Those who successfully practice Nursing Professional Development (NPD) as their specialty have a unique body of knowledge and skill set, just as those nurses who practice in other specialty areas such as renal dialysis or neonatal intensive care. Clearly, nurses are not easily interchanged, and competence in one practice area does not automatically ensure success in another. Recognizing the unique knowledge and skill set of each area of practice, whether it be a clinical specialty or a specialty such as administration, education, or informatics, is essential. Defining standards of practice and professional performance is critical to the advancement of the specialties and the individual’s practice.","PeriodicalId":79659,"journal":{"name":"Journal for nurses in staff development : JNSD : official journal of the National Nursing Staff Development Organization","volume":"28 1","pages":"43-4"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1097/NND.0b013e31824164e8","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"30400762","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
