Patients under this treatment may experience a variety of side effects. Oral mucositis, gastrointestinal toxicity, nephrotoxicity, and myelosuppression are the commonest ones [5,6]. Only up to 11% of patients may develop a form of neurotoxicity [1]. MTX induced Abstract Methotrexate (MTX) is a cytotoxic antimetabolite, which interferes with folic acid metabolism. The term high dose Methotrexate (HDMTX) refers to doses over 500 mg /m2 which are currently used to treat not only hematological malignancies but also solid neoplasms. Patients receiving intravenous (IV) HDMTX as part of their regime often experience a variety of side effects such as oral and gastrointestinal mucositis, nephrotoxicity and bone marrow suppression. Approximately 11% of these patients develop neurological symptoms and signs suggestive of MTX induced neurotoxicity, a condition, which is further, classified as acute, subacute and chronic depending on the time of onset. In this report we present a 22-year-old female with a high grade chondroblastic osteosarcoma of the pelvis who developed an isolated central facial nerve palsy acutely after the administration of IV HDMTX. Furthermore, we conducted a narrative review using Pubmed and included all patients with osteosarcoma who developed a transient or a permanent neurologic deficit during their treatment with IV HDMTX. Most patients presented with symptoms involving higher cognitive function, seizures and stroke like symptoms. To our knowledge this is the first case with isolated central facial nerve palsy acutely after the administration of IV HDMTX.","PeriodicalId":72279,"journal":{"name":"Archives of clinical and biomedical research","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"69341533","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study used the ATP tool to evaluate cleaning protocols composed of either a quaternary ammonium compound plus biguanide (QACB) or bleach only. No statistical difference was found (p = 0.450) between QACB and bleach protocols, both being effective in hospital ward cleaning. So, it is possible to conclude that the use of QACB or bleach protocols ensures appropriate cleaning in health care, promoting a safe environment for patient use.","PeriodicalId":72279,"journal":{"name":"Archives of clinical and biomedical research","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135838231","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A infecção causada por H. pyloriestá associada com algumas enfermidades gástricas. Entretanto, estudos mais recentes têm demonstrado a etiologia do microrganismo em doenças extra gástricas, como doenças metabólicas. O trabalho teve como objetivo realizar uma pesquisa na literatura de artigos que avaliaram a associação da infecção por H. pyloricom doenças metabólicas, com foco em diabetes. Foram utilizadas as seguintes bases de dados, PubMed, Medline, LILACS e SciELO. Termos combinados juntamente com o operador booleano “AND” em português e em inglês foram empregados. O resultado do levantamento bibliográfico totalizou 31 artigos. A infecção por H. pyloripossivelmente está relacionada com a síndrome metabólica. A relação pode ser decorrente da inflamação crônica, redução dos movimentos gastrointestinais, falta de secreção de ácido gástrico e interferência na produção ou secreção de alguns hormônios. Apesar dos estudos demonstrarem que entre os indivíduos infectados por H.pyloria prevalência da síndrome metabólica é maior e que a erradicação do microrganismo favorece a melhora dos índices glicêmicos, mais pesquisas são requeridas. A compreensão da etiologia da infecção porH. pyloriem doenças metabólicas, pode auxiliar em políticas públicas de erradicação da bactéria.","PeriodicalId":72279,"journal":{"name":"Archives of clinical and biomedical research","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135843297","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

AEF is a pathologic communication between the aortic lumen and any portion of the gastrointestinal tract. Without prompt intervention, the associated mortality approaches 100%. Early clinical suspicion is essential for a successful outcome and the role of imaging is fundamental to diagnose it. Owing to its widespread availability, short acquisition time, and high resolution, CT with intravenous contrast has become the first-line modality for imaging evaluation of suspected aorto-enteric fistula.","PeriodicalId":72279,"journal":{"name":"Archives of clinical and biomedical research","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135844617","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This enables efficient microbial enrichment for applications such as microbial abundance estimation and is particularly beneficial for metagenomic samples with a very high fraction of non-target reads (> 99% can be human reads). However, read-until requires a fast and accurate software filter that analyzes a short prefix of a read and determines if it belongs to a microbe of interest (target) or not. The baseline Read Until pipeline uses a deep neural network-based basecaller called Guppy and is slow and inaccurate for this task (~60% of bases sequenced are unclassified). We present RawMap, an efficient CPU-only microbial species-agnostic Read Until classifier for filtering non-target human reads in the squiggle space. RawMap uses a Support Vector Machine (SVM), which is trained to distinguish human from microbe using non-linear and non-stationary characteristics of ONT's squiggle output (continuous electrical signals). Compared to the baseline Read Until pipeline, RawMap is a 1327X faster classifier and significantly improves the sequencing time and cost, and compute time savings. We show that RawMap augmented pipelines reduce sequencing time and cost by ~24% and computing cost by 22%. Additionally, since RawMap is agnostic to microbial species, it can also classify microbial species it is not trained on. We also discuss how RawMap may be used as an alternative to the RT-PCR test for viral load quantification of SARS-CoV-2.</p>","PeriodicalId":72279,"journal":{"name":"Archives of clinical and biomedical research","volume":"7 1","pages":"45-57"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC10022530/pdf/nihms-1875752.pdf","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"9705992","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
