The circular exit nozzle is parabolic in shape. So; spray pattern with the rectangular nozzle is wider than that with the circular spray nozzle. The goal of this investigation is to establish a design for the cold spray gun nozzle to gain more uniform spray profile of coatings. We have investigated the influence of expansion ratio; nozzle total length and the ratio of nozzle length of divergent section and parallel section of rectangular nozzle on behaviors of gas and particle by the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) in high pressure cold spraying. We have studied copper particles so far. In this study; we will examine aluminum particles. First; we investigate the influence of the size and shape of the rectangular section nozzle on the velocity; temperature; and particle distribution of aluminum particles by CFD. After that; the rectangular section nozzles were fabricated and coating formation experiments were conducted; spray patterns and coating cross-sectional structures were observed; and coating adhesion was also evaluated. The nozzle material was polybenzimidazole resin; which is difficult for aluminum particles to attach to nozzle walls.","PeriodicalId":70745,"journal":{"name":"热喷涂技术","volume":"6 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-05-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75963068","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to the differing heat transfer coefficients of laminar and turbulent flow, the point of transition can be detected by heating the surface and measuring surface temperature by thermographic imaging. Locating the transition point is crucial for the aerodynamic optimization of components. In this study, fiber reinforced polymer composites (FRPCs) were chosen as the test substrate. Experiments were conducted using the flame spray process and NiCrAlY coatings. Multilayered coatings consisting of an aluminum bond coat, a layer of alumina as electrical insulation, and a heating layer of titania were fabricated by atmospheric plasma spraying. Free-flight tests were conducted with a functionalized winglet in order to assess the ability of thermally-sprayed heating elements to detect the location of transition of the flow regime. The results showed that the thermally-sprayed elements heat surfaces uniformly, with sufficient radiation losses for thermographic imaging. It was also shown that the change in temperature at the point of transition was readily observable using thermography.","PeriodicalId":70745,"journal":{"name":"热喷涂技术","volume":"5 2 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-05-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89689982","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The ever-evolving special treatment methods require adapting the masking solutions so they retain their efficiency and quality level. This paper will describe the choices made in combining materials; geometry and surface finish of the masks to provide the necessary compliance with the thermal spraying processes or other special treatment requirements. We will demonstrate that successful masking designs are often the result of close collaboration between the operator’s engineering team and the masking solutions provider in order to comply with what is always a bespoke process. Innovations in materials and additive manufacturing enable the process towards tailored solutions which enable these industries to increase their productivity and level of manufacturing quality.","PeriodicalId":70745,"journal":{"name":"热喷涂技术","volume":"18 6 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-05-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78131380","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The (Co,Ni)O solid solution is a potential material for inert anode applications in aluminum production. SPS coatings and in-flight collected particles are studied to gain further insight into the melting and mixing phenomena of the NiO and CoO powders as well as phase formation in the deposited coatings. Moreover, the role of suspension feedstock particle sizes on the microstructure of coatings is discussed. SEM, EDS and X-ray diffraction studies helped better understanding the formation of different crystalline phases within the as-sprayed coatings. It was found that the formation of metallic nickel is possible in the coatings. The results support the importance of substrate temperature on the formation of metallic Ni, so that keeping the substrate at low temperature results in an increase of the Ni content in the coatings. In this study, possible causes for the formation of metallic Ni during spraying are discussed.","PeriodicalId":70745,"journal":{"name":"热喷涂技术","volume":"11 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-05-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85357184","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this work, Ni-5wt%Al coatings were deposited by twin-wire arc spraying (TWAS) on tool steel using a design of experiments approach to study the effect of process parameters on coating microstructure and performance. Test results presented in the form of process maps show how N2 pressure, stand-off distance, and current affect in-flight particle velocity and temperature as well as coating thickness and oxide content. Using this information, optimized coatings were then deposited on test substrates and subjected, along with uncoated tool steel, to several hours of molten aluminum attack. The coated samples showed no signs of physical or chemical damage, whereas the uncoated substrates experienced oxidation, aluminum infiltration, and formation of Fe-Al intermetallics.","PeriodicalId":70745,"journal":{"name":"热喷涂技术","volume":"206 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-05-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77055639","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Based on microstructural features (i.e., particle weight fraction, particle size, and porosity) of the MMC coatings, representative volume elements (RVEs) were generated by using Digimat software and then imported into ABAQUS/Explicit. State-of-the-art physics-based modelling approaches were incorporated into the model to account for particle cracking, interface debonding, and ductile failure of the matrix. This allowed for analysis and informing on the deformation and failure responses. The model was validated with experimental results for cold-sprayed Al-18 wt.% Al2O3, Al-34 wt.% Al2O3, and Al-46 wt.% Al2O3 metal matrix composite coatings under quasi-static compression by comparing the stress versus strain histories and observed failure mechanisms (e.g., matrix ductile failure). The results showed that the computational framework is able to capture the response of this cold-sprayed material system under compression and indentation, both qualitatively and quantitatively. The outcomes of this work have implications for extending the model to materials design and under different types of loading (e.g., erosion and fatigue).","PeriodicalId":70745,"journal":{"name":"热喷涂技术","volume":"11 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-05-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89390149","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this emerging application, the mechanical properties of the coating are strongly affected by the interfacial bond between the coating and the substrate. This paper presents an analytical study of the interfacial stress distribution based on piezoresistive-stress constitutive relation of a coating layer. Both a single layer coating- and a bilayer coating-substrate system were considered. An analytical solution of the interfacial stress was developed by solving a Fredholm-Volterra singular integro-differential equation of a coating-substrate model using Chebyshev polynomials. Numerical simulation was conducted to analyze the effects of geometric and effective material properties of the coating-substrate system on the interfacial stress distribution. It was found that the susceptibility of the piezoresistive layer to delamination primarily relies on thicknesses of the coating layers and the stiffness of the intermediary insulating layer and substrate.","PeriodicalId":70745,"journal":{"name":"热喷涂技术","volume":"2 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-05-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88915539","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Zr-alloys have very good neutron transparency; but during a loss of coolant accident or beyond design basis accident (BDBA) they can undergo excessive oxidation in reaction with the surrounding steam environment. Relatively thin oxidationresistant coatings on Zr-alloy fuel cladding tubes can potentially buy coping time in these off-normal scenarios. In this study; cold spraying; solid-state powder-based materials deposition technology has been developed for deposition of oxidation-resistant Cr coatings on Zr-alloy cladding tubes; and the ensuing microstructure and properties of the coatings have been investigated. The coatings when deposited under optimum conditions have very good hydrothermal corrosion resistance as well as oxidation resistance in air and steam environments at temperatures in excess of 1100 °C; while maintaining excellent adhesion to the substrate. A “crack-filling” mechanism was described as the deposition mechanism that allowed deposition of tin onto the CFRP. Improving the coating conductivity for lightning strike protection (LSP) purposes was achieved by adding other metal powders (aluminum; copper; zinc) to tin and cold spraying on the CFRP. At the same time; it was noticed that the addition of this secondary component (SC) provided an increase in deposition efficiency (DE); tamping was initially hypothesized to explain this improvement; thus prompting a study solely on the effect of SC hardness; which is reported elsewhere in this conference. However; it is recognised that other powder characteristics may also be influencing the DE. Thus; in this study; SCs with a wider variety of particle sizes; morphologies; densities and hardness values were mixed with tin and sprayed on CFRPs. The effect of SC properties on tin deposition is discussed and an optimal combination of SC properties for cold spraying of tin is suggested.","PeriodicalId":70745,"journal":{"name":"热喷涂技术","volume":"43 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-05-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75566092","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
