By analyzing qualitative data collected from 15 working Vietnamese mothers selected by applying the snowball sampling method, this study shows that the work and childcare role conflicts among Vietnamese women are manifested in three aspects: (1) the lack of time to fulfill expected roles, leading to (2) the state of role strain that is, in turn, considered as the cause of (3) the emergence of inappropriate behaviors with corresponding roles. The findings also reveal that accepting role conflicts as temporary difficulties is one of the solutions for women to overcome hardships during the period of social distancing. In addition, working mothers resolve disputes through their efforts without the demand for reassigning responsibilities in the family to distribute house chores equally to their husbands.","PeriodicalId":85846,"journal":{"name":"Warasan prachakon lae sangkhom = Journal of population and social studies","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-02-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44207319","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is important to understand the well-being of older people to prepare policies that can ensure an adequate quality of life. Understanding the heterogeneity of a population is needed to guarantee that individual development is equitable. Years of Good Life (YoGL) is a novel indicator of well-being comprised of measures of good physical and cognitive health, being out of poverty, and being satisfied with life. Various measures were tested to determine which indicators best fit the stated dimensions of YoGL. Using the 2018 Longitudinal Study on Ageing and Health in the Philippines, observations show men aged 60 have a life expectancy of about 17 years, and YoGL was 14 years. Women of the same age have a life expectancy of 19 years, while the YOGL is 16 years. Among men and women aged 70 years, the YoGL was 7.9 and 8.6 years, respectively. Analyses show that for both ages and sexes, physical health was the dimension that decreased the number of good years. This study demonstrates the applicability of the YoGL methodology in investigating the well-being of subpopulations.","PeriodicalId":85846,"journal":{"name":"Warasan prachakon lae sangkhom = Journal of population and social studies","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42297540","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While other influencing factors concerning the social support needs of medical students have been studied, the influence of gender in this area is scarce. Therefore, this scoping review mapped out the relevant literature, identified gaps, and suggested the influence of cisgender male and female genders on the perceived social support (PSS) of medical students. This scoping review was guided by the PRISMA-ScR checklist. Rationales and research questions were mapped according to Arksey and O’Malley (2005). The databases PubMed, Wiley Online Library, ERIC, and CNKI, were searched for academic articles published in English and Chinese between November 2011 and November 2021 that met preset criteria. The selection of sources of evidence based on screening and eligibility of evidence reduced the identified 796 sources of evidence in the searched databases to seven sources of evidence. The identified gaps include the lack of in-depth exploration of male and female genders alone as a determinant of PSS, how gender may be used to promote PSS among male medical students and female medical students, how different sociocultural, sociodemographic, and personality influence the PSS of genders among medical students, lack of qualitative research and mixed-methodologies on the subject as well as the use of longitudinal studies and how major areas of research and gender affect the PSS of medical students.","PeriodicalId":85846,"journal":{"name":"Warasan prachakon lae sangkhom = Journal of population and social studies","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43272778","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While multigenerational families have increased and the duration of grandparenting has lengthened, multigenerational households have declined. Grandparents are increasingly embedded in multigenerational support, care, and reciprocal relationships. The paper examines cognitive and affective dimensions of intergenerational solidarity and ambivalence through the lens of grandparenting using qualitative data from the city-state of Singapore. The findings show that grandparents cherish their relationships with their grandchildren. Grandparents phrased their relationships in terms of affection rather than obligation and duties. Also, not co-residing has not weakened the bonds between generations. Another finding is the strong norm among grandparents of not interfering in the lives of their children and grandchildren but being available for them.","PeriodicalId":85846,"journal":{"name":"Warasan prachakon lae sangkhom = Journal of population and social studies","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45526700","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As such, self-efficacy is a vital factor in this adherence process. This systematic review of cross-sectional studies aims to outline and evaluate the characteristics of the literature investigating self-efficacy and adherence to self-care in the type 2 diabetes population. Eleven eligible studies were identified based on the inclusion criteria after conducting a primary and secondary screening of three major databases (ProQuest, Scopus, and EBSCOhost) from inception to April 2022, along with manual searching from other sources. A narrative synthesis was used to analyze this review. The findings indicated that self-efficacy is significantly correlated with self-care adherence in persons with type 2 diabetes and that higher self-efficacy leads to better self-care behaviors. The selected studies failed to fulfill the quality criteria for identifying and measuring the confounding variables; therefore, future studies should focus on rigorous research design. A more sophisticated approach to elucidate phase-specific self-efficacy and its influence on health behavior among the type 2 diabetic population may be required in the future to design and test theoretical frameworks and intervention studies.","PeriodicalId":85846,"journal":{"name":"Warasan prachakon lae sangkhom = Journal of population and social studies","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46724227","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The novelty of this research is to analyze the objects of study from the standpoint of typical regional medical and demographic systems, along with the subsequent typification of administrative units. This approach is due to several factors: the growing rate of migration of Ukrainians to Poland and the similarity of the problems of industrial regions and coastal and mountainous regions. The article presents the results of a comparative geographical study on mortality rates in Poland and Ukraine. The study establishes that the level of mortality is radically different in the two countries. For example, the mortality rate in Poland is 1.4 times lower than in Ukraine. However, Poland is affected by typical problems of European countries, such as an increase in mortality rate from neoplasm and diseases of the digestive and endocrine systems. The leading cause of mortality in Ukraine is cardiovascular diseases, the share of which continues to grow. The highest mortality rates in spatial aspects are recorded in the central and coastal territories of both states, which, together with the analysis of the structure of the leading causes of death according to regions, allow us to remark on similar types of mortality in both states. In accordance, cluster analysis made it possible to identify the high, medium, and low types of mortality structure in both states.","PeriodicalId":85846,"journal":{"name":"Warasan prachakon lae sangkhom = Journal of population and social studies","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43436406","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The PRISMA-ScR checklist by Tricco et al. (2018) guided the scoping review. Ten international databases were searched for academic articles published in English between January 2002 and January 2022. The 12,795 discovered articles were reduced to two sources of evidence. Extracted data were mapped out using a charting table. The analysis revealed a dearth of research on the subject of physical health of family caregivers of older women with breast cancer, a lack of detailed description of the physical health needs of family caregivers of older women with breast cancer, a lack of cultural, geographic, and ethnic diversity, a lack of studies on the physical needs/strains experienced by family caregivers aside from physical activity needs, underutilized research methodologies, gender differences that influence physical health needs of family caregivers, development of research tools, and lack of intervention/educational programs on physical health for family caregivers. Future research directions were suggested, and limitations were presented.","PeriodicalId":85846,"journal":{"name":"Warasan prachakon lae sangkhom = Journal of population and social studies","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46800680","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The advancements in transportation and communication technologies have changed trans-border mobility from permanent to a large extent, circular. Interestingly, the wage gap between labor-sending and labor-receiving countries is not the only reason triggering the move. Working abroad has become a decision made by Cambodian households, resulting in about one million Cambodian migrant workers in Thailand. Migrant workers, especially undocumented laborers, are more vulnerable to abuse, exploitation, and trafficking. In response, this irregularity facilitates the circularity of these migrant workers. To explore this phenomenon, this paper attempts to construct the typology of circular migration, namely quasi-permanent migration, sojourning, and return. Qualitative methods consisting of group and individual interviews were employed in interviewing Cambodian workers in Rayong, Thailand, and returnees in Kampong Cham, Cambodia. The findings suggest that land-owning Cambodian households adopt a householding strategy, work in Thailand, and migrate circularly back home periodically.","PeriodicalId":85846,"journal":{"name":"Warasan prachakon lae sangkhom = Journal of population and social studies","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47497147","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Various precautions were taken to suppress the spread of this virus, one of which was conducting prevention behavior in communities. This study aims to evaluate the adherence to COVID-19 prevention behavior associated with sociodemographic and psychological aspects. This cross-sectional study was conducted online from September 28 to October 9, 2020, with respondents from Bogor’s Cohort Noncommunicable Disease Risk Factor study. Data were obtained from 1,736 respondents using the Indonesian Self-Report Questionnaire-20 (SRQ-20). The study used multiple logistic regression to analyze the data. If the result of the SRQ-20 was ≥ 6, it was categorized as a common mental disorder. As such, prevention behavior was found to be higher in individuals who did not experience common mental disorders (AOR = 1.8; 95% CI [1.1, 2.8]). Adherence was also discovered in people who were over 55 years old and educated above junior high school (AOR = 1.5; 95% CI [1.1, 2.3]), married women (AOR = 1.4; 95% CI [1.1, 1.8]), and workers who work more at home (AOR = 3.3; 95% CI [2.3, 5.0]).","PeriodicalId":85846,"journal":{"name":"Warasan prachakon lae sangkhom = Journal of population and social studies","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45629469","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

According to the theoretical part, we determined that the scale of emigration decreases with an increase in GDP per capita. However, with a sharp increase in GDP at the turn of the 2000s, the emigration from Russia to the selected countries has only increased in what can be considered a phenomenon. Following the theoretical framework, we have determined that this process can be facilitated by some extra variable, which in our case is political freedom. To visualize the process, we observe the indicator of freedom of expression, which moderately declined from 1999 to 2016. As a result of the comparative analysis of migration, economic and political data from OECD, Eurostat, and V-Dem Institute, we determined that due to the deterioration of political freedoms within the country, negative political factors have shifted positive economic growth and affected the increase of emigration scale to the selected European countries.","PeriodicalId":85846,"journal":{"name":"Warasan prachakon lae sangkhom = Journal of population and social studies","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46128241","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
