First, a brief sketch of the history of the philosophical vegetarianism is offered. This overview will allow several contemporary concerns about agricultural systems, resultant environmental harms, threats to public health, food insecurity, and dietary choices to be historically contextualized and interrelated. The conceptual map presented more or less chronologically here does not pretend to be comprehensive. But despite its necessary incompleteness and unavoidable selectivity the hope is that it may prove of modest use to inform food-secure consumers who enjoy a range of healthy food options, desire to safeguard public health, support sustainable agriculture, maintain ecological integrity, and work for climate stability.","PeriodicalId":72276,"journal":{"name":"Archives in biomedical engineering & biotechnology","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46246333","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this sense, compression of medical images is important for efficient use of database. The main purpose of image compression is to reduce the number of bits representing the image while preserving the image quality and the intensity level of the pixels as much as possible depending on grayscale or RGB image [1]. Since medical images also contain diagnostic information about a disease or an artifact, less or no loss of detail in terms of quality is desired while compressing the significant areas. Otherwise, there may be difficulties or misdiagnosis in the treatment planning. With the lossless image compression technique, it is possible to preserve the entire pixel data while reducing the image size. The disadvantage of this technique is that it does not gain high memory size due to the low compression performance. On the other hand, higher compression ratios can be obtained by compromising redundant data with the lossy compression technique. Loss of image quality seems to be a risky condition in terms of correct diagnosis, but it is possible to reach acceptable compression rates and control data loss by setting appropriate parameters without losing diagnostic information. Adaptive image compression (AIC) is a hybrid technique that combines both lossless and lossy image compression techniques [2,3]. When applying AIC, it is primarily necessary to detect regions of interest in order to determine which regions will be compressed as lossy or lossless. After determining the focused or noticeable regions of radiologist on graph, it is possible to sort and adaptively compress these regions by importance. If the first order region is considered as the area containing the most information for the diagnosis, lossless compression can be applied here so as to avoid loss of detail. If there are second, third, and continuing order regions of interest, it may be preferable to adaptively compress these areas with little loss. Non-ROI (Non-Region of Interest) parts can be considered as less important or healthy areas in the diagnostic sense. Therefore, higher compression ratios can be achieved by compromising more details for these regions. After applying AIC, reconstructed image should be evaluated as sufficient and acceptable by the physician in terms of diagnostic information. Thus, the compressed images are recommended to be evaluated with subjective criteria in addition to objective criteria.","PeriodicalId":72276,"journal":{"name":"Archives in biomedical engineering & biotechnology","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47918517","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Information concepts are largely used day by day in our informational age, the microelectronic intelligent systems assure us a comfortable communication at distance and unify our knowledge around the earth. We speak about Bits, internet and television and benefit of telecommunication and computer systems to be informed, but little data we know actually on how our brain acts, as an interface with our internal and external world and on consciousness, this knowledge spectrum which illuminates our life, even less. The advances in information science and technology, starting with the statement concepts on information and its evaluation [1] and continuing with operating mode of microcircuits and microprocessors in the intelligent systems today, and with the specific terminology and investigation/ evaluation tools allow to initiate the approach of the brain operation mode by analogy with microprocessors, complex units of informational processing in computers [2,3]. Artificial intelligence was also a stimulating way to approach also consciousness from the artificial neuronal networks point of view [4]. The medicinal plants use throughout the world has reached very significant economic figures [2], although its usage in folk medicine has been recognized for hundreds of years in different regions of the planet. Thus, investment is justified in studies related to its active principles as well as new plant species with potential medicinal application, especially in Brazil, which, despite of its wide diversity of species already described, still presents large collection to be discovered and explored. Proof of this is the enormous effort of Brazilian scientists to study the biodiversity of higher plants in the country in recent years, reflecting in the number of publications in international journals between 2011 and 2013, totaling 10000 publications in that period [3]. As another propellant factor, there is still growing interest in the use of phytotherapics and medicinal plants worldwide, especially in Brazil, where it was observed between 2013 and 2015 growth of 161% in the search for treatments based on medicinal plants and Herbal medicines by the Unified Health System (SUS), notably for treatment of Burns, gastritis and ulcers, according to data from Ministry of Health, [3]. *Corresponding author: Parreira AG, University of the State of Minas Gerais, Divinopolis MG Unit and Federal University of Sao Joao Del Rei Campus CCO, Brazil. Glomerular filtration rate (GFR), which is a marker of chronic kidney disease (CKD), declines with age in healthy adults [1]. CKD is defined as a condition with an estimated GFR (eGFR) of less than 60 mL/min per 1.73 m2 or continuous presence of kidney impairment (e.g., albuminuria) for 3 months or longer [2]. The Hisayama Study Group has investigated the relationship between CKD and vascular risk and reported that the former was an important risk factor for cardiovascular disease [3] and that people with metabolic syndrome had a higher incidence of CKD [4]. CKD has also been established as an independent risk factor for cerebrovascular disease (CVD) and cardiovascular disease [5,6].
