For analysis purpose, data for 30 major Indian pharmaceutical firms have been culled out from the various reports of the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE) during the period of 1991–2011. The empirical results reveal that the TFPG of the 30 major Indian pharmaceutical firms recorded to be 0.02 per cent and both the technological progress and efficiency change are equally contributing to the TFPG of the firms during entire study and pre-TRIPS period. It has been observed that TFPG has marginally regressed by 0.04 per cent in the post-TRIPS period and the negative growth of the average TFPG was contributed by technical inefficiency, whereas the positive technological progress helps to cover the impact of inefficiencies on TFPG. However, the growth of efficiency remains negative throughout the study period, which has been contributed both by the scale inefficiency and by the pure inefficiency, whereas the technological progress has a favourable impact on the productivity growth of the industry during the post-TRIPS period. Therefore, it can be inferred that the managerial, technical and scale inefficiencies in Indian pharmaceutical industry should be checked in order to operate at optimal scale and achieve potential productivity growth in the post-TRIPS period.","PeriodicalId":89555,"journal":{"name":"Global health governance : the scholarly journal for the new health security paradigm","volume":"22 1","pages":"211 - 228"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87358333","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Examples of this include women academic leaders in India where negative cultural beliefs about women moving to the top-management positions (also referred to as glass ceiling) still exist. Although they are highly educated and competent workers, they have unequal opportunities to be organizational leaders or top executives. Academic women with greater knowledge and abilities can actually perform as academic leaders, and they can support educational development of the country. Government and educational institutions should realize the potential of academic women and provide them with equal opportunities for career advancement in organizations. In order to get a better understanding of glass ceiling of India’s women academic leaders, the concepts and theories related to glass ceiling, particularly in the Asian context, are discussed in this article. It provides a theoretical framework of glass ceiling which is based on two theories of justice, namely Rawlsian theory and utilitarian theory. Educational institutions that more effectively apply the theoretical framework of justice to their management practices are hypothesized to have lesser glass ceiling problems than others.","PeriodicalId":89555,"journal":{"name":"Global health governance : the scholarly journal for the new health security paradigm","volume":"8 1","pages":"21 - 30"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78912617","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Primary data have been collected from selected organized apparel retailers. Statistical tools, exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and structural equation modeling (SEM), were applied. It revealed that Retail Service Quality Scale (RSQS) model in original form is deficient and less appropriate in the Indian context, modified scale (i.e., Apparel Store Service & Product Quality Scale [ASSPQS]) may exhibit strong model fit for apparel retail sector. The findings and recommendations will enable retail stores to gather insights into current levels of service and product quality and may facilitate them in the improvement of certain aspects in service and product quality of the stores.","PeriodicalId":89555,"journal":{"name":"Global health governance : the scholarly journal for the new health security paradigm","volume":"7 1","pages":"52 - 74"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85151335","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this study, the family aspects are investigated to shed more light on spouse attitude towards family decision-making for selection of car and school/college for their ward and assess the impact of attitudinal factor on decision satisfaction. The drop-off/pick-up method was used to collect the data from Northern India. The result reveals that spousal attitude is formed by marital power, assertiveness, subtle manipulation, love, bargaining and being submissive. Results of multiple regression analysis show that subtle manipulation is most and marital power has a negative impact on spouses’ decision satisfaction. Thus, when targeting a family for a significant trades assay, the salesperson should focus on both husband and wife and stimulate a conversation between them to appeal to their conjoint kinship.","PeriodicalId":89555,"journal":{"name":"Global health governance : the scholarly journal for the new health security paradigm","volume":"5 1","pages":"75 - 90"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"72969727","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are many small and micro entrepreneurs who have started their business with funding support from microfinance agencies. Though this increased funding resource has increased the number of businesses that are started by entrepreneurs in rural areas, another important fact is that all these new businesses are not necessarily successful. In Malwa region of Madhya Pradesh (MP), only 20 per cent of businesses funded by microfinance agencies are profitable. There are multiple reasons behind this lack of success of microenterprises. There are paucity of information in selection of right opportunity, absence of technical assistance, lack of business knowledge and marketing and finance skills, which are few of them. This is an alarming sign for funding agencies as higher failure rate of microenterprises bound to jeopardize, the sustainability of the microfinance in long term and retard the development of region. This research conducted on microenterprises of Malwa region of MP tries to identify the specific training needs of microfinance clients. Further, this research tries to evaluate empirically what are the potential and sustainable microbusiness opportunities, which can be started and run by people of disadvantage groups. Empirical findings through a survey designed on a sample of 54 microenterprises of eight villages of Malwa region show that any microbusiness having higher ratio of working capital to fixed capital investment are successful in Malwa region. Also, it is found that the most important training need of these enterprises is in the field of ‘managing finance’ for small business.","PeriodicalId":89555,"journal":{"name":"Global health governance : the scholarly journal for the new health security paradigm","volume":"37 1","pages":"105 - 91"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78894945","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The present study aims to bridge this gap not only by empirically analysing the dynamic capabilities of Indian multinationals but also by comparing the level of deployment of dynamic capabilities in Indian-origin multinational corporations (MNCs) vis-à-vis the foreign-origin MNCs operating in India. Moreover, as there is no consensus among researchers on the relationship between dynamic capabilities and competitive advantage, this relationship is put to test in the present study, and its wider applicability is checked in Indian and foreign-based MNCs. The study also analyses the effect of company’s country-of-origin on its competitiveness. Furthermore, individual capabilities of the organizations under study are analysed and strategies to enhance the competitiveness of each organization are thereby suggested.","PeriodicalId":89555,"journal":{"name":"Global health governance : the scholarly journal for the new health security paradigm","volume":"57 1","pages":"31 - 51"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84545475","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, research has revealed that SMEs in Sri Lanka suffer from poor sustainability and low performance compared to other countries. According to the literature, SME performance is associated with directly unobservable owner and firm factors which are based on internal capabilities. With the ever-increasing dynamism of the market and increased competition from large multinational companies, it is essential for the SMEs to adapt to the environment promptly. Dynamic capabilities of export SMEs must be more amplified and leveraged than those of a firm with a less ambitious, purely domestic SMEs. Given the strong position of entrepreneur in the SME context, this study argues that antecedents to dynamic capabilities can be found at the individual entrepreneur level. It identifies entrepreneurial orientation, human capital and social capital of the entrepreneur as key characteristics at the individual level. This research used a quantitative research methodology and a randomly selected sample of 197 export SMEs in Sri Lanka were analyzed. The results were analyzed using partial least squares–structured equation modelling (PLS–SEM). This study empirically established that entrepreneur characteristics positively influence development of organizational dynamic capabilities. The outcome of this research will enhance the understanding of SME capability development process.","PeriodicalId":89555,"journal":{"name":"Global health governance : the scholarly journal for the new health security paradigm","volume":"8 1","pages":"113 - 130"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88860515","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This article examines a potential source of CMV—socially desirable responding (SDR)—in the context of Indian culture. The statistical remedies of method variance have been critically evaluated for their suitability to capture SDR. The statistical remedy of ‘controlling for the effect of a directly measured latent method factor’ using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) has been profoundly explained. The procedural guidelines on executing CFA using AMOS have been delineated to facilitate substantive research vulnerable to method variance.","PeriodicalId":89555,"journal":{"name":"Global health governance : the scholarly journal for the new health security paradigm","volume":"21 1","pages":"112 - 97"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88522009","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
