Depending on the specific genetic mutations and the proteins involved, EB can be classified into several subtypes whose molecular complexity is compounded by the variability in mutation types (missense, nonsense, insertions, deletions), their locations within the genes, and the resultant effects on protein function. This systematic review aimed to identify and synthesize available evidence on wound healing interventions and the nutritional profile of children diagnosed with EB. A comprehensive search yielded 28 articles, including 21 clinical trials and seven observational studies, encompassing 994 patients with various EB subtypes. The majority of studies described subtypes such as Simplex EB (EBS), Junctional EB (JEB), Dystrophic EB (DEB), and EB Kindler. The primary interventions for wound healing included dressings with collagen, biocellulose, and various topical creams. Nutritional assessment was limited, with only six studies examining nutritional status, predominantly through anthropometry and dietary intake analysis. Subgroup analyses indicated higher malnutrition rates among patients with DEB compared to JEB. The review underscores the importance of addressing wound healing and nutritional challenges in EB management. The buildup of uric acid due to inadequate excretion leads to uric acid crystal formation. Treatment for gout aims to eliminate the uric acid crystal formation so that inflammation decreases. Traditional gout medication is usually allopurinol, but increasing studies have proven that herbal remedies may be promising. Over the past few years, studies have demonstrated that Simiao powder, a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), is more effective than allopurinol in reducing elevated uric acid. The four main herbs in Simiao powder, Cyathulae Radix, Coicis Semen, Atractoylodes Lancea, and Phellodendri Chinrnsis Cortex combined, possess anti-inflammatory properties that can effectively reduce uric acid. Simiao powder also has properties that can treat metabolic syndrome, which often coexists with gout. Though TCM can be more effective in some ways, combining TCM with Western medicine proves that the two can overlap effectively. Enteral nutrition (EN) support is initiated to meet nutritional requirements and promote growth pre- and post-operatively. Tube-fed infants with congenital heart disease (CHD) who achieve stable health status post-operatively are at risk of becoming feeding tube dependent (FTD). We report a clinical observation for infants with CHD based on survey results from Growing Independent Eaters (GIE), a company that utilizes a home-based, appetite-guided method to transition infants and children from FTD to oral eating. GIE surveyed families who participated in a GIE-led wean from June 2018 to December 2018 for program evaluation, quality improvement, and outcomes measurement. The cohort of 14 infants (ages 0-12 months) was categorized as: CHD only, CHD plus other diagnoses, and no CHD plus other diagnoses. Median wean duration for infants with CHD only (Mdn = 18.0 days, IQR = 9.5-38.5) was similar to infants with CHD plus other diagnoses (Mdn = 25.0 days) but shorter than infants with medical conditions other than CHD (Mdn = 63.0 days, IQR = 28.0-90.0). Mean loss of body weight during the wean was similar for all groups. These observations highlight that the GIE method of enteral weaning provides FTD infants with and without CHD the necessary support to successfully wean off EN, albeit faster for those infants with a diagnosis of CHD. This added to the European socio-economic scenario already weakened by the vital aging of the population, contributes to the loss of active individuals, weakening competitiveness and social and economic sustainability, thus making the prevention of NCDs a European objective. Preventing NCDs with the enrichment of the food environment using algae or their compounds, which are rich in nutrients and bioactivities, is an excellent way to promote healthy eating of ecological and sustainable foods. This strategy generates social, economic, and environmental gains, as well as improvements in health and sustainability. The objective of this study was to verify whether the intake of the recommended dose of fiber caused a decrease in the number of deaths caused by NCDs. The NCD prime scenario modelling tool was populated with demographic data on mortality and food intake for 2016. The results obtained by applying the NCDprime model suggested that with the recommended fiber dose, 4.5% of deaths were averted, and about 30 million euros were saved. The number of prevented deaths and the potential for cost savings represent significant health and economic gains. This review aims to categorize diets according to the new classification of hazardous diets established in 2021. A search was conducted across grey, white, and black literature. The results reveal a study of 179 diets, of which 35 are effective, while the rest are hazardous to health. Looking at the geographical distribution of these diets, the USA, the UK, and Greece dominate the top three spots. The geographic distribution of diets is linked to cultural and environmental factors, with influencers often playing a predominant role. Additionally, the lack of legislative oversight on emerging diets is a noteworthy concern, highlighting the need for regulatory measures to ensure the safety and well-being of individuals engaging in such dietary practices. Regarding the creators of these weight loss treatments, it is noteworthy that only 7.8% are nutrition specialists, all of whom fall under the effective diets category. Nutritional imbalance occurs frequently in patients with IBD. The spectrum of malnutrition goes from undernutrition (low protein-caloric intake, disease-related malnutrition, micronutrient deficiencies) to overnutrition and obesity. The nutritional status of patients with IBD is increasingly recognized as a key aspect of the treatment and must be addressed in all patients. The screening and correction of the deficiencies should be individualized. Except for enteral nutrition in pediatric Crohn’s disease, no clinical evidence supports specific diets. Nevertheless, the role of personalized nutritional interventions as an adjunct therapy is well established. Compelling new data points to a key role of diet in gut inflammation directly or through modulation of intestinal microbiota. It will be of utmost importance to have well-designed longitudinal studies on dietary interventions alone or combined with current therapies. There are a variety of ways children can receive nutrition education in the school setting, such as explicit lessons, modeled dialogue, and exposure to nutrition-based principles. However, there continues to be a disconnect between teacher perceptions of nutrition education and time spent implementing it in the classroom. Nutrition education can come in many forms, including hands-on gardening and explicit discussions on the impact of food choices on overall health. Effective nutrition education in any form elicits numerous benefits for children, but there are a multitude of barriers that inhibit teachers from implementing hands-on gardening into their classrooms—such as time, space, and teacher self-efficacy. Tower Gardens, otherwise known as hydro- and aeroponic, vertical gardening systems, offer an alternative to the space and time required for traditional gardening. Nonetheless, the body of literature surrounding the impact and feasibility of implementing tower gardening systems is limited, specifically in the preschool setting. Therefore, this study explored teachers’ perceptions of and experiences with implementing Tower Gardens into pre-kindergarten 4-year-old (pre-K4) classrooms. A qualitative approach was employed wherein a focus group was conducted with pre-K-4 teachers who integrated Tower Gardens through the Growing Healthy Minds, Bodies, and Communities Curriculum. Findings were analyzed and four themes emerged as follows: (a) novelty of Tower Gardens increases opportunities to learn; (b) a multitude of interactions with growing and food; (c) increased engagement from children; and (d) implementation and positive outcomes for teachers.
