It is important to report those failures.

Methods: Here artemisinin, artesunate and dried leaf slurries of A. annua were used daily for 6 days in vivo against Babesia microti in mice 2 days post infection at 100 µg artemisinin/kg body weight. Two first doctoral theses on Chinese medicine were defended in Poland in the 1930s. Medical acupuncture was introduced in 1978 and taught by Prof. Zbigniew Garnuszewski in Warsaw and officially recognized. The real traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) education started in 1986 in Krakow and after some years of private education the first TCM school was established. In Poland, education in TCM is not regulated until now and different TCM schools have their own curriculum, level and duration of education. There are six associations for acupunture and TCM in Poland. Two of them are really active. TCM and acupuncture are not regulated by Polish law, but they are not prohibited. Acupuncturists as well as herbalist-phytotherapists are officially recognized by the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy. TCM can be practiced clinically by anyone and is not controlled by any professional TCM authorities. The number of TCM clinics is growing all over Poland due to the weakness of the public health system. Many patients are seeking holistic and safe treatment free of negative side effects.","PeriodicalId":74086,"journal":{"name":"Longhua Chinese medicine","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45953957","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
{"title":"The traditional Chinese medicine WuJiaPi (Acanthopanacis cortex) and its main anti-inflammatory terpenoids","authors":"C. Bailly","doi":"10.21037/LCM-21-1","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.21037/LCM-21-1","url":null,"abstract":": The root bark of the plant Acanthopanax gracilistylus is commonly used in traditional Chinese medicine for the treatment of rheumatism, arthritis and other inflammatory pathologies and conditions. The medication, referred to as Acanthopanacis cortex or WuJiaPi, is also used for a long time to strengthen bones (to reduce osteoporosis) and to protect the liver and kidneys. The antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-proliferative properties of WuJiaPi extracts have been well-characterized and associated with the presence of various bioactive terpenoids (such as gracilistones, wujiapiosides) and phenylpropanoid glycosides (such as eleutherosides). Among them, the lupane triterpene acankoreagenin (also known as HLEDA) stands as a potent inhibitor of the NF- κ B signaling pathway, capable of blocking the secretion of the alarmin HMGB1 and reducing the expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines by activated or infected macrophages. Acankoreagenin displays marked anti-inflammatory and anti-oedema actions in vitro and in vivo , comparable to the activity of the analogue impressic acid. This brief review shed light on the biological properties of this pentacyclic sapogenin and its various glycoside derivatives. Among the 16 acankoreosides isolated from various Acanthopanax species, acankoreoside A emerges as one of the most potent regulators of NF- κ B and an efficient blocker of inflammatory cytokines production. Acankoreosides B and D also exhibit significant anti-inflammatory effects. Acankoreagenin, acankoreosides and a few other terpenoids contribute importantly to the efficacy of the WuJiaPi TCM.","PeriodicalId":74086,"journal":{"name":"Longhua Chinese medicine","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46861724","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
