Here, we aim to examine psychopathology in children with FXS and investigate the relationship between children's psychosocial well-being and socio-demographic factors, autism spectrum disorder (ASD) comorbidity, and the type and level of caregivers' perceived social support. Materials and Method: Twenty-six children aged 5-18 years with FXS and 26 age- and sex-matched healthy controls (HC) were included. DSM-5-based clinical interviews were conducted with all participants. We also collected parent ratings of health-related quality of life indexes and perceived social support levels and types. Results: The mean age of children with FXS was 10.9 ± 3.5 years, and the mean age of healthy comparisons (HC, n= 26) was 11.8 ± 2.6 years. In the FXS group, 84.6% had comorbid psychiatric disorders, and 65.3% had intellectual disability. FXS group displayed lower psychosocial and total quality of life scores than the HC group. Also, there was significant positive correlations between childrens' psychosocial well-being and \"significant others\" (rp = 0.502, p = 0.009) and total perceived support scores (rp = 0.448, p = 0.022). The most influential factor related to the psychosocial well-being in children with FXS was ASD comorbidity (F= 30.6, R2, 0.543, p<0.001). Conclusion: Providing support to mothers of children with FXS may positively affect the children's health outcomes, especially psychosocial well-being.","PeriodicalId":8248,"journal":{"name":"Annals of Medical Research","volume":"21 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85740682","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Material and Method: 65 patients who underwent total hip arthroplasty with anterolateral approach between 2016-2021 were included. Preoperative and postoperative functional status evaluations of the patients were performed using the Harris hip score. In the clinical evaluation of the patients, thigh pain, wound infection, length of hospital stay, body mass index, duration of surgery and complications were also evaluated. In the radiological evaluation, the acetabular and femoral relaxation zones, the presence and amount of vertical and horizontal migration of the acetabular component, the presence and amount of femoral vertical migration, the position of the femoral component, the femoral dorr classification, the angle of inclination of the acetabular component and the presence of heterotrophic ossification were examined. Results: Of the patients, 29 (44.6%) were male and 36 (55.4%) were female. The mean age of the patients was 61.65 and the mean follow-up period was 40.2 months. Considering the diagnoses of the patients, THA was applied to 51 (70.8%) patients for coxarthrosis, 14 (19.4%) for avascular necrosis, 5 (6.9%) patients for fractures, and 2 (2.8%) patients for septic arthritis. The mean preoperative Harris Hip Score of the patients was 34.2 (18.1-59.9). The mean postoperative Harris Hip score was 88.5 (68.8-96). When the postoperative Harris Hip Score of the patients was evaluated, 53 (73.6%) were evaluated as excellent results, 18 (25%) as very good results, and 1 (1.4%) as good result. Findings: In our study, the results of total hip arthroplasty performed with the anterolateral approach were found to be a successful and satisfactory surgery when performed with appropriate indications and planning.","PeriodicalId":8248,"journal":{"name":"Annals of Medical Research","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89404136","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are few studies evaluating the audiovestibular system in celiac patients. This study aims to evaluate audiovestibular findings in celiac patients. Materials and Methods: 40 patients with celiac disease and 40 healthy volunteers were enrolled in this sudy. Each subject underwent a neurotologic examination including pure tone audiometry (PTA), Transient Evoked Otoacoustic Emission (TEOAE) with 1000 Hz, 1500 Hz, 2000 Hz, 3000 Hz and 4000 Hz, Videonystagmography (VNG), and binaural bithermal caloric test. It was evaluated whether the test results indicated significant differences between the celiac patient and control group. Results: Sensorineural hearing loss was detected in the right and left ear of the 7 patients. In the pure tone audiometry (PTA) test, there was no statistically significant difference between celiac patients and controls in both air conducted and bone conducted hearing thresholds (p=0,389 for the right ear, p=0,083 for the left ear). Speech reception thresholds of celiac patients were significantly higher than the controls (p= 0,000 for right ear, p=0,001 for the left ear) While OAE response was obtained in the right ear of 24 patients and in the left ear of 23 patients; OAE response was obtained in all of the control group. In the OAE test, in response to 2000 Hz stimuli, there was no significant difference in the right ear responses, although there was a lower signal-to-noise ratio in patients compared to the control group. At all other frequencies, a statistically significant lower signal-to-noise ratio was found in the patient group. Statistically significant pathological differences were found in spontaneaus nystagmus, gaze, saccade, smooth pursuit, optokinetic nystagmus and caloric tests in celiac patients compared to the control group (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Pure tone audiometry, otoacoustic emision, oculomotor and caloric tests findings indicated that auditory system, periphral and central vestibular system may be affected in individuals with celiac disease.","PeriodicalId":8248,"journal":{"name":"Annals of Medical Research","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89328519","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Objective: In this study, it was aimed to examine the effects of metabolic syndrome, which affects many organs, on the autonomic nervous system and to observe the changes after treatment. Materials and Methods: Heart rate variability values of 101 metabolic syndrome patients who were treated at the Kocaeli University Cardiology Outpatient Clinic included in the study. All patients were offered lifestyle change suggestions in addition to their medical treatments. At the end of three months, the heart rate variability parameters of the patients were re-evaluated. Results: Heart rate variability values were found to be significantly lower in metabolic syndrome patients compared to the control group. It was observed that the heart rate variability values improved significantly in half of the patients who applied the given treatment with lifestyle changes. A decrease in heart rate change parameters was found in the group that did not implement lifestyle changes compared to the beginning of the study. Conclusions: Autonomic nervous system functions evaluated by heart rate variability decreased in patients with metabolic syndrome, and the treatment and lifestyle changes had a positive effect on these parameters.","PeriodicalId":8248,"journal":{"name":"Annals of Medical Research","volume":"33 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87400379","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
