The treatments were arranged in a 4 × 5 factorial scheme, with four inoculants (I) and five fermentation periods (P) (7, 14, 28, 45, and 90), in a completely randomized design, with three replicates. Forty-seven LAB strains were isolated from control silage, and L. buchneri was the predominant species at 45 and 90 days of fermentation. The qPCR data showed that L. buchneri predominated during all fermentation periods in the inoculated silages. There was an effect (P<0.05) of I × P interaction on all studied variables of the fermentative profile and microbial population. There was an effect (P<0.05) of I × P interaction on the dry matter (DM), neutral detergent fiber (NDF), in vitro DM digestibility, and in vitro NDF digestibility. Inoculation with L. buchneri resulted in silages with better fermentative quality and digestibility and a lower yeast population. The native LB.1 and LB.4 strains have potential to be used as inoculants in sorghum silage production, with effects on fermentation quality at 45 days of storage.
","PeriodicalId":7776,"journal":{"name":"Anais da Academia Brasileira de Ciencias","volume":"97 1","pages":"e20240783"},"PeriodicalIF":1.1,"publicationDate":"2025-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143762818","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"综合性期刊","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this sense, this research investigated sexual dimorphism, sexual maturity, and reproductive cycle of P. genimaculatus, specimens from Brazil. Sexually reproductive females display longer body lengths, while males possess longer tails, although similar head lengths and widths are noted males and females. The female reproductive cycle exhibits a prolonged seasonal pattern, with secondary vitellogenesis taking place from September to June and oviductional eggs appearing between July and September. Follicular length, however, was not correlated to seasonality. Fecundity was not associated to body length but was closely aligned with potential fecundity. Histological assessments indicate secondary vitellogenesis beginning at follicle length of 7.6 mm. Ductus deferens and testicular volume in males are not influenced by body size or season. A spermatogenesis peak is noted in early autumn, with residual activity observed throughout winter. This study contributes with novel data on the reproductive biology of P. genimaculatus, aiding in this species conservation efforts.
","PeriodicalId":7776,"journal":{"name":"Anais da Academia Brasileira de Ciencias","volume":"97 1","pages":"e20240469"},"PeriodicalIF":1.1,"publicationDate":"2025-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143762819","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"综合性期刊","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This scenario necessitates the development of suitable methods that integrate appropriate computational techniques, such as convolutional neural networks (CNN) to address the diversity of drone captures and improve accuracy in detection and re-identification. In this paper, a solution for vehicle detection and Re-ID is proposed, combining CNN techniques VGG16, VGG19, ResNet50, InceptionV3 and EfficientNetV2L. YOLOv4 was selected for detection, while the DeepSORT algorithm was chosen for tracking. The proposed solution considers the generalization capabilities of these techniques with varied images from different drones in different positions. Two datasets were employed: the first is a public dataset from Mendeley used for method evaluation, while the second consists of images and data collected by a swarm of drones. In the first experiment, the best performing network was ResNet50, with an average accuracy of 55%. In the second experiment, the highest accuracy CNN was VGG19, with 91% accuracy. Overall, the techniques were able to distinguish vehicles of different models and adapted to the data captured by drones.
","PeriodicalId":7776,"journal":{"name":"Anais da Academia Brasileira de Ciencias","volume":"97 2","pages":"e20240623"},"PeriodicalIF":1.1,"publicationDate":"2025-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143762821","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"综合性期刊","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Environmental factors like temperature, age, and stress can alter enzyme activity in vivo, making controlled in vitro studies necessary. This research focused on the brain AChE of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus), a key species in global aquaculture, to detect organophosphate contamination. The study examined pesticides such as chlorpyrifos, fenitrothion, malathion, and temephos. Optimal pH (8.0) and temperature (55°C) conditions were determined for AChE activity. The enzyme also showed sensitivity to several heavy metals, including Co²⁺, Cd²⁺, Cu²⁺, Hg²⁺, Mn²⁺, and Zn²⁺, with mercury causing 100% inhibition. AChE exhibited high substrate affinity, with a Vmax of 0.651 ± 0.26 mU/mg and a Michaelis-Menten constant (Km) of 399 mU/mg. Pesticide inhibition varied, with chlorpyrifos and temephos showing the highest efficacy at lower concentrations. IC20, IC50, and Ki values ranked pesticide potency as follows: malathion, fenitrothion, temephos, and chlorpyrifos. These results support the use of Nile tilapia AChE as a reliable environmental biomarker for detecting pesticides, offering valuable insights for environmental monitoring and filling gaps in the existing literature.
","PeriodicalId":7776,"journal":{"name":"Anais da Academia Brasileira de Ciencias","volume":"97 2","pages":"e20240659"},"PeriodicalIF":1.1,"publicationDate":"2025-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143762823","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"综合性期刊","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We identified osteological correlates from structures observed in extant archosaur vertebrae and skulls and supported by Extant Phylogenetic Bracket (EPB) criteria. We estimated the muscular capacity using the \"Maximal Force Production\" formula. According to our analyses, at least thirteen muscles were present in the neck of pterosaurs, only one of which does not correspond to an EPB level I inference. The muscles that performed skull and neck pitching were more robust and stronger to execute the movements. Muscles that showed extremely low potential had a more cervical stabilization function. Specializations we identified in the muscles are compatible with the foraging habits previously inferred for these pterosaurs, namely surface fishing by Rhamphorhynchus and Anhanguera and capture of small terrestrial prey by Azhdarcho.
","PeriodicalId":7776,"journal":{"name":"Anais da Academia Brasileira de Ciencias","volume":"97Suppl. 1 Suppl. 1","pages":"e20240478"},"PeriodicalIF":1.1,"publicationDate":"2025-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143762840","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"综合性期刊","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While this taxon was initially described based on a single upper molar and three isolated lower molars, the occlusal relations between these teeth have never been previously analyzed. In this study, the upper and lower molars assigned to this taxon, along with specimen AMNH 49805, were included in a scatterplot and two principal component analyses (PCA), assessing several morphometric parameters that were diagnostic of this taxon. We inferred the occlusal relationships between the assigned molars to assess their morpho-occlusal compatibility. Our analyses have demonstrated that the Xenocynus crypticus molars are morphometrically distinct from other sympatric taxa of similar size, with m1s having proportionally shorter talonids. Furthermore, the upper and lower molars of X. crypticus are occlusally compatible, exhibiting similar inferred proportions in the length and width of the talonid. These findings support the taxonomic validity of X. crypticus and an association of the lower molars with this species. From Latam Chequea Coronavirus's database, 838 assertions checked of fact-checking were analysed by automated content analysis, allowing the identification of the thematic incidence through descending hierarchical classification and factorial correspondence analysis. The emerged themes encompassed vaccine, virus origin, social isolation, economic relief, disease mortality, and treatment. Fact-checking agencies assigned varying levels of importance to specific themes, which may reinforce the idea of possible non-neutrality fact-checking journalism. Therefore, freshwater fishes from this region are promising models to infer how riverine isolation and reconnections affected their genetic diversification and geographic distribution. In the present study, we provided a detailed cytogenomic analysis of Ancistrus multispinis and Ancistrus brevipinnis, including the physical mapping of repetitive DNA classes, to verify whether chromosome differentiation would be related to the split between two major watersheds in Southern Brazil. Both species of Ancistrus shared the same modal diploid number (2n=52) and karyotype formulae (14 metacentric, 8 submetacentric and 30 subtelo/acrocentric chromosomes), besides single and terminal 18S ribosomal cistrons, (CGG)10 microsatellite sequences interspersed with heterochromatin in nucleolar organizer regions and a dispersed content of (AC)15 and (GT)15 microsatellites. In turn, the patterns of heterochromatin distribution, number of (GAG)10 microsatellites and 5S rDNA clusters diverged between both taxa. Most likely, these microstructural differences were determined by independent evolutionary processes, strongly associated to the geographic isolation between watersheds.
