Nasal swab samples (n=1114) were derived to Faculty of Veterinary Sciences- UNLP COVID-19 diagnostic unit by the Buenos Aires Province Ministry of Health during June and July 2020, to perform molecular diagnosis of SARS- CoV-2. Samples of RNA were purified in a type II biosafety cabin and analyzed by real time RT-PCR with the GeneFinder™ kit, which amplifies 3 viral target genes (N, E y RdRp). Of the 1110 samples with positive internal control, 458 (41.2%) were positive (26.9% to all target genes, 4.2% to 2 target genes and almost 10% to one gene, mainly N). Percentage of positive samples remained similar throughout the study period, although the sample number was higher in July (781 samples; 315 positive) compared to June (333 samples; 143 positive). Samples from Berisso, Ensenada and La Plata had significantly lower positive rate than those coming from other counties (27.6% versus 60.7%, respectively). Positivity rate was higher in samples from patients with ≥3 clinical signs (55.6%). The present study evaluated the effect of oral administration of ChlA in male Wistar rats exposed to OTA. OTA (0.4 mg/kg bw/day), ChlA (5 mg/kg bw/day), or the combination of both, were administered orally to animals during 28 days. No deaths, decrease in feed consumption or change in the body weight of animals were observed in any group. In the OTA-treated group a decrease in locomotion as well as increased DNA damage in blood, kidney and bone marrow cells were observed. ChlA alone was not genotoxic for animals. The combination of OTA+ChlA decreased the DNA damage by 37% in blood cells, by 55% in kidney cells and by 80% in bone marrow cells compared to OTA-treated group. Para poner en practica medidas adecuadas de control del virus en bioterios, son necesarios metodos de deteccion eficientes, ya sea tecnicas serologicas que ponen en evidencia la presencia de anticuerpos antivirales en el huesped, o tecnicas moleculares como la PCR. El objetivo de este trabajo fue disenar y poner a punto una tecnica de PCR semianidada para la deteccion de ADN viral a partir de muestras de materia fecal y de bazo y, determinar, mediante esta tecnica molecular, la prevalencia del virus en bioterios de Argentina. Diecinueve muestras de pools de heces (del 41,3 % de los bioterios) y 109 muestras de bazo (del 47,82 % de los bioterios) resultaron positivas. La prevalencia a partir del analisis total de las muestras de bazo fue estimada en 23,69 %. This work describes two outbreaks of dictyocaulosis, in two cow-calf farms in Buenos Aires province, Argentina that caused the death of 13.6 and 15.7% of animals, respectively. Existe una controversia acerca de los valores que la proteinuria puede alcanzar en perros sanos. El objetivo de este estudio fue establecer los limites de las concentraciones de las proteinas urinarias que pueden presentarse en caninos sanos utilizando metodos analiticos disponibles en el laboratorio de analisis clinicos veterinarios. La interpretacion de los resultados obtenidos en el analisis de orina requiere la normalizacion de los mismos respecto del estado de hidratacion del paciente. Por esta razon se normalizan los datos obtenidos de proteinuria a la concentracion de creatinina urinaria. La relacion proteina/creatinina indica entonces la concentracion de proteina urinaria normalizada al estado de hidratacion del paciente. Se analizaron 74 muestras de orina provenientes de animales clinicamente sanos y de otros con diversas enfermedades, los que fueron agrupados sobre la base de una proteinuria 300 mg/l (29 muestras). En todas las muestras se determino la relacion concentracion de proteinas/concentracion de creatinina. La comprension de su fisiopatologia es importante para su prevencion, diagnostico y tratamiento. El protocolo diagnostico debe ser estricto, siendo fundamental el rol que cumplen en estos casos el cultivo bacteriano y el antibiograma. Pseudomonas aeruginosaes un microorganismo oportunista e invasor, que constituye en si mismo un factor perpetuante para las otitis cronicas. Ademas de sus factores de virulencia y la resistencia intrinseca a multiples farmacos, forma biopeliculas de proteccion sobre tejidos colonizados y posee gran capacidad para adquirir genes determinantes de resistencia cromosomica y extra cromosomica durante el tratamiento. Los casos cronicos o recurrentes con aislamientos de P. aeruginosa resultan un desafio constante para el veterinario. El oido externo tiene escasa irrigacion, por lo cual los antimicrobianos sistemicos no alcanzan concentraciones adecuadas, siendo la terapia topica la primera eleccion. El exito terapeutico evoluciona hacia la aplicacion de pautas farmacocineticas/farmacodinamicas, desde una concepcion netamente empirica hasta una concepcion cuantitativa, permitiendo describir y simular el efecto de un antibiotico sobre una poblacion bacteriana en funcion del tiempo, mediante la modelizacion matematica de los datos experimentales, con objeto de maximizar la eficacia y minimizar fenomenos de resistencia. EnglishOtitis externa is a frequent disease in veterinary small animal practice. Understanding its pathophysiology is important for prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. The diagnostic protocol must be strict, where bacterial culture and antibiogram play an essential role. Pseudomonas aeruginosa is an opportunistic and invasive microorganism, which by itself constitutes a perpetuating factor for chronic otitis. In addition to its virulence factors and intrinsic resistance to multiple drugs, it forms protective biofilms on colonized tissues, and has a great capacity to acquire genes that determine chromosomal and extra chromosomal resistance during the antibiotic treatment. Management of chronic or recurrent cases of otitis by P. aeruginosa is a constant challenge for veterinarians. Since the outer ear is a scarcely irrigated tissue, the use of systemic antimicrobials does not reach adequate local concentrations, leaving topical therapy as the first choice of treatment. Hoy, como antaño, Analecta Veterinaria se compromete con el saber científico en el área de las ciencias veterinarias, sea este correspondiente a conocimientos básicos, como aquellos que se relacionan con las prácticas clínicas, la producción agropecuaria y los alimentos destinados al consumo humano y animal. \u0000La pandemia del COVID19 ha golpeado, en mayor o en menor medida, sobre cada puerta de nuestro planeta y ha cambiado, en poco tiempo, muchos de los aspectos de nuestras vidas. Las prácticas profesionales se han visto reducidas y los laboratorios de investigación prácticamente están cerrados. Ante esta situación, los resultados que se puedan obtener en los próximos meses surgirán, mayoritariamente, del análisis de los datos obtenidos con anterioridad a la declaración de la pandemia o de los que obtengan aquellos grupos beneficiados a través de los subsidios otorgados por organismos gubernamentales o privados para afrontar la situación epidemiológica. \u0000A partir de todo evento desafortunado surgen las ideas más brillantes para sobrellevarlo y esta pandemia no está exenta de ese principio. Día a día se leen artículos en revistas científicas que proponen nuevos o antiguos tratamientos para combatir al coronavirus. Con una celeridad nunca antes vista estamos conociendo nuevos aspectos de la enfermedad y diferentes grupos de investigadores de diferentes partes del mundo se aúnan para potenciar sus conocimientos. Sin embargo, es tiempo de ser responsables. Es fundamental que los resultados que se pretendan publicar hayan sido científicamente consolidados bajo las estrictas normas del método científico y los estándares de la ética que la situación requiere. Generar conocimiento científico es un proceso lento y tedioso, el que finalmente requiere del rigor de la aceptación por parte de pares. \u0000Desde ANALECTA VETERINARIA instamos a seguir trabajando en beneficio de la ciencia, cada uno en su área específica, dando lo mejor de sí. Con el objetivo de caracterizar estas neoplasias se seleccionaron 117 tumores diagnosticados como sarcomas posinoculacion. Se realizaron estudios histopatologicos e inmunohistoquimicos que permitieron reclasificar los diferentes sarcomas hallados y establecer el porcentaje de celulas proliferantes. Ademas, se consideraron los datos demograficos y se realizaron encuestas a los medicos veterinarios para conocer la evolucion de los pacientes. El diagnostico mas frecuente fue el de fibrosarcoma (87,18%). Tambien, se encontraron, en menor proporcion, otros tumores como: sarcomas pleomorficos (HFM), osteosarcomas extraesqueleticos y mixosarcomas. El grado histologico mas frecuente fue el II y la mayoria presento abundante inflamacion. El promedio de celulas proliferantes alcanzo el 50,12%. La edad de los pacientes al momento del diagnostico fue mayor que la informada por otros autores. Si bien los sarcomas asociados a sitios de inoculacion en la Republica Argentina comparten caracteristicas histopatologicas y clinicas con aquellos informados en otros paises, existen diferencias vinculadas a la edad al momento del diagnostico, a la presentacion de las recidivas y al tiempo de sobrevida, entre otras caracteristicas.
