Abstract
Objectives
The aim of this work is to show an individualized straight-wire appliance underlining its advantages and disadvantages.
Materials and methods
The authors report a case treated with this appliance. The patient was selected among 10 subjects at the end of growth treated with individual appliance.
Results
This study allowed to evaluate the results and the features that distinguish this technique. The time of treatment decreased, the results improved and remained more stable. Undesired jiggling movements were avoided.
Conclusions
The individualized straight-wire appliance represents an evolution of standard prescriptions. An accurate diagnosis gained through radiological examinations and study cast models allows to obtain an individualized prescription of bands and metal or aesthetic brackets and orthodontic archwires of different shapes and dimensions.
