Helminthiasis and coccidiosis are parasitic diseases that harm both health and the economy. This research aimed to see how Anethum graveolens leaves extract (AGLE) worked as an anti-parasitic modulator during oocyst sporulation of an Eimeria papillata infection. FT-IR phytochemical analysis revealed the presence of eight compounds. The time required to induce paralysis and death in worms at the highest concentration (200 mg/mL) was 4.57±0.26 and 5.22±0.10 min, respectively. In an in vitro study, AGLE (300 mg/ml) inhibited sporulation by approximately 100% after 72 and 96 hr. AGLE (200, 100, and 50 mg/ml), amprolium, DettolTM, and phenol induced variable inhibition levels at 96 hr of 5.54%, 1.01%, 37.33%, 81.33%, and 89.33%, respectively. Our findings suggest that AGLE has potent anthelmintic and anticoccidial properties that could be further developed into a novel therapeutic agent.","PeriodicalId":8393,"journal":{"name":"Arquivo Brasileiro De Medicina Veterinaria E Zootecnia","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135275185","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Cryptosporidiosis in cattle industry leads to considerable economic losses due to diarrhea, dehydration, growth retardation, weight loss, and possibly death, however, data on the occurrence ofCryptosporidiumspp. in cattle in Colombia are limited. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the occurrence and possible factors associated to the excretion of Cryptosporidium spp. oocyst in pre-weaned calves from dairy farms in Northern Antioquia, Colombia. In addition, Sheather’s sugar floatation (SSF), and Modified Ziehl-Neelsen staining (MZN) methods were compared. A total of 41 fecal samples were collected from calves between 1 and 92 days of age of which 23 were positive (56.1%). Crossbreed calves were nine times less susceptible than purebred dairy cattle to excretion of Cryptosporidium spp. oocysts (OR=0.10). MZN was the best technique for the detection of oocysts in fecal samples, however, the mean number of days to detect cryptosporidial oocysts was lower for the SSF method. Cryptosporidium is widespread among calves under 2 months of age in dairy herds of Northern Antioquia, although further investigations considering a greater number of farms and animals are necessary.","PeriodicalId":8393,"journal":{"name":"Arquivo Brasileiro De Medicina Veterinaria E Zootecnia","volume":"112 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135275320","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study was divided into two phases: phase 1 and phase 2. Phase 1 consisted of performing exploratory laparotomy and beginning of starvation, in addition to the administration of treatments, according to the group, while phase 2 consisted of re-feeding the animals. Total cholesterol values remained within the normal range for the species throughout the experimental period, but there was a slight increase during phase 1, followed by a decrease in values in phase 2. Hypertriglyceridemia in the ENFL, ENTGL and PARFL groups during phase 1 occurred because of the negative energy balance. The provision of enteral fluid therapy with electrolytes and an energy source, with or without glutamine, or parenteral fluid therapy were not effective in reversing the effects of negative energy balance. Thus, therapeutic protocols that combine enteral or parenteral fluid therapy for prolonged periods and food deprivation need additional nutritional support to avoid the deleterious effects of negative energy balance.","PeriodicalId":8393,"journal":{"name":"Arquivo Brasileiro De Medicina Veterinaria E Zootecnia","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135275324","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Blood samples were collected aseptically and assessed for babesiosis through microscopy and PCR, and through automated analyzer for hematological attributes. Overall results of prevalence through PCR in cattle population showed significantly (P≤0.05) lower prevalence of 19.4% (n=72/376) as compared to 37.2% (n=140/276) through microscopy. None of the studied cattle from Cholistani breed were Babesia-positive. However, significantly (P≤0.05) higher prevalence was noticed for crossbred cattle (46.7%, n= 50/107) followed by that in Friesian (16.1%, n= 10/62), Jersey (7%, n= 5/71) and Sahiwal (6.9%, n= 7/101) cattle breeds. Female cattle (19.5%, n= 55/281) and age group 1 (Up to 2 years) (40%, n= 42/105) had higher prevalence of Babesia as ascertained through PCR in comparison to their counterpart groups. Significantly (P≤0.05) higher prevalence of 35.9% (n=60/167) was shown in summer as compared to that in winter season (5.7%, n= 12/209). All the positive samples produced the 490bp amplicons specific and typical for Babesia bigemina. Hemoglobin concentration, erythrocytic count, hematocrit and mean corpuscular volume were significantly (P≤0.05) lower in babesia-positive cattle as compared to healthy ones.","PeriodicalId":8393,"journal":{"name":"Arquivo Brasileiro De Medicina Veterinaria E Zootecnia","volume":"61 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135275329","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The data set used in the study consisted of random numbers generated from N (0,1), and χ2(3) distributions using the random function of the Numpy library in the Python programming language. The logarithmic, square root and root transformations were evaluated on ANOVA based on simulation combinations. It was observed that the transformation techniques of taking the square root after adding 0.5 and 0.375 to the data were relatively more reliable compared to other transformations in terms of type I error rate. However, in every case, type I error rate determined at the beginning of the experiment increased both before and after the transformation was applied. In particular, interestingly, the third and fourth degree root transformations gave better results of test power in the right skewed distribution. In addition, we compared the transformation techniques in question to determine the normality of the data and the homogeneity of variances by a real data.","PeriodicalId":8393,"journal":{"name":"Arquivo Brasileiro De Medicina Veterinaria E Zootecnia","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135275331","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Imaging exams are very valuable tools for diagnostic procedures. The objective here is to report a rare case of rhinitis by Microsporum canis in a 4-year-old male, SRD dog, sneezing and with chronic purulent nasal secretion two weeks after surgical correction of cleft palate, emphasizing the imaging tests importance for a final and assertive diagnosis. Skull radiographs revealed turbinate destruction and two soft tissue amorphous structures with radiopacity at nasal cavity. The presence of a foreign body in the left passage, soaked in mucopurulent secretion associated with fungal plaques, with firm texture were evidenced by rhinoscopy, and identified as M. canis colonies by microbiological examination. In association, red-brown hyperplastic areas biopsied via rhinoscopy were histologically diagnosed as transmissible venereal tumor. It is concluded that such infection can be reported as opportunistic, secondary to local immunosuppression by post-surgical foreign body and nasal TVT. This is the first case to report such a pathogen in the dog, making its insertion in the differential diagnosis of rhinopathies extremely valuable.","PeriodicalId":8393,"journal":{"name":"Arquivo Brasileiro De Medicina Veterinaria E Zootecnia","volume":"2012 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135275468","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The infection is acquired by inhalation of the fungus or basidiospores present in the environment and may manifest as localized nasal or ocular injury, pulmonary illness or, less commonly, as meningoencephalomyelitis. Long-term treatment is necessary, and the prognosis is reserved. This paper aims to report a case of invasive cryptococcosis in a domestic cat that was presented with neurological signs. It is intended to emphasize the systemic nature of the infection and its possible routes of infection, reinforcing the importance of investigating this disease as a differential diagnosis of clinical manifestations with neurological involvement in cats.","PeriodicalId":8393,"journal":{"name":"Arquivo Brasileiro De Medicina Veterinaria E Zootecnia","volume":"227 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135275469","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Rats were divided into four groups: (1) control (CONT), (2) lung-adenocarcinoma (LAD) injected intra-peritoneally with 1g/kg ethyl carbamate once weekly for a month, (3) LAD+CMLE administered 500 mg/kg CMLE orally for the last two months of the experiment, and (4) LAD+CIPL treated group, injected 2.5 mg/kg Cisplatin intraperitoneally once weekly for the last two months of the experiment. Light and electron microscopic examinations revealed adenocarcinoma development in terminal bronchiole besides some histopathological changes in the LAD group such as atypical, exaggerated collagen fibers, increment of mucinous content, and increasing of PCNA positive immunoreactivity whereas electron microscopy investigation exposed that papillary adenocarcinoma originated from Clara cells in the LAD group. The LAD+CMLE treated group showed no tumor masses and nearly all with normal lung histology. It also recovered the normal ultrastructure of bronchiolar Clara cells. CMLE treatment offers a new alternative cure with less toxicity than Cisplatin for lung cancer therapy. Hence, CMLE would be employed as a novel supply of anti-cancer compounds combating lung cancer.","PeriodicalId":8393,"journal":{"name":"Arquivo Brasileiro De Medicina Veterinaria E Zootecnia","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135275319","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Two experiments were developed to evaluate the effects of the additives in two commercial extenders, Botubov® (Experiment 1) and Triladyl® (Experiment 2), both with the same design. Three ejaculates from four bulls (n = 12) were used. Each ejaculate was divided into seven equal fractions for dilution (60x106 spermatozoa/mL) in the following treatments: CON: extender only; IGF100: IGF-I 100ng/mL; IGF200: IGF-I 200ng/mL; INS150: insulin 150µUI/mL; INS200: insulin 200µUI/mL; ASS1: IGF-I 100ng/mL + insulin 150µUI/mL; ASS2: IGF-I 200ng/mL + insulin 200µUI/mL. Semen was cryopreserved by an automated system. Post-thawed sperm were evaluated regarding motility by CASA (Computer-assisted sperm analysis), and membranes by fluorescent probes (H342, PI, FITC-PSA and JC-1). For Botubov® extender, INS150 was more efficient in preserving total and progressive motility, VCL, BCF, plasma and mitochondrial membranes. A similar response was seen when insulin was added to the Triladyl® extender, INS150 was more efficient in preserving sperm motility, plasma membrane integrity and mitochondrial potential. Thus, the addition of insulin 150µUI/mL, regardless of the composition of the extender, contributes to better preserving bovine sperm from the cryopreservation effects.","PeriodicalId":8393,"journal":{"name":"Arquivo Brasileiro De Medicina Veterinaria E Zootecnia","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135275476","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
