Cozza","doi":"10.1016/j.mor.2009.11.003","DOIUrl":"10.1016/j.mor.2009.11.003","url":null,"abstract":"<div><h3>Objectives</h3><p>To analyze characteristics, indications and use of Face Mask; to describe the FM/BB protocol based on the combined use of a Delaire face mask and a lower bite block.</p></div><div><h3>Materials and methods</h3><p>With the introduction of facemask therapy it has become possible to move the maxilla forward by extra-oral traction. Farronato","doi":"10.1016/j.mor.2009.10.005","DOIUrl":"10.1016/j.mor.2009.10.005","url":null,"abstract":"<div><h3>Objectives</h3><p>The aim of this work is to show an individualized straight-wire appliance underlining its advantages and disadvantages.</p></div><div><h3>Materials and methods</h3><p>The authors report a case treated with this appliance. The patient was selected among 10 subjects at the end of growth treated with individual appliance.</p></div><div><h3>Results</h3><p>This study allowed to evaluate the results and the features that distinguish this technique. The time of treatment decreased, the results improved and remained more stable. Undesired jiggling movements were avoided.</p></div><div><h3>Conclusions</h3><p>The individualized straight-wire appliance represents an evolution of standard prescriptions. Guariglia","doi":"10.1016/j.mor.2009.12.001","DOIUrl":"10.1016/j.mor.2009.12.001","url":null,"abstract":"<div><h3>Objectives</h3><p>Aim of the study is to identify the basic criteria to choose a surgical treatment for Class III malocclusions together with the fundamental principles of surgical-orthodontic treatment.</p></div><div><h3>Materials and methods</h3><p>In planning the treatment, the clinician must consider the type and severity of the malocclusion, the age of the patient, aesthetic demands and/or functional needs. The choice of osteotomy must be based on aesthetical and morphological considerations, rather than cephalometric measurements. The orthodontic treatment before surgery has to be functional and fit the scheduled ostetomy.</p></div><div><h3>Results</h3><p>The authors report some cases treated with different surgical options, with a follow-up of 2, 5, and 15 years.</p></div><div><h3>Conclusions</h3><p>Surgical treatment is indicated in a very high number of patients affected by Class III malocclusions.
