By recounting and reflecting on this experiment, the author argues that the inter-disciplinary dialogue at the heart of practical theology requires the modelling of a critical conversation in which the sub-disciplines of theology are fully operative. This is most likely to be a team approach. He also suggests some further implications of the experiment for teaching, learning and assessment in practical theology.","PeriodicalId":87951,"journal":{"name":"Contact","volume":"31 9","pages":"42 - 49"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"72613491","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, pastoral care and pastoral theology have mostly ignored the artifactual dimensions of human existence. This paper explores the significance of artefacts for humans, and the kinds of relationships they have with them. It is argued that a full vision of pastoral care needs to include some positive acknowledgement of artifactual effects and relationships. Some preliminary suggestions for taking artefacts more seriously in pastoral care and theology are then advanced.","PeriodicalId":87951,"journal":{"name":"Contact","volume":"60 1","pages":"14 - 6"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87043056","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Reflection is related to an understanding of reflexivity which is not solely personal, but also institutional and social. This insight is pursued through an exploration of Graham, Walton and Ward's book Theological Reflection: Methods, where Giddens' reflexivity can be found to relate to the methods explored. This is seen in three key areas: the different scales of social life; the process of bringing into consciousness; and tradition.","PeriodicalId":87951,"journal":{"name":"Contact","volume":"35 1","pages":"22 - 31"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81688734","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
