of the scale and nature of plagiarism; neither do they clarify the extent to which this phenomenon is changing through time or is different from country to country, from subject to subject, or among undergraduate and graduate students. Accordingly, the present study was carried out to investigate EFL University professors’ and students’ perceptions of the nature and causes of plagiarism. The participants consisted of 20 EFL university professors and 40 university students studying TEFL at MA and PhD levels. Their responses to a 30-item Likert-Scale questionnaire demonstrated that both groups were equally aware of the nature of plagiarism and the related ethical issues, while the students had considerably different standpoints regarding the excuses and punishments for plagiarism.","PeriodicalId":90007,"journal":{"name":"Literacy information and computer education journal","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67675651","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study population comprised all the lecturers in Southwest Nigerian Universities from which a sample of 500 academic staff members was drawn from 5 Universities using simple random and stratified sampling techniques. A self-designed instrument tagged “Academic Staff Training and the Challenges of Accessing TETFund Questionnaire.” (ASTCATQ) was used to gather information from the respondents. The instrument was validated with a reliability coefficient of 0.75. The research question was answered with mean and standard deviation while the hypotheses were tested with ANOVA at 0.05 level of significance. The study revealed that there were many challenges inherent in accessing TETFund by members of the academic staff. A significant difference in the academic staff perception of the challenges of accessing TETFund for their training on the basis of their status was reported in the study. The study however revealed that there was no significant difference in the perception of the challenges involved in accessing TETFund for academic staff training based on their administrative experience. It was concluded on the basis of the findings of the study that the challenges inherent in accessing TETFund play a major role in hindering academic staff training in Southwest Nigerian Universities. It was therefore recommended that government and University management should endeavour to reduce the various challenges involved in accessing TETFund for academic staff training to the barest minimum.","PeriodicalId":90007,"journal":{"name":"Literacy information and computer education journal","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67675696","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This one is composed by 04 (four) steps: Exploration, Creation. Reflection and Implementation. In the Exploration stage, the entire process had 72 teachers and tutors from different Universities and Federal Institutes in Brazil. At the Creation stage, online questionnaires were used with these participants to understand their perceptions about what informal learning resources are used by learners. The stages of Reflection and Implementation allowed to establish functional requirements for the development of the service, and also allowed to generate the prototypes for the proposed service. The service was evaluated by 6 experts who produced new evidences to improve service development and the next steps of the research are focused on the possibilities and restrictions to integrate it with the different LMS environments and define what development architecture will be used.","PeriodicalId":90007,"journal":{"name":"Literacy information and computer education journal","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49097047","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Identity is relocation from private and cognitive experience to public and other semiotic experience which is discursive system of meaning making. Therefore, it is argued that identity can be found in discourse that entails power and directs individuals. Marx also proposed that identity shapes through the authoritative voice that language carries. On the other hand, Foucault posited the arrangement and practices of social discourse since discourse–based approach indicates identity as a dynamic process that can reproduce or destabilize discursive order. Thus, systematic discourse analysis offers powerful and systematic structures of ideologies although general properties of language and identity are not marked.","PeriodicalId":90007,"journal":{"name":"Literacy information and computer education journal","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49463390","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The role of a teacher or a mentor is not only to provide the basic fundamental education of a selected area of study but to see it grow in a student in terms of acquiring the knowledge and mastering the skills to enhance proficiency in the allotted subject. The commitment and involvement here is a spiritual transaction varying from student to student where the extension of a teacher’s role is beyond the formal and the number of years dedicated till graduation level of study. The most essential extension is the period when the formal education ends, and the practical implementation of the skill acquired is required to perform. It is from its first performing phase till the level of seeing the student rise to his utmost successful phase of performance. This is what has been a traditional (Parampara) practice past 5000 years and has seen its reflection in different countries in different forms. The question here arises of how effective it has been previously and its relevance and importance in the current century especially comparing the volume of difference in the social environment 5000 years ago till date. Practiced by the author here, this tradition of the ‘Guru-shishya parampara’ has worked wonders if freedom and restraint of a teacher’s intervention and a student’s commitment is defined appropriately.","PeriodicalId":90007,"journal":{"name":"Literacy information and computer education journal","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48862700","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Monomodality is based on the standardized native-speaker norm representing the monolingual view while multimodality focuses on pragmatism and pluralism. There has been a debate over the issue--which norm is useful to international students at the university level. “Glocalization” (i.e., integrating globalization with localization, or incorporating the English teaching with local cultures and values) is recommended as future writing communities become more diverse and multiple norms need to interplay with one another across various cultures. The paper concludes with “worldliness of English” and advocates the renovation of English by adjusting the English teaching to local cultures in a more inclusive, ethical, and democratic way.","PeriodicalId":90007,"journal":{"name":"Literacy information and computer education journal","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44208439","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
