The empirical results based on non-parametric and parametric techniques demonstrate the declining inequality of opportunity in the overall inequality from 2006 to 2017. The lower bound estimation of inequality of opportunity caused by external factors beyond an individual’s control (i.e., circumstances) accounted for 16–17% of overall inequality in 2006, compared with only 11–14% in 2017. Based on our analysis, higher education could be one of the crucial elements in narrowing the differences in individuals’ wealth.","PeriodicalId":85846,"journal":{"name":"Warasan prachakon lae sangkhom = Journal of population and social studies","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47905173","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Having the support of both parents plays a vital role in supporting the sustainability of children’s education. This study aims to analyze the effect of the presence of parents (both parents or one parent) on the probability of schooling sustainability among 7–18-year-old students. This research uses data from SUSENAS 2019 and PODES 2019. The study was carried out using descriptive analysis and binary logistic regression. The results of this study indicate that the presence of both parents has a significant and positive effect on the probability of schooling sustainability for 7–18-year-olds. It is necessary to strive for potent family resilience to achieve the sustainability of schooling for students aged 7–18. These efforts can be made through more intense and comprehensive socialization and outreach on issues relating to family resilience for the whole family. This outcome can be achieved by developing activities that can strengthen the roles of both parents in supporting the sustainability of their children’s schooling, either through financial or social support.","PeriodicalId":85846,"journal":{"name":"Warasan prachakon lae sangkhom = Journal of population and social studies","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46222992","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The existence of equitable distribution channels can substantially diminish these discrepancies. This study examines the inequalities in maternal health care utilization outcomes and the socioeconomic factors that contribute to these inequalities and identifies the delivery channels that can effectively reduce disparities in utilization. The paper employed 2013 and 2018 data from the Nigeria Demographic and Health Surveys. The utilization variables are; at least four antenatal care visits, deliveries by skilled birth attendants, delivery in a health facility, and postnatal care attendance. The degree of socioeconomic disparities in maternal outcomes was evaluated using the Erreygers concentration indices and the slope index of inequality. The decomposition analysis was performed using a TPM model to determine the contribution of various socioeconomic factors to inequality in the utilization outcomes. Findings reveal that disparities in the country's utilization of maternal health care services are prevalent. The community-based health delivery channel is the least inequitable. It can work effectively in mitigating socioeconomic disparities in maternal care uptake. The significant contributors to inequalities in the indicators of maternal healthcare utilization are education and wealth indices.","PeriodicalId":85846,"journal":{"name":"Warasan prachakon lae sangkhom = Journal of population and social studies","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48795408","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nevertheless, this behavior persists in Indonesia, where up to 72% of men smoke in homes despite national intervention efforts to reduce such behavior. This qualitative exploratory research focused on why young Indonesian fathers continue to smoke cigarettes at home despite knowing about the dangers of secondhand smoke by investigating the influence of masculinity on their choices. Thirty young fathers, all active smokers, were recruited for semi-structured in-depth qualitative interviews. The process of coding data from grounded theory was used to interpret collected data, although grounded theory itself was not the theoretical framework used by this research. Findings indicate that smoking is essential to Indonesia’s socially constructed image of masculinity. Toxic masculinity was observed throughout the participants’ smoking trajectory, expressing itself through the stigmatization of non-smokers, display of financial success through expensive cigarettes, and health risk-taking. Low trust in official health messages and the use of neutralization techniques to justify their smoking behavior drive young fathers to continue smoking. Participants appear to have adopted a variation of toxic masculinity by creating strategies to conciliate the role of a caring father and the part of a man who smokes cigarettes. By being able to legitimize their smoking continuation, participants unintentionally maintain the cycle of male smoking in which children witness older men smoking and link tobacco smoking with masculinity.","PeriodicalId":85846,"journal":{"name":"Warasan prachakon lae sangkhom = Journal of population and social studies","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44270290","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The government has been trying to accelerate the reduction of malnutrition by collaborating and coordinating with other government and non-government organizations. However, the prevalence of chronic malnutrition remains high. This study examines the factors that could predict chronic malnutrition among young children using the Myanmar Demographic and Health Survey 2015–2016. Data record forms were used to collect the required information from the original data source. Descriptive statistics, the chi-square test, and logistic regression analysis were applied to analyze the data analysis and to determine the predictive power of independent variables. It was found that breastfeeding, birth weight, and family wealth index were significant predictors of childhood stunting. This study recommends emphasizing low-birth-weight infants to prevent chronic malnutrition and promote breastfeeding for all infants and children in Myanmar. Furthermore, policymakers should try poverty reduction and establish healthcare services that are easily accessible to the public, especially to the poor. Based on the findings of this study, more efforts to set up readily available public health services providing care for pregnant women and promoting breastfeeding would be some better precautions against chronic malnutrition for every child, particularly from developing countries.","PeriodicalId":85846,"journal":{"name":"Warasan prachakon lae sangkhom = Journal of population and social studies","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48255432","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study employed a mixed method approach, beginning with in-depth interviews with 12 migrant garment workers to develop survey instruments, which were then used in a quantitative survey. The survey recruited and interviewed 328 inter-provincial migrant workers working in garment factories using a social mapping sampling method. Multivariable backward stepwise logistic regression analysis was used to investigate factors associated with worker turnover intention. The results show a high prevalence of turnover intention (46.3%) among the survey participants. High psychological demand (OR = 2.5, 95% CI [1.4, 4.4], p < .001), low job control, income dissatisfaction (OR = 3, 95% CI [1.5, 6], p < .01), migration intention (OR = 13, 95% CI [7, 24], p < .001) and male gender (OR = 2.5, 95% CI [1.3, 4.8], p < .01) are factors significantly associated with turnover intention among migrant workers. This study provides a model for understanding migrant laborers’ turnover intentions in the garment industry, as well as critical data for developing needs-based intervention programs for this vulnerable group, such as appropriate resettlement strategies and the creation of a healthy working environment, both of which could play essential roles in the garment industry’s workforce retention.","PeriodicalId":85846,"journal":{"name":"Warasan prachakon lae sangkhom = Journal of population and social studies","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49335012","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We aimed to measure the pooled proportion of COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy in this regard. Research articles published between January 1, 2020, to December 31, 2021, were searched through Medline, PubMed, Cochrane, Google Scholar, and the WHO COVID-19 database. The Joanna Briggs Institute (2014) tool for prevalence studies was used to assess data quality. We performed a meta-regression test and a sensitive analysis among the studies and used the DerSimonian and Laird random-effects model to measure the pooled effect estimates. Subgroup analyses were performed concerning vaccine hesitancy, countries, study population, study level, and the time since the first outbreak of the pandemic. A total of 43 studies out of 598 published articles across the eight countries in South Asia were included. The pooled proportion of COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy was 26.5% (95% CI [22, 31], I2 = 99.59%). Vaccine hesitancy was higher in Afghanistan (37%), Pakistan (33%), and Bangladesh (28.9%); among the general population (29%); at community levels (27.9%); and the duration of time of 1–12 months since the first outbreak in each country (27.5%). Vaccine hesitancy exists in South Asia with different rates among countries, population sub-groups, communities, study- levels, duration of time since the first outbreak, and study population. Therefore, enhancing public awareness of vaccination and vaccine hesitancy is required to prevent future pandemics.","PeriodicalId":85846,"journal":{"name":"Warasan prachakon lae sangkhom = Journal of population and social studies","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42892231","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Hence, this qualitative study aimed to explore the religious moderation factors of multireligious people residing in the Sekaran, Rama Agung, and Cigugur villages of Indonesia and to analyze the people’s most vital factors of religious moderation. Fifteen religious and communal leaders from the three villages were purposively involved as the participants. An interactive model was adopted to analyze the data from interviews and focus group discussions. This study found five factors of religious moderation exhibited by Sekaran people, namely the principle of togetherness, socio-religious traditions, social traditions related to the values of the Indonesian Republic, and family. Rama Agung people showcased three factors: accepting the reality of differences, putting aside exclusivity, and upholding the harmony of life. Cigugur people demonstrated ten factors extending to family, awareness of moderation, mutual respect, tolerance, internalization of multiculturalism, good communication, socio-religious traditions, cultural ties, social relations, and interactions with cultural traditions. Furthermore, three latent and generalizable factors of religious moderation were codified as the strongest. They entailed upholding the principle of togetherness, accepting the reality of differences, and having mutual respect.","PeriodicalId":85846,"journal":{"name":"Warasan prachakon lae sangkhom = Journal of population and social studies","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-02-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44739430","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study aimed to examine the effects of education and mass media on urban and rural women suffering from weight issues and obesity in Bangladesh, a developing country. The data were from the 2017 Demographic and Health Survey conducted in Bangladesh among women aged 15–49. The data were analyzed using the chi-square test and multinomial logistic regression (MLR). The prevalence of obesity and being overweight was higher among urban women (23.4% and 36.7%, respectively) than among rural women (12.5% and 32.7%, respectively). Model 1 provides unadjusted odds ratios (ORs), while Models 2, 3, and 4 provide adjusted ORs obtained by MLR for overweight and obesity. According to Model 4, the ORs for obesity and being overweight among women with higher education were higher in urban areas (OR = 3.65 and 1.93, respectively) than in rural areas (OR = 2.14 and 1.58, respectively). The corresponding ORs for women exposed to mass media were 1.78 and 1.17 in urban areas and 1.65 and 1.30 in rural areas. Women with higher education levels and exposure to mass media have a higher risk of being overweight and obese. Appropriate health promotion interventions based on education and mass media should work to reduce this problem.","PeriodicalId":85846,"journal":{"name":"Warasan prachakon lae sangkhom = Journal of population and social studies","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-02-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42021176","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Three data collection methods were applied in this study: documentary research, in-depth interviews, and focus groups. There were 26 participants in total. Qualitative content analysis was employed to identify the significant patterns embedded in the collected data. According to the research findings, challenges to PM2.5 pollution mitigation were classified into three regulatory voids: political voids, institutional voids, and knowledge voids. Combining the possible solutions to the regulatory voids and suggestions from all three data sources, alternative solutions to the PM2.5 crisis were conceptualized into a green criminological framework for PM2.5 pollution prevention. The solutions are based on environmental crime prevention approaches, including socio-legal, regulatory, and social action strategies. These approaches emphasize the enhancement of environmental laws and law enforcement, investments in public infrastructure, land use planning, application of economic incentives and technological solutions, and public participation in pollution monitoring.","PeriodicalId":85846,"journal":{"name":"Warasan prachakon lae sangkhom = Journal of population and social studies","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-02-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47814245","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
