Bostanci, Ozlem Dagli, Mehmet Serdar Guzel","doi":"10.29002/asujse.1090950","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.29002/asujse.1090950","url":null,"abstract":"Given that there are 94 clinics and more than 200,000 patients treated worldwide, proton and carbon are the most used heavily charged particles in heavy-ion (HI) therapy. However, there is a recent increasing trend in using new ion beams. Each HI has a different effect on the target. As each HI moves through the tissue, they lose enormous energy in collisions, so their range is not long. Ionization accounts for the majority of this loss in energy. During this interaction of the heavily charged particles with the target, the particles do not only ionize but also lose energy with the recoil. Recoil occurs by atom-to-atom collisions. With these collisions, crystalline atoms react with different combinations and form cascades in accordance with their energies. Thus, secondary particles create ionization and recoil. In this study, recoil values of Boron(B), Carbon(C), Nitrogen(N), and Oxygen(O) beams in the water phantom were computed in the energy range of 2.0-2.5 GeV using Monte Carlo simulation and the results were compared with carbon. Our findings have shown that C beams have 35.3% more recoil range than B beams, while it has 14.5% and 118.7% less recoil range than N and O beams, respectively. The recoil peak amplitude of C beams is 68.1% more than B beams, while it is 13.1% less than N and 22.9% less than O beams. It was observed that there is a regular increase in the recoil peak amplitude for C and B ions, unlike O and N where such a regularity could not be seen. Moreover, the gaps in the crystal structure increased as the energy increases.","PeriodicalId":7626,"journal":{"name":"Aksaray University Journal of Science and Engineering","volume":"131 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73119088","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is also a common set of tools and methods to assist researchers and practitioners in reviewing and making decisions for resource allocation to new or existing systems. Modeling with simulation is a method that will give important results in other areas such as production systems and service systems. In this study, the functioning of the current situation in the size-packaging department of a production company operating in the packaging sector is modeled in the Arena 14.0 program. The simulation model 15 replications were made and run one day. It is known that the biggest problem in the packaging department is intermediate stocks. For this reason, in this section, it is aimed to reduce cycle time, increase the number of parts and increase the resource utilization rates according to the results of analyzing the situations that lead to bottlenecks and production complexity. Accordingly, various alternative scenarios have been created. The scenarios created were modeled in Arena 14.0 program and compared with each other, the best results of these scenarios were determined as the situation where the new operator and machine allocation were together. In this way, there has been a significant reduction in cycle time, machine and operator usage rates and queuing times. The number of pieces released has also increased by 80. It was not included in the evaluation because cost data was not shared. A more detailed examination can be made by including the cost data in the study.","PeriodicalId":7626,"journal":{"name":"Aksaray University Journal of Science and Engineering","volume":"14 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76998023","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Since the MRI taken from a patient consists of many slices, it may take time for experts to review these images. The aim of the study is to evaluate the specialist's MRI slices more quickly. The image of each MRI slice taken from the patient was applied to the Alexnet transfer learning algorithm and the properties of the image were obtained. These features are optimized with the Relieff feature selection algorithm to achieve optimum success. The highest accuracy has been achieved with the support vector machine classifier, in which optimized features are used. The study was validated with 3 different combinations by training with two datasets and testing with the other. Thus, a method that can work under different conditions were obtained. The performance metrics of the study were obtained by taking the average of the successes obtained from each data set. MRIs were trained with Alexnet transfer learning model and performance analysis was performed on the obtained classification models. The feature optimization used both increased the success to 97.55% and reduced the processing time from 0.4064 to 0.3045 seconds. The proposed model with a high success rate and a rapid classification is expected to assist the expert in both diagnosis and treatment planning.","PeriodicalId":7626,"journal":{"name":"Aksaray University Journal of Science and Engineering","volume":"20 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87317602","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With this metric, the 3dimensional analytical space is a Minkowski geometry which is a non-Euclidean geometry in a finite number of dimensions. In a Minkowski geometry, the unit ball is a certain symmetric closed convex set instead of the usual sphere in Euclidean space. The unit ball of the truncated octahedron geometry is a truncated octahedron which is an Archimedean solid. In this study, first, metric properties of truncated octahedron distance, dTO, in R 2 has been examined by metric approach.
