As part of the processes in organizations, knowledge leads to improvements in their development and productivity (Muñoz and Riverola, cited by Flores 2005); therefore, they must adapt to the demands of a competitive and changing international world. Year after year, administration, specifically those areas that comprise it, results in different themes being developed considering administrative practice worldwide. Considering this, an essay is carried out as a result of exploring the research trends in administration with the goal of conducting a comparative analysis between the current research trends in the field of administration published in journals and the holographic cultural model proposed by Dr. Antonio Castañeda Ríos, and in the process, verifying if the holographic cultural model is still relevant or alternatively describing the trends that are not included in the aforementioned model. Journals that compile research from all over the world have been consulted to identify predominant themes, and it was found that current trends in the field of administration agree with the general lines of research set out in the Holographic Cultural Model. Prasad","doi":"10.14738/abr.124.16842","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.14738/abr.124.16842","url":null,"abstract":"Chemotherapy and radiation therapy have produced increased 5-year survival rate in majority of cancers; however, acute side-effects during treatment and late adverse effects after these therapies remain a major concern of oncologists. To improve further 5-year survival rate and reduce acute and late adverse effects of therapies, a new non-toxic biological approach is needed. Experimental data for such an approach was available for over 25 years. For example, therapeutic doses of antioxidants inhibit the growth of cancer cells and enhances the growth-inhibitory effects of chemotherapeutic agents and x-irradiation on cancer cells but not on normal cells. These exciting observations failed to draw any attention from oncologists, because mechanistic data on therapeutic doses was not available until now. The mechanistic data on preventive doses of antioxidants suggested that they scavenge free radicals. Since one of the mechanisms of action of chemotherapy and radiation therapy on cancer cells is mediated by free radicals, oncologists fear that supplementation with antioxidants may reduce the effectiveness of cancer therapies by neutralizing free radicals. Cancer cells require glucose and glutamine for their survival and proliferation. This review briefly describes the effects of therapeutic doses of antioxidants alone and in combination with chemotherapy and radiation therapy on the growth of neoplastic cells and normal cells. It also presents evidence to show that such doses of antioxidants reduce the uptake and metabolism of glucose and glutamine in cancer cells. The corresponding null hypothesis stated that the joint effect of competitive strategies, competitive advantage, ethical values and corporate reputation on performance of accredited universities in Kenya is not significantly different from the independent effects of predictor variables. This study was anchored on Industrial organization theory, Stakeholders’ theory, Resource-based theory and Virtue’s ethics theory. Descriptive cross-sectional survey was used. The population of the study comprised 53 accredited universities. To collect data, semi structured questionnaires were administered online while a few were dropped and picked later. Data was analyzed using regression models. Findings from the test of hypotheses showed that the joint effect of competitive strategies, competitive advantage, ethical values and corporate reputation on performance was significantly different from the independent effects of predictor variables and thus the null hypothesis was rejected. The study outcomes contributed to theory, policy, and management practice where policy makers in higher education and university managers were recommended to establish a policy framework that observes ethical practices; quality programs, reliable training, research and adoption of competitive strategies such as market penetration, strategic alliances, product development focus, differentiation and cost leadership. A single respondent was deemed to introduce bias in choosing responses and was a limitation to the study. However, use of questionnaires reduced subjectivism in responses. The study employed an ex-post facto research design, the estimation techniques utilized were feasible generalized least squares (FGLS) on a sample of five insurance companies were taken. The key variables used in the analysis included net profit margin (NPM) as dependent variable and claims processing efficiency (CPE), risk management effectiveness (RME), and regulatory compliance (RC) as independent variables. The findings displayed that claims processing efficiency (β =0.185, p > 0.05) had positive but no significant effect with net profit margin, risk management effectiveness rate (β =105.910, p > 0.05) is positive but not significantly influencing in net profit margin, regulatory compliance also have negative but does not significantly impact net profit margin of the selected insurance companies in Nigeria at 1% level (β =-12.504, p > 0.05).
