Pregnancy and giving birth represent a special time in the life of a teenage girl. The time arouses a lot of emotions, both positive and negative, often accompanied by a lack of support from those closest to her. Aim of the research: To determine the correlation between the social support received and the types of attitudes towards pregnancy and childbirth presented by adolescent mothers. Material and methods: A cross-sectional study with the use of the Social Support Scale and a questionnaire to measure women’s attitudes towards pregnancy and childbirth was carried out. Aim of the research: To perform a frequency analysis of histological results after large loop excision of the transformation zone (LLETZ) for cervical precancerous lesions in an outpatient setting. Material and methods: From 1 January 2017 to 31 July 2021, 189 patients underwent Medical Centre “Prof. Kornovski”. The methodology includes the indications for performing the LLETZ procedure, a description of the procedure, the tools and technical parameters, the operation technique, and the histological examination. Results: We present a histological analysis of the preparations after LLETZ, the frequency of glandular involvement in the pathological process, the incidence of thermal damage of the resection lines after the procedure, and the incidence of involvement of carcinoma or high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion of resection lines after LLETZ. Conclusions: The LLETZ procedure can be diagnostic for the detection of invasive carcinoma in menopausal women, clini- cally and colposcopically suspected of invasion, but with negative histology from the targeted biopsy. Intra-glandular spread is a sign of high-grade dysplasia and cervical carcinoma in situ. Thermal damage to resection lines is a consequence of LLETZ. These lesions do not compromise the assessment of the resection lines. Among NENs a large class of gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumours (GEP-NETs) can be distinguished, which comprise neoplasms arising from the gastrointestinal tract and pancreas. Therefore, this review provides the current status of the World Health Organization classification of GEP-NETs as well as an overview of their clinical presentation, diagnosis, and treatment methods. GEP-NETs are generally divided into 5 groups: pancreatic NETs (PanNETs), gastric NETs (G-NETs), duodenal NETs (D-NETs), jejunoileal NETs (Je-Ile NETs), and neuroendocrine neoplasms of the large intestine. This disorder may cause no symptoms and be diagnosed incidentally. However, in 25–50% of cases, it is accompanied by maculopathy causing a permanent reduction in visual acuity. Optical coherence tomography is a non-invasive technique that allows detailed diagnosis and monitoring the progression of the pathology mentioned above. In ODP complicated by maculopathy, OCT visualises exudative macular detachment with the dissection of the inner retinal layers followed by detachment of the outer retinal layers. Aim of the research: To investigate the correlations between the morphological structure of the foot and postural stability in children and adolescents. Material and methods: The study sample comprised 627 children (aged 10–15 years), who had the plantar part of their feet assessed in static conditions with a 2D Podoscan. Individual foot loading paradigm variables were assessed with a baropodometric platform. Postural assessment was completed with 2D Videography, facilitating morphological measurements of body asymmetry. Despite some common, minor, local, and systemic adverse effects following vaccination, there is also, in rare cases, a potential for the development of anti-platelet factor 4 antibodies, resulting in platelet activation and aggregation leading to potentially life-threatening thrombosis. Vaccine-induced immune thrombocytopaenia (VITT) is a rare immune response following administration of adenoviral vector vaccines against severe acute respiratory coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) such as ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 AstraZeneca - Oxford and Ad26.COV2. S Johnson & Johnson. Since the discovery of the syndrome, the mortality rate has decreased by 90%. Therefore, in this paper, data including epidemiology and pathophysiology of the syndrome, followed by the diagnosis criteria and management options, were collected. The authors believe that spreading knowledge further among primary care physicians and other healthcare professionals will lead to better VITT treatment outcomes. Głuszek","doi":"10.5114/ms.2022.117707","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.5114/ms.2022.117707","url":null,"abstract":"Introduction: Increased body mass index (BMI) correlates with an increased risk of many diseases and is thought to be a risk factor in multiple sclerosis (MS). Aim of the research: To assess the lifestyle and health of adult individuals with MS, according to their relative BMI. Material and methods: The study participants comprised 115 individuals with MS. The participants underwent anthropometric measurements, functional tests, lifestyle assessments, and a biochemical blood parameter analysis that included the fasting glucose, triglyceride, HDL-cholesterol, vitamin D, and biotin concentrations. Results: In total, 40.9% of the participants were overweight or obese. The compared groups did not differ significantly in terms of the degree of their physical disability. The overweight group showed a higher functional ability of the lower limbs than the underweight group. Conversely, the underweight and the normal-weight group showed a higher relative hand grip strength than individuals with overweight and obesity (p < 0.05). Metabolic syndrome was more prevalent in the overweight and obese participants (p < 0.05). The obese individuals drank sweetened carbonated or still drinks significantly more often than the other individuals. They also consumed potatoes more often and other vegetables less often than the other participants (p < 0.05). Conclusions: Individuals with MS differed in terms of the values of their metabolic parameters, functional ability of the lower limbs, and relative hand grip strength, depending on their BMI. The occurrence of obesity may have resulted, at least partially, from differences in diet and physical activity. Streszczenie Wprowadzenie: Podwyższony wskaźnik masy ciała (BMI) wiąże się z większym ryzykiem rozwoju wielu chorób. Jest uznawany także za czynnik ryzyka wystąpienia stwardnienia rozsianego (MS). Cel pracy: Ocena stylu życia i stanu zdrowia dorosłych chorych na SM w zależności od ich względnej masy ciała (BMI). Materiał i metody: Badaniami objęto 115 chorych na MS. Przeprowadzono pomiary antropometryczne, testy funkcjonalne, ocenę stylu życia i analizę parametrów biochemicznych krwi, oznaczając stężenia: glukozy na czczo, triglicerydów, cholesterolu HDL, witaminy D i biotyny. Wyniki: Nadwagę i otyłość stwierdzono łącznie u 40,9% osób. Porównywane grupy nie różniły się istotnie pod względem stopnia niepełnosprawności ruchowej. W grupie osób z nadwagą odnotowano większą sprawność funkcjonalną kończyn dolnych niż w grupie pacjentów z niedowagą. Wartości względnej siły mięśni dłoni okazały się wyższe u uczestników z niedowagą i z prawidłowym BMI niż u tych z nadwagą i otyłością (p < 0,05). W grupie pacjentów z nadwagą i otyłością istotnie częściej występował zespół metaboliczny (p < 0,05). Osoby z otyłością istotnie częściej piły słodzone napoje gazowane lub niegazowane, częściej spożywały ziemniaki, natomiast rzadziej – inne warzywa (p < 0,05).
