The aetiopathogenesis of this neoplasm includes obesity, a sedentary lifestyle, a diet rich in fat and low in vegetables, smoking, alcohol consumption, and inflammatory bowel diseases. Available research raises concerns of malnutrition, or even cachexia, accompanying can- cer or colorectal cancer. Aim the evaluate the nutritional status of patients qualified for surgery due to colorectal cancer. In this study, the analysed selected nutritional parameters and the severity of anaemia in 296 patients diagnosed with colorectal cancer. Data were collected upon to the 2 nd Department of General and Gastrointestinal Surgery in University Clinical Hospital in Bialystok, and, retrospectively, with the help of correctly collected anamnesis. on body mass index (BMI) results, there was no evidence of malnutrition in the study group. Normal BMI values were found in 37% of respondents, while overweight or obesity was found in 63% of patients. Unintentional weight was observed in 167 patients and ranged from 2 to 15 kg. Hypoproteinaemia and hypoalbuminaemia were found in 35% of the examined patients. Anaemia occurred in 64% of the examined men and 52% of the examined women. In 70% of respondents abnormal total lymphocyte count (TLC) values were found, which indicated malnutrition. The NRS 2002 scale showed malnutrition in 60% of the respondents.","PeriodicalId":81014,"journal":{"name":"Contributions in medical studies","volume":"46 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74408534","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Disruption of the processes of sensory integration at any stage of its formation may result in dysfunctions in the development of complex motor functions as well as self-regulation of behaviour and concentration of cognitive attention. Aim of the research: To investigate the coexistence and correlation between regulation disorders of sensory processes (RDSP) in school-age children. Material and methods: The study was conducted on a group of 104 children aged 6–15 years using a standardized sensorimotor questionnaire completed by their parents or legal guardians in compliance with all the principles consistent with Good Clinical Practice. Then, the correlation between the occurrence of individual RDSPs was analysed. Results: Correlation analysis showed that many RDSPs are statistically significantly correlated with each other, which is also confirmed in other publications. A special relationship has been demonstrated between individual RDSPs and disturbances in motor coordination and disturbances in cognitive attention and behaviour (self-control). Conclusions: The study, by showing significant correlations between individual RDSPs, may contribute to better control over the neurodevelopment of children and adolescents, as well as helping to support their psychomotor development through psychologists, physiotherapists, or educators, as well as by parents/guardians. Correlations between RDSP and impaired coordination skills and cognitive functions indicate the integrity of the nervous system and the links between the motor and mental spheres that are important for a child’s development.","PeriodicalId":81014,"journal":{"name":"Contributions in medical studies","volume":"38 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75665160","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Namely, it has to be informed, i.e. preceded by adequate therapeutic information, and it has to be consciously given. Medical practice, however, often involves patients who, due to their condition, are in no position to give legally efficacious consent. Aim of the research: The analysis of cases in which medical proceedings were interrupted due to the impossibility of ob- taining the patient’s informed consent. Material and methods: The study material comprised a group of 100 patients whose medical documentation was analyzed in the light of the reason for seeking substitutive consent from the court, the time the court took to decide, or, alternatively, a differ-ent outcome in the case of the patient’s death or completion of the procedure for life-saving reasons without obtaining consent. Results and conclusions: Legal provisions do not apply to situations where there is no premise that the delay caused by the con- sent procedure would pose a threat to the patient’s life, cause serious injury or serious health impairment, but at the same time the necessity to perform a given procedure is so urgent that proceedings before a court in normal operation are not advisable. It is characterized by abnormal hypermobility leading to repeated injuries of the joint. Aim of the research: To evaluate the function of the knee joint in relation to mechanical stability and to evaluate the param- eters influencing the stability of the knee joint in the period of 3 to 5 years after surgery. Material and methods: The study enrolled 51 patients, 38 men and 13 women, operated on due to ACL rupture. The knee joint stability was assessed with a Rolimeter and the Lysholm scale, and the isokinetic muscle strength was measured with a Biodex 4 dynamometer. The study was carried out in the period from 3 to 5 years after the operation. Results: The difference between the Rolimeter measurement of the uninvolved knee and operated one was no more than 3 mm in most of the respondents (84.3%). Joint instability over 3 mm was observed in 15.7% of the respondents. The strength of the extensor muscles of the knee joint was significantly higher in the uninvolved limbs compared to the operated ones. Conclusions: After ACL reconstruction, some patients have instability in the operated joint. Assessment of the function and instability of the knee joint using the subjective Lysholm scale is comparable to the assessment performed with the objective research tool - the Rolimeter. Patients after arthroscopic ACL reconstruction develop chronic muscle strength disorders.","PeriodicalId":81014,"journal":{"name":"Contributions in medical studies","volume":"128 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86389708","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Aim of the research: To establish if coping styles mediated between temperamental traits and occupational burnout in bank employees. Material and methods: The study included 91 bank employees, who completed the Coping Inventory for Stressful Situa- tions (CISS), the Formal Characteristics of Behavior – Temperament Inventory (FCB-TI), and the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI). In data analysis the authors used a multiple mediation model, which allowed for testing individual coping styles as sequential mediator variables. Results: It was found that task-oriented and emotion-oriented styles were mediators between five temperamental traits and the overall level of occupational burnout; briskness and endurance predisposed subjects to the use of task-oriented coping strategies, reducing the level of burnout; activity reduced the tendency to focus on negative emotional states, as opposed to perseverance and emotional reactivity, which promoted the tendency to confront anxiety or frustration and exposed employees to burnout. Conclusions: To the authors’ knowledge, the present study is the first attempt to investigate the mediating role of coping styles between temperamental traits and occupational burnout in employees of the banking sector. Although these findings do not exhaust the issues discussed, they are a point of departure for further research into risk and protective factors for the experience of burnout in bank employees.","PeriodicalId":81014,"journal":{"name":"Contributions in medical studies","volume":"75 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86402130","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
