The original idea museums without walls is of Riviere, who had a multifaceted talent. He was a talented jazz pianist, voyager, ethologist, and museologist. He lived in Paris when revolutionary cultural political movements shook the entire society. Riviere was a collaborator of many journals that treated various topics, mixing art and science, philosophy and anthropology, surrealism and ethnography. The paper argues that the idea of making ecomuseums derived from Riviere’s passion for magazines, warehouse, music, and museums. This innovative vision did originate in the Parisian cultural milieu within which both Surrealism and Ethnography were borne, before distinguishing and separating in very different directions. Following his innovative ideas, French Museology grew, and even a New Museology could open the wings and make decisive cultural and scientific enhancements.","PeriodicalId":84923,"journal":{"name":"International journal of anthropology","volume":"35 1","pages":"35-56"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45327896","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A comparison between verbal descriptions of the tradition in Calabria and Molise (Southern Italy)","authors":"F. Pascale, D. Matteo","doi":"10.14673/IJA2019341051","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.14673/IJA2019341051","url":null,"abstract":"The contribution aims to analyze the phenomenon of transhumance by comparing the traditions of Calabria and Molise (southern Italy), dwelling in particular on the witnesses of a Calabrian shepherd and the son of a shepherd from Molise. The methodology, used in the context of the geography of perception, is the collection of some verbal descriptions of the two pastors, oriented through some thematic declinations: 1) the age with which the breeder began to work as a transhumant shepherd; 2) the reasons why some animals carried or did not carry the bell; 3) the movements of the animals guided by the instinct or forced by shepherds; 4) the duration of the transhumance; 5) the reasons why the transhumance was practiced; 6) the best period to carry out the transhumance; 7) the advices of the transhumant shepherd for the possible development of the transhumance by the new generations. This comparison reveals interesting analogies and differences between the tradition of Calabrian and Molise transhumant pastoralism, as well as important reflections on the future of this ancient practice. The idea behind this paper is to show that the mission of social farming is consistent with the economic approach adopted by civil economics that emerged in XV century Italy. Bearing in mind that the European Commission for Agriculture and Rural Development has also recognized the multifunctional role of agriculture in improving the wellbeing of the community, social farming can also be seen as a way to face the current crisis.","PeriodicalId":84923,"journal":{"name":"International journal of anthropology","volume":"33 1","pages":"229-241"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43509484","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, in the context of post-modern society, horticulture is becoming more popular and more visible, as an activity with educational or rehabilitation purposes or as a hobby for highly motivated gardeners, individuals or groups, with no previous experience but keen to experiment with cultivating practices.The interest in urban gardening has grown considerably, assuming many forms and characteristics in different contexts both at global and local levels. The phenomenon seems to be a response to a wide range of needs that goes well beyond the production of food, as it often contributes to promote social inclusion, as well as protection and restoration of urban green areas.For many people taking care of a vegetable patch or a garden is a great way to rediscover their bond with nature, to let off steam and get away from the hustle and bustle of daily life. At the same time allotment gardens become a meeting place for the elderly or turn into an outdoor classroom where children can discover nature’s way of teaching. Even more important perhaps is when vegetable gardens are located in healthcare facilities and used for their therapeutic function, thus providing support and motivation during treatment or rehabilitation. And so it seems as though garden plots are becoming a bottom-up strategy to combat the limitations and paradoxes of the current economic model.","PeriodicalId":84923,"journal":{"name":"International journal of anthropology","volume":"33 1","pages":"149-180"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41853429","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As a result, agriculture was the most important economic activity in the ancient world. We find both aspects in the Latin treatises on agriculture, which were appreciated and carefully handed down by posterity. The authors – Cato, Varo and Columella – not only gave technical advice in their works; they also provided religious precepts while offering social, moral and philosophical recommendations. This is clear evidence of the wide culture, the commitment and the global vision that were shared by these authors. Their double purpose – professional and educational – aimed at two goals: the improvement of human agricultural work in order to know and make the most of the resources of the earth, and the consideration of nature as an animated and divine being, full of generative force, to be treated with care and respect while sharing or exchanging roles between the common mother of all and her children, bound to grow up and to become more aware of their responsibilities.","PeriodicalId":84923,"journal":{"name":"International journal of anthropology","volume":"33 1","pages":"181-191"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47023159","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
