Sivamaran","doi":"10.48029/nji.2022.cxiii305","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.48029/nji.2022.cxiii305","url":null,"abstract":"Pneumonia has accounted for approximately 15 percent of all hospital-associated infections and 27 percent and 24 percent of all infections acquired in the medical intensive-care unit (ICU) and coronary care unit, respectively. It has been the second most common hospital-associated infection after that of the urinary tract. Because of this tremendous risk, in the last two decades, most of the research on hospital-associated pneumonia has focused on ventilator-associated pneumonia. This study was aimed to assess effi ciency of nursing care package on expected outcome regarding prevention of ventilator associated pneumonia among ventilated clients. A quantitative research approach with quasi experimental research design with pre-and post-test with equivalent control group design was used to carry out the study. Ventilated clients from selected hospitals who were fulfi lling the inclusion criteria were selected by using non-probability convenient sampling technique. Total 40 (20 experimental and 20 control group) size sample was included in the study. In experimental group, majority (50%) had mild infection and only 15 percent had no infection in pre-test; in post-test majority (75%) had no infection and only 25 percent had mild infection and no patient had severe infection. It showed that delivery of nursing care package is effective in decreasing ventilator associated pneumonia. In control group, majority (50%) had mild infection and only 10 percent had no infection in pre-test and in post-test majority (40%) had mild infection and 60 percent had severe infection and no patient had severe infection. As nursing care package was not delivered, the infected cases increased. The effi ciency of nursing care package on expected outcome regarding prevention of ventilator-associated pneumonia between experimental groups was statistically signifi cant and in control group it was not signifi cant. The delivered nursing care package on ventilator-associated pneumonia among ventilated clients proved its benefi cial effects in controlling infection level and preventing ventilator-associated pneumonia at intensive care units. This study confi rmed that nursing care package for ventilated clients can prevent infection and cut short long stay in intensive care units.","PeriodicalId":76706,"journal":{"name":"The Nursing journal of India","volume":"11 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87894901","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One such evaluator measure is the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE). This study was undertaken to explore the perceptions of students on OSCE, assess their level of satisfaction and identify their feedback. A descriptive survey design was adopted for the study and it was conducted at Baby memorial College of Nursing, Kerala among 46 nursing students who had attended OSCE as a part of their practical examination. Consecutive sampling technique was used to identify the subjects. The results showed that there were diverse degrees of perception among students towards OSCE and majority (43%) of them were highly satis ed with the OSCE. The subjects opined OSCE as a good method of evaluation which was stress-free and time-bound and helped to improve practical skills and knowledge. The subjects also found that OSCE was helpful in identifying the weakest areas of their competencies and was more exible. Few of the subjects suggested that it was very hard to communicate with dummies and clinical examination would be better than OSCE.","PeriodicalId":76706,"journal":{"name":"The Nursing journal of India","volume":"34 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82711623","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study sought to assess the prevalence of lactation insuffi ciency and to fi nd out the association between prevalence of lactation insuffi ciency among primipara mothers with selected background variables. This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted in a selected maternity hospital of South India between May–July 2020. A total of 103 mothers in the post-natal wards were selected. Lactation insuffi ciency was assessed using LATCH scoring system. Data were analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Majority of the mothers (53, 52.48%) were in the age group 26-30 years; 56 (54.37%) studied higher secondary; 93 (90.29 %) received information on breastfeeding; 61 (59.23%) had least favourable and 42 (40.77%) had favourable LATCH scores. Chi square revealed no signifi cant association between lactation insuffi ciency and selected background variables among mothers. To conclude, there is a need to strengthen nurse-led lactation support to achieve successful breastfeeding practices.","PeriodicalId":76706,"journal":{"name":"The Nursing journal of India","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79827009","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
