As-atomized and as-heat treated powders were cold sprayed with both nitrogen and helium gasses. Cold spray of high strength materials is still challenging due to their resistance to particle deformation affecting the resulting deposit properties. Powder heat treatment to modify its deformation behavior has recently been developed for aluminum alloy powders; however; there is no literature reported for Inconel 718 powders. The microstructural evolution of the powder induced by the heat treatment was studied and correlated with their deformation behavior during the cold spray deposition. Deposits sprayed with heat-treated powders at 800 and 900 °C and nitrogen showed less particle deformation and higher porosity as compare to as-atomized deposit associated to the presence of delta phase in the powders precipitated by the heat treatment. In contrast; deposits sprayed with helium using both powder conditions; as-atomized and as heat-treated powders; showed high particle deformation and low porosity indicating that the type of gas has a greater effect on the particle deformation than the delta phase precipitated in the heat-treated powders. These results contribute to understanding the role of powder microstructure evolution induced by heat treatment on the cold spray deposits properties.","PeriodicalId":70745,"journal":{"name":"热喷涂技术","volume":"71 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-05-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85738757","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To develop the γ/γ' microstructure that imparts superior thermomechanical and creep properties; Nibase superalloys usually require three distinct heat treatments: first a solution heat treatment; followed by primary aging; and finally secondary aging. To achieve oxidation resistance; MCrAlY coatings are applied on the superalloy components as either environmental coatings or bond coats for thermal barrier coatings. In this study; the effects of different processing sequences on MCrAlY coating characteristics and short-term isothermal oxidation performance were investigated. Specifically; cold spray deposition of NiCoCrAlTaY coatings was carried out on single-crystal Ni-base superalloy substrates that underwent various degrees of the full heat treatments prior to being coated. The remaining required heat treatments for the superalloy substrates were then performed on the coated samples after the cold spray deposition. The microstructures of the CMSX-4 substrates and NiCoCrAlTaY coatings were characterized after each heat treatment. Isothermal oxidation performance of the coated samples prepared using different sequences was evaluated at 1100°C for 2 hours. The results suggested a promising procedure of performing only solution heat treatment on the superalloy substrate before coating deposition and then primary aging and secondary aging on the coated samples. This processing sequence could potentially improve the oxidation performance of MCrAlY coatings; as the aging processes can be used to effectively homogenize coating microstructure and promote a thin thermally grown oxide (TGO) scale prior to actual isothermal oxidation.","PeriodicalId":70745,"journal":{"name":"热喷涂技术","volume":"56 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-05-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85805455","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Increasing wear resistance is especially important in areas of industry where titanium alloys are used, such as aviation and cosmonautics, because the wear resistance of titanium alloys is often weak. One way to increase the wear resistance is to deposit or form a cermet with a titanium matrix (TMC) on the surface of the part. The present study deals with the fabrication and characterization of TMC based on B4C. TMC with B4C was formed by cofeeding Ti6Al4V and B4C powder into a melting pool. It has been found that the deposited, relatively thick layers have homogeneously dispersed B4C grains in the matrix. The deposits are metallurgically connected to the substrate - Ti6Al4V. The TMCs were investigated in terms of microstructure and chemical composition. Wear resistance was determined using the linear pin test.","PeriodicalId":70745,"journal":{"name":"热喷涂技术","volume":"40 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-05-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87754114","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For ceramic materials; such low temperature-high velocity kinetic process is still questionable but could have interesting advantages. In the CERASOL project (ANR-19-CE08-0009); the nature and the architecture of porous ceramic powders involving agglomerated sub-micrometric grains are investigated. To that purpose; three oxide ceramics powders (alumina; zirconia and yttria) have been prepared for cold spray. These powders were analyzed in order to assess their architecture (composition; particle size; porosity; density; crystallite sizes…). Preliminary cold spray experiments were carried out implementing velocities measurements for various stand-off distances and spraying of coupons with line experiments. The characteristics of the deposited layers have been examined by SEM and XRD in order to discuss the role of the powder architecture on the impact behavior of the nanostructured agglomerated particles. The role of the gas stream that affects the kinetic and the trajectory of the particles are also discussed.","PeriodicalId":70745,"journal":{"name":"热喷涂技术","volume":"37 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-05-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84385502","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For more details; please refer to the source [1]. Numerous obstacles are still to be resolved before power sources based on nuclear fusion could be employed. One of the major challenges are the materials used for construction of the main reactor vessels. In tokamaks; torus-shaped fusion facilities confining the hot plasma by strong magnetic fields; the innermost chambers are to be coated with dense coatings of W-based alloys. So far; the attempts for such coatings formation by other methods failed due to oxidation; high porosity; insufficient adhesion; high specific surface; or even insufficient thickness below 10 μm. Cold spraying seems a promising technology for the task. Here we demonstrate a successful fabrication of thick W; W-Cr and W-Cr-Ti coatings prepared without oxidation of the metals. For the first time in history; a deposition of 80 μm-thick coating of pure W was achieved.","PeriodicalId":70745,"journal":{"name":"热喷涂技术","volume":"20 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-12-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83587757","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For example, the hardness of the coatings is lower than that of sintered material for the incompleted cohesiveness. An yttrium aluminum garnet (YAG) laser was used during HVOF spraying to improve the properties of the applied coating. Several carbide powders were used as thermal spray materials, and stainless steel (SUS304) was used as substrate. Coatings were sprayed by hybrid spraying method, which was combined HVOF spraying with YAG laser. The hardness of coatings sprayed by hybrid spraying was higher, and the weight loss in a blast-erosion test was smaller than that of coatings applied by HVOF spraying only. The particles deposited in the coatings obtained by hybrid spraying were very fine. Laser irradiation to the HVOF flame improve the adhesion strength between particles and the deposition of fine carbide particles in the coating. It was considered that mechanism of coating strengthening in hybrid spraying was resulted from strengthening of cohesiveness by heating effect and decreasing of porosity by flattening effect according to observation results of Ni splats sprayed by hybrid spraying method.","PeriodicalId":70745,"journal":{"name":"热喷涂技术","volume":"9 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-05-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75233890","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Most feedstock powders can be processed successfully with different spraying guns but optimized parameters for high quality coating production cannot be transferred directly. Besides substrate temperature only particle velocity and temperature inflight and at impact on the substrate determine the resultant coating properties. Two typical HVOF powders, WC/Co 88/12 and Cr3C2/Ni20Cr 75/25, are sprayed using the kerosene fuel system GTV K2 and particle parameters are recorded just prior to impact on the substrate with the passive diagnostic tool Spray Watch. Detailed correlation of particle parameters and the coating properties porosity and micro hardness as well as deposition efficiency is worked out in order to deduce particle parameter ranges providing coatings with defined optimum properties. The transferability to another kerosene fuel HVOF spraying gun, Tafa JP5000, is tested. It is also shown that effects like wear of the nozzle can be detected by use of the Spray Watch. The composition and morphology of various Ni/Al2O3 steam reforming catalysts, prepared by plasma spraying of precursor nickel suspensions, are studied in this work. As Ni/γ-Al2O3 is a well known reforming catalyst it was decided to study the deposition of a particular catalytic formulation on a metallic substrate. The purpose of this study was to find the means of building 2D monolithic catalysts by plasma deposition. Since 2D monolithic catalysts are non-porous, their specific areas available for hosting the catalytic reactions are low. Thus, It is essential to have very good dispersion of the active catalytic sites. Such dispersion is only possible only if the deposit can take place at the nanometer scale. The suspension plasma spraying is assessed for its ability to produce such structures. This method permits the formation of nanocrystalline structures within a few seconds. The main difficulty is the control of the various spraying parameters in order to obtain satisfactory deposition. The Ni/γ-Al2O3 catalysts so obtained are characterized by scanning electron microscopy, field electron microscopy and X-Ray diffraction.","PeriodicalId":70745,"journal":{"name":"热喷涂技术","volume":"28 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-05-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"72931406","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Direct fabrication technologies would have an impact on many industries because of the potential to quickly manufacture complex parts or additive features with minimal waste. However, currently used high temperature spray technologies (Lasform, thermal spray methods) involve melting and solidification. Each new layer starts out molten, then solidifies, and must eventually cool to room temperature. This report presents results of feasibility tests for development of a new method of direct fabrication of Ti alloy parts at near-net shapes (nns) using the Cold Spray process (CSP). Several Ti-6Al-4V powders including gas atomized, plasma atomized, and hydride dehydride were tested in these experiments. Feedstock powders were characterized for particle size distribution, morphology, chemical composition, hardness, and deposition efficiency. Coatings in thicknesses of 2 mm were sprayed for evaluation of microstructure, hardness, and porosity. Thick rectangular prisms (10 mm) were sprayed for machining tensile specimens. The material properties of as sprayed and post treated coatings by heat-treating and hot isostatic pressing (HIPing) on material properties was studied. Analysis showed that after HIPing the density of sprayed Ti-6Al-4V coupons is near 100% and material properties met or exceed those of wrought material.","PeriodicalId":70745,"journal":{"name":"热喷涂技术","volume":"26 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-05-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75339441","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The most used coating method is atmospheric plasma spraying. However, the main drawback of this technique is the generation of an amorphous phase and other calcium phosphate phases after the spraying process, which are not present in the feedstock and are not desirable. The use of HVOF as a process for obtaining hydroxyapatite coatings on Ti-6Al-4V was used successfully. With optimised HVOF process parameters, coatings with similar bond strength to plasma sprayed HAp coatings, good microstructure and higher crystallinity degree than atmospheric plasma sprayed ones where hydroxyapatite was the only crystalline phase present were obtained. Coating characteristics were analysed with XRD, EDS, SEM, FTIR which indicated that the coatings had a high degree of crystallinity and good bond strength.
