All but single-seed-weight character were statistically correlated with total-seed-weight-per-plant character. However, only pod-numbers-per-plant, and seed-numbers-per-plant characters had the highest correlation coefficients with total-seeds-weight-per-plant character having r ’s of 0.939 and 0.927, respectively. In addition, both characters had the highest narrow-sense heritability of 0.72 and 0.74, respectively. Therefore, these two characters should be employed in the vegetable soybean breeding program for high yield.","PeriodicalId":89652,"journal":{"name":"Advances in genomics and genetics","volume":"375 1","pages":"106-114"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-04-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77987379","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nees is a medicinal plant widely used in Thailand and some other countries for therapeutic valued, but the lack of their genetic information may cause confusion in its utilization. The Randomly Amplified Polymorphic DNA (RAPD) markers were used to identify and elucidate the phylogenetic relationships among 58 accessions of A. paniculata collected throughout Thailand. Of thirty random primers tested, only eight primers generated a total of 66 bands, of which 26 bands were polymorphic, with an average of 10.5 bands per primer pair. Polymorphic information content (PIC) ranging from 0.034 to 0.405 with an average of 0.172 and 77.59% of A. paniculata accessions showed low PIC scores in a range between 0.00-0.068, indicating low diversity in these accessions. An effective number of allele per locus ( n e ) as 1.018 and very low expected heterozygosity ( H e ), with 0.21 were detected. Genetic similarities of 66 RAPD profiles were estimated via the Jaccard’s coefficient and then the data were processed using UPGMA clustering method. The phylogenetic tree derived from RAPD data revealed that A. paniculata were divided into only one group in which the high similarity values were between 0.81-1.00. The results obtained can be indicated that the distributions of A. paniculata among each region are likely to belong to the same variety and are relatively undifferentiated across a large geographic range.","PeriodicalId":89652,"journal":{"name":"Advances in genomics and genetics","volume":"53 1","pages":"115-125"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-04-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74024953","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A total of 564 DNA bands were generated and used for cluster analysis. Using UPGMA method, R. communis was clearly separated from Jatropha spp, as well as separated the Jatropha spp. into two groups. The first group comprised of J. curcas , J. integerrima and J. podagrica , whereas the second group consisted of J. multifida and J. gossypifolia . The interspecific hybridization was carried out between J. curcas and other Jatropha species. The results showed that cross between J. curcas and J. integerrima was the most successful. However, some hybrids were also obtained from J. curcas x J. podagrica and J. curcas x J. multifida . The observed ratio of female and male flowers of hybrids from J. curcas and J. integerrima were 1:9.1 to 1:14.9 which fall between two parents. Percentage of methylation in all hybrid derived from J. curcas x J. integerrima was lower than that of the parents. Principal component analysis of methylation fingerprints revealed that the pattern of DNA methylation in all hybrids from J. curcas x J. integerrima was more similar to J. curcas than J. integerrima. Meiotic cells of the hybrids from J. curcas x J. integerrima, J. curcas x J. podagrica and J. curcas x J. multifida were also studied. Majority of the cells investigated were normal. However, some abnormal tetrads were observed in some cells of hybrids.","PeriodicalId":89652,"journal":{"name":"Advances in genomics and genetics","volume":"62 1","pages":"94-105"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-04-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76156764","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Each histotype has a distinct natural history, clinical behavior, and genetic etiology. Endometrioid ECs have an overall favorable prognosis. They are typified by high frequency genomic alterations affecting PIK3CA, PIK3R1, PTEN, KRAS, FGFR2, ARID1A (BAF250a), and CTNNB1 (β-catenin), as well as epigenetic silencing of MLH1 resulting in microsatellite instability. Serous and clear cell ECs are clinically aggressive tumors that are rare at presentation but account for a disproportionate fraction of all endometrial cancer deaths. Serous ECs tend to be aneuploid and are typified by frequent genomic alterations affecting TP53 (p53), PPP2R1A, HER-2/ERBB2, PIK3CA, and PTEN; additionally, they display dysregulation of E-cadherin, p16, cyclin E, and BAF250a. The genetic etiology of clear cell ECs resembles that of serous ECs, but it remains relatively poorly defined. A detailed discussion of the characteristic patterns of genomic alterations that distinguish the three major histotypes of endometrial cancer is reviewed herein.</p>","PeriodicalId":89652,"journal":{"name":"Advances in genomics and genetics","volume":"2012 2","pages":"33-47"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3415201/pdf/nihms384557.pdf","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"30830051","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This complex developmental process comprises of several stages. The establishment of leaf polarity along the adaxial (doral)-abaxial (ventral) axis occurs in young leaf primordia and is critically required for subsequent leaf blade expansion. This polar patterning results in distinct anatomical and morphological structures between the upper and the lower sides of the leaf. The first recognition of leaf polarity began with a classical microsurgical study on potato shoot tips over 50 years ago. Subsequently, important leaf polarity regulators have been identified through genetic and molecular studies. This review is mainly focused on characterization of Arabidopsis key determinants that regulate leaf polarity establishment at various levels including transcription, post-transcription, translation and post-translation. Recent development in leaf polarity study is also provided.","PeriodicalId":89652,"journal":{"name":"Advances in genomics and genetics","volume":"5 1","pages":"21-33"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79513100","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Val-9Ala polymorphisms in MTS-MnSOD gene of 221 healthy Thais including 135 females and 86 males were genotyped by a real-time PCR using protocol and all reagents of TaqMan Allelic Discrimination Demonstration Kit (PE Applied Biosystem, USA). The SOD activity of whole blood cells and plasma total antioxidant status (TAS) of each subject were assayed manually using protocol and all reagents of RANSOD and TAS kits (Randox Laboratories,UK) respectively.  The Val/Val, Val/Ala genotypes and the Val allele frequency were found to be predominant rather than the Ala/Ala genotype and the Ala allele frequency in healthy Thai subjects both females and males similar to those previous reports of healthy Chinese, Japanese and Korean subjects. The average values of SOD activity and TAS level in healthy Thais were 2,129.±778 U/g Hb and 1.27±0.26 mmol/L respectively. The association of each genotype with SOD activity as well as TAS levels of Thai females and males showed that  the average values of SOD activity and TAS in healthy Thais with the Val/Val and the Val/Ala genotypes were not statistically different (p>0.05) and not lower than those of the Ala/Ala genotypes.  In conclusion, the predominant genotypes were the Val/Val and the Val/Ala and they were not associated with low levels of SOD and TAS.","PeriodicalId":89652,"journal":{"name":"Advances in genomics and genetics","volume":"30 1","pages":"89-103"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79683818","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, ethanol production atpresent uses sugar feedstock substrate from sugarcane and starch from cassava. These substrates arefood resources for human and animals thus are notappropriate substrates for liquid fuel production. Forthis reason, cellulosic biomass from cellulose andhemicellulose is an alternative option for liquid fuelproduction to overcome competitive problems onfood cultivated area. However, higher cost ofcellulosic ethanol production than petroleum fuels is an important issue that has an impact on liquid fuelmanufacture. In this review, useful strategies forcellulosic ethanol process improvement aredescribed in order to create potent alternative energywith economically and commercially acceptableprofit. The strategies can be divided into three parts:first, production of hydrolysis enzyme by plant;second, pretreatment of biomass by controllinglignin and cellulose property; and third, increasingpolysaccharide amount in biomass for ethanolfermentation. In sumary, all strategies will beenhanced together to access the goal to develop theuse of cellulosic ethanol in the near future.","PeriodicalId":89652,"journal":{"name":"Advances in genomics and genetics","volume":"76 1","pages":"1-8"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"91222015","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
