The present study was undertaken to analyze the attitudes of caregivers towards mothers faced with perinatal bereavement.</p><p><strong>Materials and methods: </strong>This is a mixed study carried out from October 5 to November 16, 2023 at the Anyama maternity hospital and which involved 33 caregivers selected by reasoned choice. These were subjected to a semi-structured interview.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>The caregivers surveyed were of both sexes with a female predominance (30/33). Their ages ranged from 25 to 50 years with an average age of 36 years. 30 were midwives compared to 3 gynecologists and their seniority in the profession varied from 5 to 15 years. Comfort (05), silence (18), avoidance (05) and escape (05) were their main attitudes adopted towards mothers faced with perinatal bereavement. {"title":"[Problem Of Deaths Before Admission To Treichville University Hospital (Abidjan - Ivory Coast)].","authors":"Zana Konaté, Zié Moussa Coulibaly, Mouanta Stephanie Maryse Laurel Tanoh, Maureen Audrey Alexandra Senan Azoh, Kouadio Marc Eric Victor Ebouat, Kossua Solange Attoungbré-N'guettia, Mathurin Djodjo, Koffi Botti, Hélène Yapo Ette","doi":"10.4314/mml.v40i3.4","DOIUrl":"10.4314/mml.v40i3.4","url":null,"abstract":"<p><strong>Aim: </strong>The objective of this work was to analyze the epidemiological and medico-legal aspects of pre-hospital deaths (before admission) received at the Treichville University Hospital in order to have current data.</p><p><strong>Materials and methods: </strong>We carried out a retrospective study with a descriptive aim between July 2022 and February 2023, focusing on \"deaths before admission\" to the emergency room of the Treichville University Hospital.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>The victims were couples (48.9%), male (61.7%) with an average age of 50.1 years +/- 19.26 and working in the informal sector (52.8%). The patients came from home (83.8%) by taxi (76%) or personal vehicle (12%). The duration of the evacuation was 2 to 3 hours (86.8%). Deaths were recorded on arrival at the hospital between 6 p.m. and 11:59 p.m. (28.5%). These were natural deaths (89.8%) occurring due to complications of a known disease (70.2%) or sudden death (19.6%).</p><p><strong>Conclusion: </strong>Death before admission to hospital remains a major concern for practitioners and constitutes a real public health problem. Radiographic exploration of the hands and feet had objectified multiple enchondromatosis of the hands and right knee associated with agenesis of the phalanges of the 1st and 2nd rays of the right hand. We aimed to study the epidemiological, diagnostic, therapeutic, and prognostic aspects of CRC from 2013 to 2023 in the main services caring for digestive cancers in Cotonou.</p><p><strong>Patients and methods: </strong>this was a descriptive, analytical and retrospective study involving patients with CRC treated in specialized services in Cotonou (CU-CV, CU-MI, CU-HGE, CCC).</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>a total of 194 cases of CRC were recorded out of 13,857 patients (1.4%) seen during the study period. The median age was 53 years with an interquartile range of [40-64] years. The sex-ratio was 1.3; the median duration of evolution before diagnosis was 8.4 months with an interquartile range of [5-12.1] months. Constipation (78.8%), abdominal pain (71.5%), and hematochezia (61.8%) were the most frequent signs. Palliative chemotherapy with the FOLFOX protocol was the most commonly used (68.8%). The median overall survival was 22.5 mouths, and the 5-year survival rate was 5%. Predictive factors for mortality where the duration of evolution before diagnosis (p<0,001), the World health Organization performance status (p<0,01), and the absence of chemotherapy (p=0,026).</p><p><strong>Conclusion: </strong>CRC have a very poor prognosis in Cotonou. Our study population Child aged 0 to 15 years victim of trauma having benefited from at least a 24-hour observation at the SAU Gabriel TOURE. The entry was made using Word2013 software; the data were analyzed using SPSS version 26 software. The statistical tests used were Chi square and Fischer's exact test. The test was significant for a value of p < 0.05.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>During this study period, 12,092 admissions were made, including 276 head injuries in children, or 2.28%. Our study showed a strong male predominance with (73.6%) and a sex ratio of 2.78. The victims ranged in age from 0 months to 15 years. Road accidents (AVP) were mostly incriminated in the etiology of head trauma generally affecting students in 73.2% of cases. Seventeen percent of our patients had a Glasgow score (GCS) < 8 on admission; As functional signs, we noted headaches, vomiting, dizziness, loss of consciousness, drowsiness and even coma. The physical signs were deformation of the skull, craniofacial wounds and edema around the opening. The traumatic lesions were most often temporal and were located on the right. Two hundred and sixty-two out of 276 head trauma victims were able to perform a brain CT scan in 95% of cases. Forty-six percent of our patients had a treatment delay of between 3 and 12 hours. As medical treatment, analgesics were used in all our patients. The lifting of the jamb was the most common surgical procedure with 72.2%. Hyperthermia was the most common secondary cerebral insult of systemic origin (ACSOS) with 10.5%. Patients were transferred in 74.3% of cases, or 205, and the neurosurgery department was the service requested in 52.9%. The Chi2 test was used to determine the factors associated with the use of alternative medicine.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>A total of 448 participants were recruited, including 243 (54.2%) in urban area. The M/F sex ratio was 1.53. The most represented age group was 20 to 35 years old 282 (62.9%). The average age was 34.65±12.63 years. In the study, 197 (44.0%) participants in rural areas and 235 (56.6%) in urban areas had heard of alternative medicine. The participants had heard more about alternative medicine through relatives 110 (53.6%) and 125 (51.4%) in rural and urban areas respectively. The prevalence of use of alternative medicine was 92.6% (415). The study found that 430 (96%) participants were satisfied with alternative medicine. Our inclusion criteria were a complete medical record and having a pre-transfusion hemogram. The variables studied were age, sex, reason for hospitalization, diagnosis, blood count data and blood group.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>A total of 107 patients were included. The sex ratio was 1.01, with a mean age of 25 years [3; 70]. Osteoarticular pain was the main reason for hospitalization (50.4%). Homozygous sickle cell disease accounted for most diagnoses (56.67%). The mean pre-transfusion hemoglobin level was 6.5g/dl, and blood group O+ was the most prescribed (50.5%). The ultimate compatibility test was carried out in all our patients (100%), and no accidents were detected.</p><p><strong>Conclusion: </strong>Blood transfusion is a routine procedure in the clinical hematology department of Yopougon University Hospital. However, recent research has explored its use as an oral toxin targeting adult mosquitoes through toxic sugar baits. This review highlights the properties, action mechanism, and efficacy of Bti in this formulation. Its appeal lies in its mosquito specificity, low environmental impact, and potential to overcome insecticide resistance. However, challenges remain regarding the optimization of formulations and the assessment of its long-term efficacy in natural conditions.
