Methods: 76 Patients were selected by sampling. Visual acuity was evaluated by Snellen chart at a distance of 6 meters with good light and single eye. Accordingly, logarithm of Minimum Angle of Resolution (MAR) was recorded. Avastin (1.25 mg) in 0.05 ml of liquid was injected with a sterile syringe and needle. Second and third injections were repeated one month after the first injection. Results: The results of Visual acuity (VA) in the patients (In log MAR): Mean ± SD of visual acuity (VA) in patients before the study was 0.906 ± 0.080, One month after injection was 0.818 ± 0.097, 3 months after injection was 0.6 ± 0.126 and 6 months after injection was 0.488 ± 0.164. Conclusion: Intravitreal avastin (1.25 mg) is well tolerated and associated with improvement in VA and decreased retinal thickness by OCT and also reducing angiographic leakage in most of the patients. Decreasing BFVs in all retrobulbar arteries, suggests that avastin exerts a short‐term regional effect.","PeriodicalId":89642,"journal":{"name":"Translational biomedicine","volume":"11 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"69700645","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While sharing the same basic properties, there are however differences in their proliferative capacity, degree of potency and level of multipotent marker expression and immunosuppression ability. As the cell media industry continues to develop effective serum-free cell culture media, an understanding of the potential effect on MSCs profile and functionality is needed. Methods and Findings: MSCs derived from adipose tissue, bone marrow and umbilical cord were grown in FBS containing media, or a newly-developed XSFM and characterized by flow cytometry, immunomodulation and differentiation assays. In this study we have found that each source of MSCs had a different cell expansion profile, but cells grown in XSFM reach higher cumulative cell numbers. No significant difference was noted in the expression profile of CD45, CD105 and CD90 and cells retained their differentiation and their immunomodulatory potential. BM-derived MCSs had a relatively weaker immunomodulatory potential, but this could be improved when cells were cultured in XSFM. Conclusion: In conclusion, the developed XSFM for human MSCs provides a superior alternative for clinical applications with multiple cell origins, by eliminating the drawbacks of sera usage, while leading to higher cumulative cell numbers and maintaining the cell characteristics.","PeriodicalId":89642,"journal":{"name":"Translational biomedicine","volume":"9 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.21767/2172-0479.100146","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"68106232","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The best inflammatory markers or indices can be identified by retrospective analysis the associations of inflammatory indices in completed blood count and short-term prognosis in ACOP patients and the indices can be used to guide in clinical diagnosis and treatment. Method: There were 256 ACOP patients who admitted into No. 123 Hospital from Jan 2008 to Dec 2017 were enrolled into this study. According to the health condition of ACOP patients after 2 months, the patients were divided into poor (n=21) and good (n=235) prognosis groups. The inflammatory indices, age, Glasgow coma scale (GCS) and other parameters were compared between the groups. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were used to evaluate the predictive values of various indicators towards prognosis of patients with ACOP. Results: The count of white blood cells, neutrophil, red blood cell distribution width, age and hypertension morbidity rate were significantly higher in poor prognosis group than that of the good prognosis group while the GCS was significant lower in the poor prognosis group compared to the good prognosis group. Multifactor analysis showed that neutrophil, age and GCS were risk factors for poor prognosis in patients with ACOP. Thus the results of combination of neutrophil count with age and GSC can be best in predicting the prognosis of ACOP. Conclusion: Neutrophil count is the indicator in predicting the short-term prognosis of ACOP and its predictive value can be increased by combining the parameters like age and GCS.","PeriodicalId":89642,"journal":{"name":"Translational biomedicine","volume":"09 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"68107629","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of a simulationbased obstetric educational intervention in the learning of skills related to birthing care in medical students in Medellin (Colombia). Methods: A randomized experimental study of 28 students who received the intervention and 21 students who did not receive the intervention and served as the control group. A scale was constructed and psychometrically evaluated to measure competencies in three domains, Being, Knowing, and Doing, in birthing care; this scale was applied before and after the intervention, generating a rating between 0 (poorest) and 100 (best). The effectiveness of the educational intervention was evaluated using differences-indifferences and linear regression analysis. Results: The scale showed excellent psychometric properties in the domains of knowing and doing, with Cronbach’s α-value greater than 0.80; furthermore, 100% success in internal consistency, discriminant power, and content validity added to the high explained variance. The intervention did not generate significant changes in the competency in the being domain and was effective in improving competencies in the Knowing and Doing domains, with increases of 23.9 and 27.2 points, respectively. Conclusion: The simulation-based birth-related skills learning programme was effective in increasing the competencies of knowing and doing in medical students.","PeriodicalId":89642,"journal":{"name":"Translational biomedicine","volume":"9 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.21767/2172-0479.100152","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"68107507","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Study question: Our purpose is to improve survival, objective response and quality of life with a non-toxic biological therapy. Study design: The DBM (Di Bella Method) with MLT (Melatonin), Retinoids, solubilized in vitamin E, D3, and C, Folates, proteoglycans and calcium, has a differentiating, cytostatic, anti-angiogenic, immune-modulating, factorially synergic effect, simultaneously reinforcing the functions which physiology considers to be essential for life. With Somatostatin/Octreotide, prolactin and estrogen inhibitors, DBM has an antiproliferative, antiangiogenic and antimetastatic effect. These molecules govern negatively pituitary secretions like GH-PRL, whose mitogenic properties are enhanced by the combination of ovarian hormones such as estrogen. The negative regulation of GH extends to IGF-1, EGF (Epidermal Growth Factor), VEGF (Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor), and GHdependent growth factors. The DBM (Di Bella Method) uses minimal metronomic apoptotic, non-cytotoxic and non-mutagenic doses of cyclophosphamide. The tolerability of which is enhanced by MLT and by the vitamins included in the DBM. We report a retrospective observational study with 5-year follow-up, carried out on 297 patients affected by breast cancer and treated with the Di Bella Method biological therapy. Results and conclusion: complete and stable objective responses without cytolytic chemotherapy, in some cases even without surgery or radiotherapy, with a generalized improvement in quality of life and no significant and/or prolonged toxicity. By using complementary therapies such as aromatherapy, hypnosis, music therapy, acupressure, TENS is considered as nurses’ serious tasks and has special importance in pain controlling of patients. This study was accomplished to consider the effect of electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) through skin during replacing the wound dressing in hospitalized burn patients in burn ward of Sabzevar Vasee hospital. Materials and methods: This is a clinical trial study performed on 40 hospitalized burn patients of Sabzevar Vasee hospital in 2014. The patients were divided randomly into two groups, including control category (20 individuals) and case one (20 individuals). Before changing the wound dressing, morphine was injected to the patient, and in the second days after referral, the members of control group received placebo TENS with morphine, and TENS was received in the members of test group while replacing the dressing. Finally, after replacing the dressing, the pain of patient was measured according to pain numeric scale 0-10. The data was analyzed with Mann-Whitney tests by SPSS software (ver. 20). The significance level (p-value) in statistical tests used in this study is considered 5%. Results: The average of pain in second day was 7.00 ± 0.56 and 5.00 ± 0.48 in control and test groups, respectively. There was a significant difference in reduction of the pain between two groups (P=0.013). It means that TENS can alleviate the pain 2.3 units more than placebo TENS. Conclusion: Supplementary TENS and morphine are effective in reducing the pain in burn patients during replacing the bandage.","PeriodicalId":89642,"journal":{"name":"Translational biomedicine","volume":"9 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.21767/2172-0479.100142","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"68106398","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
