It aimed to examine the inflammation processes in the early stages of the disease and the frontal QRS-T (fQRS-T) angle in bipolar disorder (BD). Materials and Methods: After exclusion criteria, 53 FEM patients and 59 healthy controls (HC) were included in the study. Sociodemographic, electrocardiogram (ECG) and lab data of the participants were evaluated. Results: Mean of age and gender distribution did not differ between the groups (p=.743, p=.294, respectively). The heart rate of the FEM group was significantly higher than the HC group (p<.001). fQRS-T was significantly wider in the FEM group than in healthy controls (p=.20). Albumin was significantly lower in the FEM group than in the HC group (p<.001). CRP and CAR values were significantly higher in the FEM group than in HC (p=.009 and p=.011, respectively). In the FEM group, HDL value was significantly lower than HC, while LDL value was significantly higher than HC (p=<.001 and p=.001, accordingly). MHR and AIP values were significantly greater in the FEM group than in HC (p=<.001 and p=.006, respectively). The fQRS-T angle in FEM patients was associated with MHR (r=.37). Conclusion: This study is unique in evaluating inflammatory markers, fQRS-T angle, and heart rate in FEM patients. In this study, we found significantly higher inflammatory markers of MHR, CRP, and CAR in FEM patients in the control group. We found that these findings were consistent with the literature. Since the fQRS-T angle was wider in the FEM group, the cardiovascular risk may be increased in the early stages of BD disease.","PeriodicalId":8248,"journal":{"name":"Annals of Medical Research","volume":"13 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74425735","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Few studies have examined vit-D levels and immune function in humans. The study looked at vit-D levels and inflammatory markers in older adults. Material and Methods: Retrospective research was done. The hospital's records were searched for the study's data. Participants were 65-year-olds who applied to the internal medicine outpatient clinic between May 2020 and May 2022. Each person's vit-D, CRP, Lymphocyte/Monocyte, Neutrophil/Lymphocyte, Platelet/Lymphocyte, Ferritin, and Prognostic nutritional index (PNI) levels were measured. Results: The information from 2118 patients was analyzed as part of the study. Of those patients, 324 met the requirements for participation in the research, and the participants' average age was 73.21 years, with a standard deviation of 5.24 years. The average level of vit-D found in people was 14.18 nmol/L, with a standard deviation of 6.14 nmol/L. It was discovered that there was a negative correlation that was statistically significant between the individuals' levels of vit-D and the ratio of CRP to MPV (p less than 0.05). Vit-D and PNI were found to have a correlation of r=0.205, which was found to be positive and significant (p <0.05). Every 0.721-unit increase in PNI will result in an additional 1 unit of 25(OH) vit-D. It was found that the CRP (mg/L) variable contributed significantly to the model, and it was discovered that the presence of 1 unit of 25(OH) vit-D was increased for every 0.202 unit decrease (p <0.05). Conclusion: Insufficient vitamin 25(OH)D is found in the elderly population. 25(OH) vit-D has a negative relationship with CRP (mg/L) and MPV (fL), but a positive relationship with PNI, an indicator of nutritional status. The study suggests that if an elderly person is disabled, nutritional supplements should be provided.","PeriodicalId":8248,"journal":{"name":"Annals of Medical Research","volume":"2005 25","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"72617783","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are population-based differences about known genetic modifiers of different fetal hemoglobin values. We aimed to find if high fetal hemoglobin value are caused by XmnI-HBG2 polymorphism, rs11886868 of BCL11A or KLF1 whole gene mutations. Material and Methods: Genotyping procedure of thirty well re-defined and characterized transfusion dependent beta thalassemia patients was conducted via either sanger sequencing or and PCR-RFLP. Statistic analysis of groups and multiple logistic regression analysis of related genotypes were performed. Results: We found strong correlations between transfusion dependency and fetal hemoglobin levels (P<0.05). IVS.I.110 (G>A) homozygous mutation was found to be predominant in HBB gene. Lower fetal hemoglobin levels were seen in IVS.I.110 (G>A) homozygous group (P<0.05). Total count of variations among the three modifier genes BCL11A polymorphism was leading first. We did not observe any statistically significant relationship in patients with beta thalassemia major patients who have high fetal hemoglobin values between three modifiers group (P>0.05). Conclusion: This is the first research report from Turkey in terms of 3 different modifiers were analysed and evaluated. Since some cases have more than one variations in these three modifiers, involving higher sample size may overcome this challenge. Other genomic alterations rather than XmnI-HBG2, variations of BCL11A rs11886868 and mutation profile of KLF1 gene, which could decrease or abolish the effect of gamma globin repressors, may have more direct role with high fetal hemoglobin levels in patients with transfusion dependent beta thalassemia in Turkey.","PeriodicalId":8248,"journal":{"name":"Annals of Medical Research","volume":"48 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76777543","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Eight of our patients reported having contact with someone who had COVID-19 infection or was suspected of having the infection, and in three of these cases (37.5%) the patient reported having at least one symptom of infection. Out of the 18 patients who were tested, 4 (22.2%) had a positive result. Positive test results were associated with more symptoms in patients (3.8 vs 0.3, p0.001) than negative test results. In Gaucher patients, symptoms or positive test results were not correlated with age, gender, BMI, comorbidity, genotype, previous splenectomy, or enzyme replacement therapy. All of our patients only received supportive care; none of them required intensive care or specialized treatment. Materials and Methods: This study is a retrospectively descriptive research. People applied to the diabetes and obesity unit of a District Health Directorate in Istanbul between 01.01.2017-01.04.2022 constitute the population. Analysis about the first application (height, weight, sociodemographics) was made with 3259 people; weight loss was evaluated within 1282 people. Mean, standard deviation, median, minimum, maximum values, numbers (n) and percentages (%) were used for descriptive data. The Mann Whitney U was used if the data not normally distributed. Chi-square test was used for categorical variables. Multivariate analysis is made with Cox-regression analysis. Statistical significance level was p<0.05. Results: 2973 (91.2%) of the participants were women. The median age was 38.0 (15.0-83.0). Height, weight and BMI median values were 158.0 cm (116.0-190.0), 83.6 kg (56.0-160.2), 33.0 kg/m2 (25.0-64.7), respectively. Weight and BMI loss was observed in 90.8% of the patients. The median weight and BMI loss loss were 2.7 kg (-21.40-56.10) and 1.1 kg/m2 (-8.79-22.69). According to univariate analysis, weight loss percentage of 5% and above was significantly higher in those with low educational status, but this significance was not observed in multivariate analysis. Conclusion: Weight loss was achieved 90.8% of the participants. While it is encouraging to benefit from nutritional counseling at a high percentage; it is important to understand the barriers to weight loss for participants who cannot benefit.","PeriodicalId":8248,"journal":{"name":"Annals of Medical Research","volume":"16 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88079805","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
