Aim: The study is to ascertain their behavior and acceptance of vaccination against COVID-19 pandemic. To find out the precautionary measures taken during the pandemic, number infected and the acceptance of vaccine and the reason for non-acceptance for those that did not accept the vaccine. Methods: A questionnaire/data sheet was developed for the study. Information on sociodemographic characteristics, behaviors in terms of spread and prevention as well as vaccination were obtained. The study details were explained to the clients and only those that signed informed consent were recruited. The data were fed into the computer using SPSS version 25, Illinoi USA and analysis done. Results: Four hundred and twenty-two persons were recruited. The mean age of 34±10.6 and ranged between 16 to 74years. There was high knowledge of COVID 19 existence in the group but with very poor knowledge of spread 19.6% and preventive measures 21.4%. Awareness of availability of vaccine was also high 92.3% but the uptake was low 21.4%. Fear of side effect was the major reason for the low uptake. Some also believe vaccine is a scam. Most of the vaccinated ones received just a dose. Some of the respondents had COVID 19 but survived. Conclusion: The knowledge of the existence of the disease in the population studied was high but the knowledge of spread and prevention was very low including very low uptake of vaccines against the pandemic.","PeriodicalId":73682,"journal":{"name":"Journal of community medicine & public health","volume":"72 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134945714","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The data was gathered using an online-based google form distributed via social media. 461 participants met the inclusion criteria and were included in the analysis. The focus was exploring the side effects experienced after receiving first, second, or booster doses of Pfizer, AstraZeneca, or Moderna vaccines. Pain at injection site was the most commonly experienced side effect after receiving Pfizer as a first, second, or booster dose, whereas myocarditis and thromboembolism and pericarditis were rarely associated with Pfizer. Pain at injection site was the most common side effect with AstraZeneca as a first and second dose and myocarditis and thromboembolism have been rarely reported with AstraZeneca. Regarding Moderna as a booster dose, respondents most frequently reported pain at the injection site, and myocarditis and pericarditis were rarely reported. Overall, most of the reported side effects of Pfizer, AstraZeneca, and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines were minor, and life-threatening side effects were extremely rare.","PeriodicalId":73682,"journal":{"name":"Journal of community medicine & public health","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135426812","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Patients and methods: Patients from a French prospective cohort who were hospitalized for COVID-19 were clinically assessed at 12 (M12) and 24 months (M24) post-discharge. Multiple scores were used: the modified Medical Research Council score (mMRC), the Fatigue Severity Scale (FSS) and the Short Form 12 (SF12). We compared scores at M12 versus M24 and SF12 scores at M24 versus population norms. Results: Ninety patients completed both M12 and M24 follow-ups. About 30% presented dyspnea at M24 versus 47% at M12. No difference was found between mMRC, FSS and SF12 scores between M12 and M24. The total number of symptoms experienced at M24 was significantly lower than at M12. Conclusions: Even after 24 months after SARS-CoV2 infection onset, patients still experience physical symptoms (i.e. dyspnea, fatigue), and an altered quality of life compared to the general population.","PeriodicalId":73682,"journal":{"name":"Journal of community medicine & public health","volume":"127 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135255932","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Unfortunately, many people at risk often do not seek treatment or are very late in starting treatment. Objectives: The aim of this study was to analyse the use of post-exposure prophylaxis among exposed subjects in the town of Dabou. Method: This was a descriptive and analytical cross-sectional study conducted over a three-month period in Dabou. Data were collected by interview using a questionnaire. The data were analysed using EPI INFO software version 6.04. Comparisons were made using the Chi 2 test with a threshold of 5%. Results: Of the 322 subjects exposed, 67.1% were male with an average age of 20 years. 51% of the victims were from the Wrood and Ancien Dabou neighbourhoods and 53% had secondary education. 61.1% of cases were exposed to bites, 83% of which were caused by dogs, and 13% by PEP. In 42.5% of cases, the exposed subjects had sought medical attention within 48 hours. It should be noted that negligence, ignorance, lack of financial resources and the remoteness of rabies centres are the socio-economic and behavioural factors responsible for the delay in seeking PEP. Conclusion: Rabies remains a major public health problem in Côte d’Ivoire, where the main animal species involved is the dog. Rabies control strategies must focus on raising awareness and, more specifically, on the use of PEP.","PeriodicalId":73682,"journal":{"name":"Journal of community medicine & public health","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135486955","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim is to identify the factors that affect the quality of life of the patient diagnosed with COVID-19 one year after ICU discharge. Observational, descriptive, and cross-sectional study carried out in the Resuscitation Unit of the General University Hospital Consortium of Valencia with 417 patients admitted in the first year of the pandemic. Deceased patients and those with cognitive dysfunction were excluded. Data were collected through a self-administered online questionnaire that included the Short Form of the Health Survey (SF-36) to assess quality of life. Mann-Whitney’s U, Kruskal-Wallis, Chi-square tests and multiple linear regression analyses were applied, accepting a level of statistical significance at p≤0.05. We worked with a sample of (n=122). For an interval confidence of 95%, all dimensions of quality of life were negatively related to sequelae, depression, and anxiety. Significant results were found for: “Physical functioning” [R2=.418 (F=29.956 (p<.001)]; for “Emotional Well-being” [R2=.511 (F=43.161 (p<.001)]; in the case of “Vitality” [R2=.559 (F=52.127 (p<.001)] and for “General Health” [R2=.569 (F=54.251 (p<.001)]. The dimension “Emotional role” was also influenced by marital status [R2=.427 (F=23.510 (p<.001)]. The models indicate that the presence of sequelae and high levels of anxiety and depression negatively affect all dimensions of quality of life one year after discharge from the ICU.","PeriodicalId":73682,"journal":{"name":"Journal of community medicine & public health","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135886746","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The objective of this study is to describe the relationship between smoking cessation and weight change among Latino adults who smoke participating in a mobile smoking cessation program. This study is a secondary data analysis of 208 participants enrolled in the Decídetexto, an mHealth smoking cessation randomized trial. The primary cessation outcomes were cotinine-verified 7-day point prevalence abstinence and self-reported abstinence at month 6. Weight and BMI were collected at baseline and month 6. Changes in weight and BMI between baseline and 6 months were associated with cessation outcomes. The average baseline weight was 83.4±40.1 lbs, the average BMI was 29.6±6.2, and most of the participants (n=160, 76.9%) were classified as overweight or obese. Participants who self-report abstinence gained 1.58 more pounds than those who did not quit (P=0.01, 95% CI [1.39, 10.47]). Participants who quit smoking validated with cotinine levels gained 3.41 more pounds compared to those who did not quit (P=0.02, 95% CI [0.67, 8.16]). Self-reported abstinence participants also had higher relative weight gain than participants who did not quit (P=0.01, 95% CI [0.83, 5.43]). BMI index did not change and was not correlated to cessation outcomes. Smoking cessation was related to weight gain among Latino adults who smoke, but BMI index did not change. This suggests that a culturally tailored mobile smoking cessation program can mitigate weight gain in this population.","PeriodicalId":73682,"journal":{"name":"Journal of community medicine & public health","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135097577","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Sick-leave Program after Myocardial Infarction 心肌梗塞后病假计划
Journal of community medicine & public health Pub Date : 2023-09-04 DOI: 10.29011/2577-2228.100359
{"title":"Sick-leave Program after Myocardial Infarction","authors":"","doi":"10.29011/2577-2228.100359","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.29011/2577-2228.100359","url":null,"abstract":"Aim: This study aims to compare the cost-effectiveness of a structured sick-leave program to usual care sick leave management in patients after an uncomplicated myocardial infarction. Methods: One hundred and forty-three patients admitted to Oslo University Hospital with an acute uncomplicated myocardial infarction were included in the study and randomized into either the intervention group or the conventional care group. The intervention group received a structured program with full-time sick leave for two weeks after discharge, followed by an individualized return-to-work plan. The conventional group received no special follow-up regarding sick leave. The study assessed sick-leave duration, quality of life using the UBQ-H and SF-36 questionnaires and calculated the incremental cost per quality-adjusted life year (QALY) saved. Results: The structuralized sick-leave program led to significantly fewer days absent from work compared to conventional care. There were no significant differences in quality of life between the study groups. The incremental net savings of -$797 per patient in the intervention group were significantly higher (p<0.001), suggesting a potential impact on overall health costs. Conclusion: The study highlights the potential benefits of implementing a structured sick-leave program in reducing healthcare costs without negatively affecting patients’ quality of life and 1-year outcome. However, the study’s limitations, including a small sample size and short follow-up period, call for further investigation with larger cohorts and longer-term assessment. Implementing structured sick leave programs could have a substantial economic impact and improve outcomes for patients after myocardial infarction.","PeriodicalId":73682,"journal":{"name":"Journal of community medicine & public health","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135497310","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
